  • Kurt Cobain Interview - Incl. Rare Footage // Subscribe: goo.gl/Q2kKrD // USE THE TIMESTAMPS IN THE DESCRIPTION BELOW TO JUMP TO SPECIFIC QUESTIONS. One of Kurt Cobain's final interviews before his tragic death, this WatchMojo Presents video From the MUCH Vaults is an incredible look into the man and artist that we present on the day that would have been his 50th birthday. This raw video from 1993 features 6 minutes of very rarely seen footage from the original interview that was not aired on television. Nirvana's legacy still burns bright and their music continues to influence and inspire people to this day. We hope that you enjoy this thoughtful and engaged interview with a man who meant so much to so many people.
    00:07 1) What are your favourite books and have they influenced your songwriting?
    1:50 2) Is it hard write new material in a short timeframe after having had your entire life to the write the material for your first two albums?
    02:39 3) There are a lot of baby references in your songs: wombs, babies’ breath; is this a huge part of your life…?
    04:19 4) Do you think the old saying that you can’t buy happiness is true?
    05:08 5) Now that you’ve had so much success, so quickly and so surprisingly, as well as a baby, your marriage, etc., what excites you now?
    05:49 6) How do you personally cope with having private relationships being scrutinized publicly?
    09:04 7) Is it weird to suddenly have lawyers and people who do that stuff for you?
    10:40 8) Do you think being in the music industry for a long time makes you nutty?
    11:48 9) Have you ever had second thoughts about bringing a child into the world, despite being able to see the world for what it is?
    13:38 10) “Grunge”: where did the term come from?
    17:19 11) One of the interesting things about Nirvana that you don’t talk about much is that you seem very concerned about sexism. How do you make people aware of that problem?
    21:21 12) We’re doing a special on The Replacements, did they have any influence n you on as a songwriter or any of the music you did?
    23:58 13) Did you get to meet anyone that you would consider your musical hero?
    24:40 14) Tell me about the record you’re doing with William Burroughs.
    25:50 15) One of the members of Nirvana said he was perturbed by your mainstream audience and wanted to just make music for your real fans...?

      😢 This woman really got him to open up, by NOT asking mundane, cliched questions and just being herself and made him comfortable to be himself, lots of great insights, and it makes me sad to think of what trajectory 🎵 music is going and how NIRVANA, would have set the bar, of music high, instead of the crap that passes for music currently, I have listened to this over and over, when I miss Kurt, and what would have been😢😢😢

      @@davidwong656 I don't see what she said as insults, but the ability to question him to his face about certain aspects of his personality. I don't know what Kurt's personality "profile" was or how much I even believe in all that shit, but I'm an INTJ and I'm guessing he's somewhere in that ballpark because he shared a lot of those traits where he didn't seem to take critique offensively, but rather, he would actually just consider things being said in critiques and wasn't dismissive of other viewpoints or concerns outside of his own. If someone says, "here is why you're wrong about this thing you did," he didn't get defensive but would instead question himself with the information provided, "was I actually wrong?"
      This was the antithesis of the rock star persona he could've had where he could've constantly deemed his own worldview to be correct and anyone else questioning that is just some nerdy music journalist that doesn't understand shit or whatever defense rock stars generally have about being criticized.
      You can tell he's just some average dude and he finds it odd that he's famous or how people place him on some sort of pedestal but he's learning to cope with that new life, "Oh, I guess I have a team of lawyers now." It's probably why he was welcoming in this interview, you could tell she was from the same underground scene he was comfortable in - her references were not generic mainstream, "so tell me about your experience with Madonna," bullshit. She just treated him like one of her underground music scene peers and he seems really comfortable with it - she treated him like an old friend that just happened to be "that famous Kurt Cobain guy," but didn't see the glitz and glamor of it, it didn't matter to her. If you've ever had friends become famous for something, you know how odd that is to see people worship them when you know they're just some fellow human.

