The audience members had no clue how historic this concert would turn out to be.
Could you imagine being able to say you were there?!
Hell I wish I was and I wasn’t even born yet
I agree
Not true. People knew. We all knew.
Most Nirvana fans knew it was a special performance once it aired. We just had no idea how iconic it would become in representing the music of a decade. The last notes of "Where Did You Sleep..." still send chills up my back every time I hear it.
You DEFINITELY have to appreciate Dave’s style of “quiet drumming” during this whole unplugged set.
Compared to his normal Nirvana style of just going absolutely apeshit he is remarkably restrained here.
@@miikkalehtonen3389 … I just appreciated his restraint here. To me, from a technical standpoint, it looks rather difficult to play that “low” but also make it sound amazing at the same time. I’ve just always thought about Dave’s style of playing ever since I watched this in 1993 on MTV for some reason?!?!
Bcoz dave know unplugged version of drumming need to be low
Yess
Supposedly Kurt almost went drumless because initially Dave was having a hard time quiet drumming.
30 years he left us today
thank you Kurt 🕊️
22 hrs ago. Was it really? Just finished Dave’s autobiography. A brilliant read. He keeps talking about Kurt to a minimum I think. A one of a kind human being
Thank you Kurt ❤
Always in our heart shaped boxes ❤️
Just love❤❤❤❤❤
Rest in peace kurt
He had the perfect blend: musical genius, androgynous beauty, masculine charm and strength, feminine delicacy and the sensitivity of a poet...too much sensitivity to be happy. R.I.P., Kurt. Ciao.
He really seemed like the coolest guy and his music doesn’t feel old. I’m just discovering him now and I wish he’s still alive! However, he did have lots of physical and mental health issues that tormented him daily. Being a drug addict doesn’t help… I heard somewhere that he wasn’t feeling well the day of this performance and threw up right before performing. It’s incredible that he can still sing like that when he’s not feeling well!
Androgynous? The man had a beard lol.
Okay nobody asked you to start slobbering up Kurt okay? He’s made plenty of songs about rape

The greatest unplugged performance ever. No one’s ever been able to top this one. There’s been close ones but none who match it. Decades later and people still discover this performance, listen to it, come back to it. It will forever be cemented as the best MTV unplugged performance ever.
I think I prefer Alice In Chains performance, in retrospect both have a very haunting feeling because of each of the frontman’s deaths. Both men seem like their playing at their own funeral.
AIC is the best mtv unplugged. Nirvana was definitely 2nd or 3rd. Thank goodness we have these before they all left us

How about Eric Clapton's? Man was really great as well! His unplugged version of Layla is especially top notch imo.

Of all of the songs Nirvana has performed, my favorites are the acoustic performances. I am so glad that there is an unplugged. It is great to see a non wild performance with Dave playing a soft drum. Just to hear Kurt's mild voice is amazing. I love this live performance.
Haven't Kurt started out with an acoustic guitar? He's a good player actually, not much unwanted sounds coming out, very straight forward punk sound and emotional lyricism
Heard that the moment i first listened to Nirvana, on my sis' burned disc in a car, with "best of"
Also agree that the drum sticks add a ton to the show's character
Sad fact, Kurt was planning on pursuing a more acoustic record after In Utero.
That's the reason why he was exploring and mucking around with these more folk sounding performances
Me too. I never liked Nirvana and their vibe was too aggressive for me, so I was SHOCKED(!!!) to see this show and enjoy it so much. He's cute but the music stripped back is so palatable and his voice and guitar unique.
Well it was one of the beauties of nirvana they could go hard or soft and it worked both ways
@@muntmunt3155 That's too bad he decided to commit suicide... but one consolation is even in death he was thoughtful. He wiped the prints from the gun after he shot himself. Look at the facts. 3x the lethal amount of heroin. He didn't die or pass out. He wrote "suicide note" then he had enough function to point a shot gun at his head. I still haven't figured out how he would have reached the trigger, but after all that, he wiped the prints. Clearly a suicide and not a murder.

schmittza yeah man. All three of my girls, 9, 5 and 2 1/2 love nirvana. The 9 yo that got this DVD has been a fan for a year or two now. She loves this show and In Utero. He jaw dropped when she heard Polly on Incesticide. She’s a big fan and it makes me proud. She wants to learn guitar too and picked the mustang. I let her pick a guitar for me I’ve the summer and told her on her birthday that once she learns her first nirvana song all the way through she can have that guitar I let her pick for me. I just love that she loves them like I do and I’m more excited that new generations are finding this music exciting and relevant like I did when it was coming out.

