Ingredients you'll need:
Bread:
1.25 cups (295ml water
1 tablespoon instant yeast (10g)
3 1/2 (500g) cups ap flour
1 tablespoon sugar (13g)
2 teaspoons salt (5g)
2 tbsp lard or shortening (30g)
Parmegiano reggiano for topping
Sauce:
1 can (how many oz?) crushed tomatoes
5 cloves garlic
1/2 cup olive oil
4 oz 120g pancetta or bacon
Handful of basil
Plus extra fresh basil to finish
Meatballs:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
2 eggs
1/3 cup 12g grated parmigiano reggiano
1 teaspoon 2g fennel seeds, toasted
1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
4 slices finely chopped prosciutto
3/4 cup 42g panko bread crumbs

I dont understand your hype. How much did it cost in time and money to make his version vs. The 5 bucks and 4 min subway had to pump there's out? Hey all, so my wife decided to make this and they are amazing! We had to sub out a few things because of what we had on hand though. First we used 1lb of store bought Chuck roast subbed the prosciutto for 4 strips of bacon and followed the rest of the recipe and got 14 (large-ish) meatballs. For the sauce we used the recommended amout of bacon and it ended up being a little too oily (probably because of the bacon in the meatballs) but to help thicken it up added a small can of tomatoe sauce. We also subbed the canned diced tomatoes for ones with green hatch chilies... we decided to do this after having a fire house meatball sub and honestly this version was so much better then anything either of us have had in the past. Highly recommend

Tried just the bread part becuase I'm not a big meatball sub fan. I'm more of a chicken, Bacon, and ranch kinda guy. Recipe is fantastic! I made it twice. Second time I added 4 TBSP of sugar instead of 1. This definitely gave the bread more of the subway taste twist I was looking for. Thanks again Joshua Weissman! You are my go too person for home recipes!

I always hated going to subway on my limited 30 min lunch cause the person ahead of me would either not know what they want or they would get a sub and want every single vegetable on it. First off does that even taste good and 2nd the thing can’t close and be cut properly and I have seen people ask the sandwich artist make it again cause it got too messy. I also hate when they are getting more than one cause they are getting one for themselves and someone else and the pull out “the list”, a very detailed list of everything they wanted and the order it must go in. Also when the person working has to make several peoples order behind you to minimize throwing out gloves when all you want to do is pay and get eating lunch. Basically, the entitlement of subway customers turned me off going there some time ago.

This might sound crazy, but subway in India is actually amazing, when I went there last year and ordered a meatball sub, they call it kofta, it came all crispy, cheesy, spicy, tasty and satisfying. Waay better than what you get abroad. Same goes for Domino's.

I do too. The recipes are still great, even in his new videos. It's because it's a pretty easy set up, no fryers is I think the big one, so everything is a lot easier to clean up and keep fresh when you don't have to deal with fry oil.

So my boyfriend and I made this tonight! Was super delicious & we would do it again.
A few things we did mess up on:
1) we made the meat balls too big
2) we used whole tomatoes, instead of canned crushed tomatoes
3) too much oil accumulated from pancetta

It's so weird to see the difference in quality from fastfood companies in the US compared to the Netherlands. Subway is actually really decent here, the bread is tasty and crisp, people handle the food with care and they have some excellent subs here. Looking at this video's sub almost made me hurl it back at the guy who sold it to you, at the thought of having to eat that compared to what we get here.
I mean, sure it's still fastfood so it's definitely not anywhere near the standards you present us with, but looking at all these videos you've shared with us really makes me feel grateful that I don't live in the US for fastfood. XD

Yeah Canadian Subway is really damn good for fast food. Hell I'd even take Subway over some non-fast food restaurants. I remember talking to some Americans once and having them universally agree that Subway was trash and I couldn't figure out why until I saw what American Subway was actually like. Makes me really grateful for the half decent quality we get out of our Subways even if it means we miss out on some fast food restaurants/menu items that I'd like to try (In n Out, McRib, etc.).
This. Same thing in Germany actually, even stuff like McDonalds is usually decent enough to eat and doesnt look anywhere near as dreadful as the stuff Josh keeps dragging in.