    So devastating to learn that “Perfume” is Kurt’s favorite book and that he says he relates to it. For those who haven’t read it - Jean Baptist (the main character) is someone who feels no connection to other humans and is totally alienated from society. Scent is a metaphor for soul in the book… and Jean Baptist doesn’t have a scent - he wants to borrow from other people in order to create his own “scent” (aka: essence / soul / being) - he wants to finally fit in and belong. In the end he creates the perfect scent which is so beautiful and charismatic that everyone who smells it instantly falls in love with Jean. Jean realizes right away that he feels no fulfillment from this newfound love and adoration because it is totally fake - they don’t love him they love the perfume. Feeling hopeless and alone, he douses himself in an entire bottle of the hypnotic perfume and a crowd of people become so crazed with desire when they smell Jean that they rush towards him and devour him whole. Their (fake) love for him is what kills him in the end … and Jean is finally free from the loneliness and alienation that plagued him since his birth.
    Damn…. If the perfume is “fame” then this is basically Kurt’s life story too. A true gentle genius gone too soon. 😢💔

    • @lannarox123
      @lannarox123 Před 3 lety +64

      Boys McMichael You are wrong. That’s what we were told but there is overwhelming evidence that he was murdered. Watch “Soaked In Bleach” and “Kurt & Courtney,” and do a lot of research before you speak about his death. He wasn’t suicidal. Courtney was the only one who said he was suicidal around the time Kurt died. It wouldn’t have even been possible for him to have shot up with the amount of black tar heroin found in his system. With that amount of heroin in his system, he wouldn’t have been able to pick up the gun. He had 3X the lethal dose of heroin, for the biggest heroin user in the world, in his system. What person OD’s and shoots himself after? He loved heroin more than anything. Plus, those last four lines of the suicide note matched letters from a practice sheet found in Courtney’s backpack, which she left at her lawyers house around the time Kurt was murdered. She never picked up the backpack. Plus, how was their no useable fingerprints on the gun or even on the shotgun shells inside the gun? It’s clear that whoever killed him wiped off all the prints off the gun and the bullets and the pen found stabbed through the “suicide” note. Plus, handwriting experts determined the only part of the “suicide” note that was not written by Kurt, was the last four lines of the note. They also determined it was written at a separate time. They used the most well-respected and experienced professionals to help them determine that his suicide looked stage and he was probably murdered. Many experts feel he was murdered. Plus, everyone else in his life said how optimistic and happy he was around the time of his death. They guy who found him said his hair looked combed. His hair was combed, so anyone looking through those glass doors could see who he was. Courtney was the one who called someone to fix the lights outside the greenhouse that Kurt’s body was in. That electrician was the one who found his body. The amount of incriminating statements that PI Tom Grant recorded, makes Courtney and others, like Dylan Carlson, look so guilty.

    • @henrym8429
      @henrym8429 Před 3 lety +4

      LJR 87 you did your research, and I’m not gonna waste my time doing mine, but I looked one the internet briefly, and there is still lots of evidence that Kurt committed suicide. Also, if he didn’t shoot himself, he also could have had an overdose from the heroine