The influence of Blues in Nirvana's music mixed with pop made them the greatest band ever, it's like having John Lee Hookers and the Beatles creating together.
It's crazy that he looks obviously nervous on this stage and yet performs this show dramatically beautiful
Listening to Puddle of Mud really puts into perspective how unique Kurt's voice was. Amazing
For real! I had to come clean my ears out with this after hearing the Puddle of Mudd cover.
puddle of mudd was good but they need to hang it up

30 years today! Thx Kurt! What a show man. You are a Legend!!
This album changed my life.
I was 11.
Had never heard anything like it.
So powerful.
To this day it's still my safe space and my safe zone.
When I need to reset from life or whatever; I just play this and everything else fades and goes away and makes for a fresher more exciting start to everything.
I've also used it throughout my life to decorate special capsules of time like dinners, dates and special encounters with women, party music, meditation sessions and most importantly: solitary and safe moon nights.
Most recently, when my grandfather died a year ago, I was with him the moment he passed.
He had confided in me a year previous to that during a Christmas gathering, that he knew he was going to die soon.
And sure enough, it happened right before my eyes, 11 or so months later.
The doctors told us that there was nothing left for us to do but wait for it to happen.
Had never actually seen a person die before.
But it was only at that moment when I realized that.
After it was all over and done, I came back to this album.
I layed awake at night in the dark with my headphones on.
Replaying "On a Plain" and "Dumb" over and over.
It sure gave me some peace.
There was some sadness that I felt, but more than anything: it was a sense of finality and relief.
It still gets me going after all these years.
I've done a lot of stuff to this album.
But I just have never lost touch with it.
There was a time (many years ago) when I stopped listening to Nirvana.
But I just could never completely sever ties with this record.
I ultimately just came back with my tail between my legs and just embraced Nirvana as hard as I could from that moment on.
To the point where they've almost given me part of my identity.
I'm sure I'll be listening to "Unplugged" when I'm 90 on vinyl and still dig the hell out of it.

My story is similar. My family has also used this album to decorate time and spaces in our lives. Certain memorials, weddings, festivities, rainy days, births, deaths, all of it. If I need that reset, that reminder of my roots and to point myself back in some sort of direction, this is what I put on.❤
In my opinion this has to be one of the best live performances that has ever been recorded. Pure perfection from start to finish. You can hear the pain in his voice and looking back knowing what happened to him it probably was pain. "Where did you sleep last night" and "The man who sold the world" are the only songs that have ever brought me to tears. And not cuz it speaks to a part of me or my life. It's purely his performance that hits me. This audience had no clue what they were witnessing at the time.
Along with Alice in Chains unplugged. Unmatched
also Grohl's sort of comedic attempts to break the awkwardness are also iconic here :D

I love how Krist and Pat just looked so happy to be there with big smiles performing with Kurt! Dave looked content but focused lol.
Trying not to demolish his drumset lmao
This will be one comment in a million, likely to never be noticed.
But I'm going to make it anyway.
I was was born in March 1979. We lost Kurt in 1994 so sadly.
At the time I was in to Bon Jovi, Alice in Chains, Guns and Roses, Metallica, etc.
It wasn't until I met a girl, on a school trip to Washington DC, from Canada.
We really hit it off on the trip. In Fact I was planning on running away from home on the trip because of family problems.
Anyways, we got back from that trip after having a whirlwind romance and were together for about 6 years.
When Kurt left our world it ruined her. I didn't know much about his music, but afterwards started getting into it. At the time the next big thing was NIN and pumpkins and what not.
But now, as a nearly 45 year old man, which still thinks like a 20yo can nearly tear up to any Nirvana song just through his expression.
This may sound bad, and possibly even very wrong, but I think in some small way we can appreciate his music at the same frequency it was written because he is gone.
Every strum from the guitar, every bleeding beautiful tone of his voice, drum beat and thought put into his music is never going to be repeated in my opinion.
The reason I bring this up is because I didn't know Nirvana at the time. The girl I met on the bus to Washington was a huge fan. When Kurt died she made several suicide attempts because she was so enamored by his music. It wasn't until years later that I finally found his resonance. And its unforgettable and more than even that. No words.
Anyways...
Lost but never, not ever... forgotten. RIP Kurt.
I was 15 when he passed, I'm still a Nirvana Fan always will be. Kurt was way before his time. His music will always live on. thank you R.I.P

