    24K Gold Plating onto beautiful hand-made jewelry. One of the pendants is made of Brass, another of Sterling Silver, and one made of PMC (Precious Metal Clay) Silver. The entire process takes only about 10 minutes, and during this time about 20 micro-inches (.5 micron) of 24k gold is applied evenly to all the pieces at once. The JewelMaster was designed to plate up to about 12 square inches at once, so that multiple pieces can be plated at a time. To achieve thicker plating, you will need to plate for longer periods. The gold solution that comes with the kit has 2.5 grams of "fine gold", and will plate about 1,200 square inches to a typical gold plating thickness.
    *Artwork being plated was designed by Patricia Gambit ~ An artist that designs and hand fabricates one-of-a-kind jewelry using Jewelers Brass, Sterling Silver and Fine Silver Clay.*

    I got this kit about one month ago. I haven't tried it yet, but I can say just by looking at the instructions manual that if you are just starting this is the kit you want to get. Very clear explanation and is just plug and play. I will try it in a couple of weeks with some jewelry. 👍

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 8 lety +9

      +Selfmade Typically solutions that are yellow or clear produce a "soft" gold finish. Purple solutions like ours are a "hardened" 24K gold. Hardened gold solutions, like the one shown in this video, produce a much more desirable finish for Jewelry (and other decorative items) as it is shinier and also more durable.

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 5 lety +2

      Gold plating does not give off much of an odor, if any. Most people do not smell it however some with a sensitive nose can.
      To dispose of the chemicals you would need to find a local waste disposal service. Many areas allow you to take it to the landfill, where they have a hazardous waste disposal area. If that's not an option, you will need to contact a private local waste disposal company and inquire about picking up liquid waste. Many people get large containers (20gallon, 50 gallon, etc.) and collect it for years and then pay a 1 time disposal fee (usually $100-$200 or so). Zoning will depend on your area, you would need to contact your local agencies to find that out.

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 8 lety

      +Antonio DaLomba Jr Thank you Antonio, we're happy to hear that. Assuming the area of that pendant is about 2 square inches you could plate around 125 to 150 of them to a "jewelry grade thickness" of 20 micro-inches. Our "24K Bright Gold Solution" contains 2.8g fine-gold and costs $325.00 per bottle. If you used every milligram of gold in the solution you could plate about 400 square inches of area (200 of the pendants) to a 20 micro-inch thickness, however most people replace the solution when the gold content gets low as the deposition rate slows down quite a bit. The cost of the actual gold plating is quite minimal. The ability to gold plate items, the time involved, and the inherent value of turning something gold is what most people are charging for when they price a job or item. Let us know if you have any more questions or shoot us an e-mail if you would like to order.

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 6 lety

      As long as the part is free of debris - polishing compound, dirt, dust, etc., that is all that matters. Improving the "quality" of the finish is mostly done in the prep (polishing). You want to get the item to the finish you desire BEFORE plating it, not after.

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 8 lety

      It purely depends upon the piece of jewelry. The condition, size and type of item makes a huge difference in how long it takes to plate. Most of the cost comes from your time, not the actual gold content used. For instance, you could plate a ring with a super thick layer and the gold cost may only be a dollar or two. A chain necklace in not-so-great condition may take you a couple of hours to polish, prepare and plate. To give you an idea though, we typically charge about $200-$300 to plate a watch and we also have a $150 minimum plating charge no matter what the item is.

    how long does the gold plating last before it wears off from the actual metal?

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 4 lety +31

      This completely depends on 2 main factors; 1) how thick the gold is plated. 2) How it is handled.
      If you plate the item with a very thick plate, say "Vermeil" (Pronounced Ver-May and is 2.5 microns thickness), it could last a lifetime. If its earrings it will be handled less than a ring, etc. Typically gold plating gets a bad reputation because many jewelers apply the gold way too thin. When we plate an item, we put on atleast 1 micron or more and it lasts many years in most cases.

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 7 lety +1

      It would depend on what the alloy is. Stainless steel does require a "flash plate", for this we normally recommend Wood's Nickel Strike. Most copper alloys don't require any special activation but some applications do use a nickel under plate on copper, brass, or bronze. Our technical staff can advise on the requirements for various alloys.