    • @lannarox123
      @lannarox123 Před 3 lety +37

      Boys McMichael You’re entitled to your opinion, but true Nirvana fans like me, who’ve done extensive research into Kurt’s death, know that he was murdered. Just watch, listen and read everything you can (documentaries, books, movies, tv shows, audio clips, CZcams videos, etc.) before you come at me saying he killed himself. Do you know Kurt had 3 times the lethal dose of heroin for the biggest heroin user that ever existed in his system? He wouldn’t have been able to inject himself with that much black tar heroin because of how the drugs effects the body? There was no water found next to the body, which you need in order to use black tar heroin. The main detective on the case was friends with Courtney and was fired for police corruption shortly after working on Kurt’s death case. There’s a lot more evidence he was murdered than that. Believe me. Even if he would’ve been able to inject himself with that amount of heroin, the heroin would’ve incapacitated him almost instantly and he wouldn’t have been able to pick up the shotgun after injecting himself with that amount of black tar heroin. He also wouldn’t have been able to take off the tourniquet, roll down his sleeve, put away his heroin kit, and pull the trigger in less than a minute. With that type of heroin in his system. That’s just a small bit of evidence that he was murdered. Do you want to believe he killed himself because you are too lazy to research Kurt, his life, and his death? Or do you just not care enough to do that? You obviously are just an internet troll, who doesn’t care about Kurt. Do you realize that tons of well-respected experts, who each have several decades of experience in their fields, believe Kurt was murdered? One of those experts was a forensic pathologist, named Cyril Wecht, who has done hundreds of celebrity autopsies for over 30 years. Wecht said that in the thousands of death cases he has seen, he has never seen a case where someone was able to OD on heroin (especially that much heroin), and still be able to pick up a gun and shoot themselves immediately afterwards. No one has been able to find any suicide case like Kurt’s because it wasn’t a suicide. He couldn’t have even picked up the gun after injecting himself with that much heroin. He wouldn’t have been able to shoot up with the amount of heroin found in his system to begin with, because he would’ve become incapacitated and would’ve passed out before he had time to shoot himself. Kurt couldn’t have shot himself because heroin would have immediately incapacitated him in less than a minute after he shot up with heroin. Because heroin would have immediately incapacitated him, there wouldn’t have been time for him to keep injecting himself with more heroin. One shot of heroin would have almost immediately incapacitated him, yet he would have had to inject himself with a huge amount of heroin, several times, in order for Kurt to have had the blood/morphine level he did(1.52 mg per litre). That’s just not possible to do. Heroin turns to morphine in the bloodstream. Kurt would have had to shoot up more than once to have been able to get the amount of heroin found in his system. That’s not possible with heroin because it incapacitates you in less than a minute. If the heroin did not have time to circulate in the blood, which could give a high blood/morphine reading, like Kurt had, he would’ve had to shoot himself in less than a minute after injecting himself several times. That’s not possible. If he did that, the heroin would not have had time to take effect. Why would someone, who loved heroin more than anything, inject themselves with tons of heroin and then shoot themselves, before the heroin had time to take effect? That makes no sense. Plus, you need water with black tar heroin. There was no water at the Kurt Cobain crime scene. So, you are saying, in less than a minute, Kurt had time to remove the tourniquet, roll down his sleeve, put away everything in his heroin kit, inject himself several times with a lethal dose of heroin for the biggest heroin user in existence (not possible), and then shoot himself. That’s not possible. Also, the shotgun shell was found on the opposite side of where it should have been found. It would have been anatomically impossible for Kurt to have shot himself and have the shell pop up where it did, because the corpse grip Kurt had on the shotgun barrel, would have made it anatomically impossible for the gun to be positioned in a place where it would have had to have been positioned, in order for the shotgun shell to land where it was found. It could have ended up where it did only if it bounced off someone, or something, that was high above the ground. The corpse grip happens when someone dies the second they are holding something. The corpse grip occurs at the exact moment of death. You are so wrong if you believe he ended his life. No true fan actually believes that. A true fan does the research. You are not. Go away stupid child.

      @@elizabritton4039 I have more the feeling it was his style. Like skaters normally had at this time, but maybe it is only, because I was a teen when he left the place called earth. At this time a lot where running around like that. He was in the end of his twenties, so why he should look like a broker or something. A little bit erlier, some bunks where running around and so on. About the other stuff, he was an artist, like I am, and unfortunately we experience the world in anotherway than most do. People hardly understand the way we live and because of that we are weirdos or even crazy. That is also the case that many artists have troubles with drugs and so on. For some resons, I am a very strong woman and I am glad for it, but strong once are very rare and unfortunately Kurt seemed to be alone in some way. I always liked him and today with this Interview, many things came back from those days. People like him are tolarating others how they are and how they live, unfortunately many times, we don't get it back. I think, some of them would like to do, what we do, but are unable to do it in the same way and that is when people are getting jallous and unkind. And instad of, at least trying to find out why they feel in the way they do, they are unkind to others. I hope you don't get me wrong here, a lot is in a general way here. I am only sick about it, that people look at the cloth of somebodey (I am 40, wear jeans, but really "bunk once"), four big rings, eybrow piercing and yes I still love hard rock and metal music and because I am not running around like other women in the same age I get also juged emidiately. And it happens the same, when I start to talk, they get surprised what I did and how smart I am. Even if I can not help Kurt anymore I had to write what just came into my mind. I hope it is readable, because my native language is German and I am better in understanding and talking in the English language than in writing. Have a nice day. ;-)

    Beautiful interview. Nirvana and the grunge scene grew around me while I was in my early to mid-20s. When Kurt shared some of his creative plans for the band's music and his own work, it was-as if he held some hope in that moment. One of a kind talent & human.