Totally great effort by Layne staley, he is almost as dead as he could be on that point and yet he showed his vocal supremacy out of all supposedly "grunge" bands. Even kurt said that he wished he could sing like Layne.
@@godofredo0409 I thought Jerry did really good, too. I still think it's so weird that Kurt & Layne died on the same date (different years). Nirvana Unplugged was only a few months before Kurt passed.
Either you haven't heard AiC Unplugged or you know nothing about music
Kurt, humorously: “good evening”
Audience: dead silent
Kurt just had a raspiness to his voice unlike no other.
I am watching Nirvana still and I'll watch them too. Forever.❤
i feel sad sometimes because i'll never get to go to a show like this, it's a shame kurt is gone. but i'm still glad these songs exist everywhere today to be heard, nirvana is an experience that has that go through the lives of many people in the world yet.
These people were so lucky to witness this absolute classic
The whole time pat is smiling and he’s like “wow I’m part of nirvana this is amazing”
He’s the best
He always smiles
pat just be smiling in general
I remember this on the telly when i was little, mad knowing how important this session is now, dont take anything for granted please ❤
I watched this on the floor of my living room as a tween, curled up in blankets...My step dad is shaking his head "The righteous bros" now that's music kid!! Ok... sure now leave me alone... 😂
really amazing kurt was that time i heard after 23 years still the best motivation and energetic voice
I know i'm not the only one missing Kurt and his incredible music in 2021!
yes you are'nt
You aren’t.
Definitely not! Kurt and Nirvana are legends! Gone but never forgotten
we miss Kurt, Layne, Chris, Andy and still the loosers of the grunge era the last rock'n'roll on planet earth!
I tear up watching this every time.
Birds scream at the top of their lungs, in horrified hellish rage, every morning at daybreak to warn us all of the truth, but sadly- we don't speak bird.
-Kurt Cobain
High Flyer source please?
I dont think he said that. That sounds like an im14andthisisdeep post
@@littlenerddosbr4438 it's from his journals
A disturbed mind he was to think this...
He was a bit of a cringelord really, wasn't he? 😅
About to have my yearly ritual of watching this unplugged followed by alice in chains unplugged. Rip to two legends Kurt and Layne. Gone but not forgotten
PEARL ... Forever. ... from Poland 2023/24
I'm profoundly Deaf and i wear a hearing aid, using the speakers 🔊 as vibrations this song feels like I'm closer to heaven...
Thats awesome
That's how it feels to me also.. I go to another place listening to Kurt's music

its amazing how even after so many years, people stilll love kurt and nirvana. We all come back to their music when in need......kurt is forever immortal in time, and his image will forever be that of a 27yr old rock icon, who died at his peak...hes frozen in time❤️
indeed brother!
sad he comitted the unthinkable, but he will forever remain a star in the music/ rock industry
Well said.
That's so true. I'm here crying because I needed it. Soul screams.
This is so good but you must hear “The Wave Acoustic” by SLT 🤘🤘🤘
"I need to be slightly numb in order to regain the enthusiasms I once had as a child." -Kurt Cobain.
❤
it been exsacly 30 years {to the day of wrting this} and it still amazing.
Nirvana: timeless
Audience: wow that's so 90's

Kurt, Dave, Krist, and Pat look like normal dudes to me, but for some reason the crowd just looks like they are stuck in a different era, it's odd.
@@jmtrainz2582 I goddamn agree with you man, never thought about this but yeah, you're right.
@@jmtrainz2582 because it's for mtv dude, they dont want anybody to interrupt them while playing songs
@@raybananacute That didn’t explain why the crowd looks weird.
This needs a blu ray release, uncut and unedited.
they were the best band ever, love their songs
Man this takes me back I remember watching this on MTV
One of the greatest grunge performances in human history.
Agreed bro
Your right, could even go one step further and remove the word 'grunge' from your comment and your point would still stand.
Grunge....you meant all fuckin time
Along with Alice in Chains too
@@frostmafia1380And the Pearl Jam MTV gig
How is it possible to hear better in a live performance than in the studio? amazing
Es Cierto
Gustavo, ¡Sí!
@@gregdabrat Hola
same as Alice in chains mtv unplugged...freakin awesome

Every person there is literally a part of musical history. So cool. You all experienced something never to be duplicated.
I used to listen to Nirvana unplugged on repeat 24/7, i had my first kiss to about a girl
"This is off of our first record. Most people don't own it."
lol sounds like he's starting with "know" but turns it into own. I feel like remember him more clearly saying "know"
after that concert more people owned.
Nevermind sold 30+ million. I don't believe Bleach has eclipsed 2 million.

Take me too....if I could turn back the time !
Favorite song hands down!
?
1:03 Shoutout to that one woman in the audience who said 'good evening' back to Kurt. Hope she's doing well
Their band was so tight, yet so loose and chill. It’s rare that every mistake sounds so intentional and so good.
Unfortunately the band was taking a break. Kurt's addiction to Heroine left him destructive and out of control. The videos he and Courtney Love are painful to watch.
@@deborahscofield6738 everything with Courtney is painful to watch...