It changes the feel of course, becauce hard gel doesn't feel like metal but it works GREAT as a sealer!! It's also safe for the skin after you cure it, it' super clear and shiny AND it can fill in and hide some scratches etc. You just got to be careful to keep it thunk so that you don't lose sharp edges and a clean look ❤

    Can you do this same process with plating silver? TY

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 8 lety +3

      Yes, you can plate onto silver with gold plating solution and with silver plating solution onto the same type of items you can gold plate. The process is the same to achieve a silver plate and it is to achieve a gold plate, each solution just requires a slightly different voltage setting which is indicated on the bottles and instructions included with purchase. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hi, I have concerns that although this looks to be an excellent home gold plating kit it may only flash plate.
    I need to be sure this will plate 3 microns without any problems, what do you think?

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 5 lety +3

      This kit can plate to virtually any thickness. Flash plating is 0-7 microinches or less. This hard gold shown in the video is capable of plating up to 120 microinches (3 microns) in one contiguous layer, however that is the absolute maximum. Typically, to go this thick, it would be done in 2 separate "layers". This means you would plate it once for 1.5 microns, then again for another 1.5 microns. The kit is not the limiting factor in thickness, the solution is. Hardened gold solutions are more limited in thickness, in one layer. However, with a Pure Gold, you can plate virtually to any thickness. The reason people dont use a Pure Gold for jewelry is it is not hardened and has no brighteners. If you do wish to achieve 3 microns, keep in mind you will need to track your gold use and maintain your bath. 3 microns is VERY thick for a hard gold and most do not plate that thick. We can help you with gold usage and how to replenish the bath.

      Hi
      Thanks for your reply.
      Would there be more chance peeling given the hard gold solution needs two plates to achieve 3 microns thickness?
      What if I used the pure gold solution first and then the hard gold to obtain a durable finish on my jewellery? Do you supply full detailed notes re pros and cons and after sales support with this kit?

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 5 lety +4

      Betty, rather you did it in 2 layers or 1 contiguous layer there would be no difference in adhesion. You would have zero chance of "peeling" if the initial layer is applied correctly. You could do your idea with the pure gold capped with hard gold, however I believe this is not as good of an idea as plating with hard-gold throughout. We supply a comprehensive users guide, these videos, and all the after sales support you need. You can e-mail or call any time with questions and we have experienced tech's ready to help.

      How long the piece will stay gold plated depends on how thick you plate the gold and how it is taken care of. If the item is plated with 1-2 microns (achieved in 5-10 minutes) it could last a lifetime if taken care of properly. If it is plated for only 15-30 seconds it could wear off in a week.

      In order for electroplating to work, you must have a conductive surface. We aren't aware of any wax pieces with conductive surfaces, but wouldn't go as far to say it doesn't exist.

      Yes, you can gold plate copper. Not sure about covering the stone. You mean to protect it right?, not trying to plate it??? Haha. I have a nice tensor ring I bought that is plated copper. Even the copper beads on it are plated. Pretty cool stuff. I would love to make a nice big bracelet of copper and plate it.

    If a sterling silver necklace plated with gold will it tarnished if you shower with it and exercise with it ??

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 7 lety +2

      Gold plating is porous. So if the gold is not applied thick enough, the silver can corrode underneath the gold. The way this is dealt with is to either apply the gold quite thick or to apply a "diffusion barrier" between the substrate and the gold - this is typically done with something like nickel or rhodium. If you have done one of these two things, the silver should not corrode and the gold certainly will not.

    What is the max micro-inches that it will do?

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 8 lety +2

      +Joe Daddy You can plate to virtually any thickness if properly done in layers. However, the thickest you can feasibly plate with a hardened gold in one layer is approximately 80 micro-inches. After ~80 micro-inches the finish will start to appear "hazy", and begins to lose its luster.

    does the gold wear off eventually?

    • @GoldPlatingServices
      @GoldPlatingServices  Před 6 lety +9

      Eventually yes, any plating has the potential to wear off no matter what metal it is or how thick it is plated. However, the thicker you plate it the more wear it will withstand. Also, this is a hardened 24K gold which makes it multiple times more wear-resistant than a "soft" gold. It is still a 99.97%+ gold deposit, the hardeners just disrupt the lattice formation of the gold ions as they deposit. This disruption strengthens the structure of the formation - kind of like building a brick wall instead of trying to build a wall with varying shaped boulders. When a hard gold is applied to a reasonable thickness it should last many years, especially if taken care of.