I'm so sad Kurt died at such a young age. That voice was haunting and beautiful.
It's the reason he killed himself he contracted bronchitis and couldnt sign anymore extremely tragic
Not true they performed in Italy and recorded You Know You're Right very shortly before his death. He was depressed and a drug addicted mess in a toxic marriage with a nutter
Yeah, but I can see why he said that
Kurt probably would lost his voice, after some time (or maybe just his raspy voice), bc his raspy voice wasn't really healthy
Literally, how good was that?
Who else is like kurt in front of people? 30 years without him 😢 but his legacy is eternal
me
2020 we still remember nirvana
ke onda ke pescado :v :vv: Abso f’kn lutly!! 👍😁
ahhhh yesssssssss

Ahah
Ahah
Can you prove that?
@@Its_aquaz yep hsahjdshah
heard somewhere that
it's the only time he smiled during the entire concert...
Over 25 years later and I still have yet to see a video of Pat playing and he doesn't have a smile on his face. You can tell he's always so happy and grateful to be playing music. 🤘🤘
Lol, watch some Germs videos, he doesn’t look too pleased in lots of them.
I played this cd so much when i was younger it stopped working lol
My favorite Nirvana album. The VHS was sold out everywhere I went - which wasn't far since I was 12 years old. This is why CZcams is the best! "About a Girl" always sounded like an early Beatles song to me
I remember watching this on TV with my Father.
He passed away 17 years ago in October.
Gone but not Forgotten!!
This version lacks a certain autistic "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" that is present in a new version by Puddle of Mud.
The other was 'squeal like a pig' version
You mean the 'Artistic' "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" from our God Wes Scantlin of Puddle of Mudd fame.
150% less Cartman impressions.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEREEE
That's from the stroke version
The best song Kurt ever wrote. His first classic.
Lucky audience experiencing live 🥲❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Growing up as a teen in the 90s, we always longed for the 70's. We had no clue we were experiencing the peak of human evolution.
Rock n Roll!!Never Die!!!
I liked rock & roll in the 60's then my daughter was a singer and guitarist in the 90's. I got to live it all over again. Nirvana is my favorite 90's. That's why at 73 I'm here listening
Now we're in 2020s realizing how screwed we are now
I love how Kris’ bass just melodically plods across the fretboard bringing out little melodies of its own.
Er hat wirklich eine Bewegung mit seiner Musik losgetreten. Crunch Musik hatte nach Nirwana so viele Fans. Von 0 auf 100 sehr großer Erfolg und zu schnell. ❤
Kurt left the audience completely dumbfounded. Rightfully so ❤
Kurt just had a raspiness to his voice unlike no other.
this was horrible
Tiro na mente é show nirvana ...
@@o2xb actually, this entire show was a historic live recording.
Puddle of Mudd disagree
I imagine you are an ignorant in the singing subject. The " rasp " in his voice obviously wasn't natural, it's called vocal drive, do some research. Joe Cocker's rasp was natural, many others, but Kurt did forced some to fit the style or whatever he meant to by that
Kurt's now been dead longer than he was alive and that just makes me sad 😪😪
Holy F***ing Sh1t
Shit, considering he was about twice my age at the time, this REALLY makes me feel old.
Crazy!! I was14 yrs old and ate up all things Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Alice n Chains. Awesome archives we have to play now!
Gone but never to be Forgotten...
@@eray9934 lol my 14 yo was asking me if i knew off nirvana i was like.....?

i really love this song
*Love the crowd clapping and cheering. This is the perfect rendition of this song*
Who's here after Puddle of Mudd singer covered this song to hear how this song supposed to be sang correctly live

Yupppp
....me...?
I mean... I got as far as ALMOST the end of the first hook. Ran screaming into the fxcking night STRAIGHT HERE
lol, it sounds almost the same :) Kurt wasn't in tone everytime.. this song is very hard and Puddle of Mud did good job... everybody just look at singer's funny face and actually don't know anything about singing
The 90s ❤❤❤
"This is off our first record, most people don't own it" for anyone blaming Nirvana to be a successful artist. If you sell something of value, there's nothing wrong in pitching your product.
Seeing a notification of this give me hopes to live
Yeah same feelings here😄
& to Die..
Wow ♥️
Your inner struggle with life can't be that tough then..
I've been listening to Nirvana since I was a young girl. I grew up to be 29 yo in August now. And I will keep growing old and he'll be forever young. What a strange feeling, emotional yet hard to describe. Feeling nostalgic...
I just had that same conversation today with one of my friends. It's a weird feeling to be older than Kurt and Jimi Hendrix.
I am 39 and remember deeply when he decided to go to the next world in my Junior year of highschool, he will forever be young
Same... I’m 43 now. I feel it just the same as I did at 16yrs old. Very strange feeling like no time has passed but decades have.
Same
Ugh, this comment is so perfect, and pierced me right in the heart.
i was 17 when this happend.... miss those days everyday
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Nirvana Unplugged
Kurt's voice is an instrument in and of itself
Amazing - is like a reverberation which I don’t think I’ve noticed before.
