Why is everyone so obsessed with autotune, like it gives more credence to talented artists from the past? There are plenty of talented singers around now, or doesn't anyone care to check?
@@Hexon66 My kids tell me that they wish they had been back in my era because we had all the good music. My response is that we had plenty of crap stuff back then as well, but what they hear from back then is the stuff that was good enough to survive 40-50 years. But I do think autotune has lead to a certain amount of laziness in modern performers. I think a lot would struggle to perform and sound good in a live environment such as that without any aids such as autotune. That doesn't mean there still isn't great talent though.
Understand what you're saying, and I love their harmonies. But you tell you the truth, I was in a small singing group in high school a million years ago and we did the same thing without any instruments at all. Every single time we were on key at the end of the song. And we were just teenagers. None of us were music majors. Some people have an ear for music and some don't. We're all different.
Just three brothers singing and playing acoustic guitar. Unlike anything we have ever seen, pure magic. Impromptu, they sound as good as they did in the studio.
Robin was always my favorite voice. And you’re right, he always does sound like he is on his last leg. That’s why he sounded so great with songs like I started a joke and I just got to get a message to you.
One of the reasons Robin's voice was un- replicable is because he had a natural very fast and narrow vibrato. Most vibratos that people teach their vocal chords to do are much wider and slower because that's much easier to accomplish. A wider vibrato goes above and below the note by a fair amount, while the narrow vibrato that Robin had stays close to right on the note. Very unique quality to his voice. Beautiful!
There is no one or group that comes close in this day and time to The Brothers Gibb. Robin's voice shines so strong in this version that as much as I love Barry's voice, Robin is every bit his equal.
That voice so eloquent, so vulnerable and has such a unique vibratto, unlike any other singer i have heard. Barry's voice is stunning, too, but it is a bit different but that is why they compliment each other so well.
Their harmonies are in perfect sinc. I love the days where music didn’t need auto tune or a laundry list of producers to make something so timeless. Just talent and the creative know how to put words into song. No Twitter clap backs needed. No face tats and Instagram followers wanted. Can’t imagine a world without this kind of purity.
Great selection, Craig! My emotions are mixed seeing the brothers so alive and well killing this song on a moments notice. Nothing lasts forever - grasp it while you can. The Bee Gees were the gold standard.
The Bee Gees were such a talented group. What a great version. Harri you picked a winner.. Wonderful reaction Harri. So very unique. Great request Craig
Acoustic. The best way to listen to the most beautifully blended chorus of genetics to be placed on vinyl. Heavenly. Shades of an irreplaceable era in time. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Craig. Lovely song. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Loved Robin's voice.. it was just amazing. And the harmonies..you can't get better than sibling harmony.. You just can't.. look at all the groups.. over the year with sibling harmony.... I've know in my life time.. Osmonds, Jacksons Bee Gees .... on and on
Love the Bee Gees. Every song a hit. Their harmonies are just perfect. Massachusetts reminds me of the beautiful Cape Cod coastline. Massachusetts was named for an Algonquian Indian word that means "a big hill place." RIP Maurice, Robin and Andy. xxx
They were absolutely incredible together, Barry with his falsetto also has a unique voice. This song was taking me down memory lane. I had an old family friend that going back to the 1940's. He used to play with My Mum's Sister back then when they were kids. They didn't care about the eyebrows they raised because She had mainly European Decent and He was Aboriginal. All they saw when looking at each other was Their Friend. His Youngest Daughter and I have been Close Friends since we were teenagers in the 90's. I didn't have a Best Friend, I had 3 Close ones. Anyway when I was in my 20s another one of those Close Friends and I were staying at their house 🏡. We were getting ready to go to a party across the street. I was ready early so I went to hang out with him and his wife while I waited. He got out his guitar then started singing this song and I started harmonising with him. When we were ready to leave, he was clearly disappointed. From then on we started performing together at parties. It was so sad when he developed Alzheimers and couldn't Perform anymore. About a year ago he passed away in his sleep. As a side note I have a Brother-in-law in Redcliffe just outside Brissie (Brisbane) who lived around the block from The Bee Gees. He used to play gigs with them at a local pub as teenagers. A few years back Barry visited the area, he said hello to my Brother-in-law and called him by name.
Nobody dared trying to copy Robin's voice or his iconic leads because it was impossible. Barry said many copied or even mocked his falsetto but nobody tried to copy Robin. His vibrato was superb. He had his own echo. Vibrato is a rapid but spot on variation in pitch many times in a millisecond and you either have it or you don't. It is like AC current and an effect of the central nervous system on the vocal chords. There are a few singers out there with good vibrato but the quality of his voice combined with his vibrato was unparalleled. Such a loss - both twins. Two of my favorite Robin leads are "Black Diamond" and "Country Lanes but there are dozens that I love. Together these brothers made magic.
I remember the first time I heard this song I was in the navy and my ship was off the coast of Vietnam...while up on a deck a shipmate was listening to a little transistor radio and he called me knowing I was from Massachusetts and he said you have to hear this...loved the Bee Gees ....and I heard later they never been to Massachusetts at the time they recorded this song..
A bit of trivia- The Bee Gees had never set foot in Massachusetts at the time this song was released. They had only toured a few places in New York. When asked about it, one of them said- "It just sounded like a great name."
One of my favorites! I prefer their earlier non-disco sound. "Gotta get a Message to You" is another good one of that type. It should also be noted that they are seated for this performance which constricts the breathing & most performers prefer to stand to better control the diaphragm.
Yes, phantastic! Strange news, so I've been reading that on the Rolling Stone magazine, Bee Gees are placed on Nr. 95 of best songwriters in music-history. 95??????????????? What the hell is goin' on with those ingnorant and arrogant, bloody bastard critizens. Bros. Gibb are holding so many records and Nr. 1 songs. Wrote about 1100 songs over nearly 5 decades. Were overlooked and written down so many times. But always came back, jumping over the hurdles which were thrown in their way. Please check'em out with a song, called 'Blue Island', live and unplugged on MTV-Most Wanted, in 1993 I think. You'll get perfect harmonies again!

Wow, I had not seen this acoustic version. Thank you for selecting this version to react to. I agree with your assessment. Robin's voice is magnificent. No one can sing like him and his voice cannot be imitated. This acoustic version shows off the talent of Robin and his brothers. It's just their bare voices and a couple of guitars and they sound just as fabulous. I just love them. By the way, some of the comments below keep referring to their disco era. They hated to be called disco because they hadn't heard of disco when they wrote the songs for SNF. Their producer, Robert Stigwood, contacted them to write some songs for this "little movie" he was doing. WOW, very minimal and almost acapella, and.....they sound great
This just shows the stunning talent these brothers possessed. Almost not fair, that there is it that much talent in 3 brothers...
Wow, stunning performance..
I love “Massachusetts.” Thanks, Harry! Love these reactions. Also, I love “Alone.” Bee Gees are great!
Loved Robin's vocals especially, always liked his songs (the ones he sang lead on) the best. Goosebumps for this 66 year old man.

Me too. I Started A Joke is my all time favorite!
"I Can't See Nobody" is up there on the top of my list, too!
Such beautiful voices and harmony. Barely any accompaniment, not cleaned up in post production; just live pure talent.
My personal favourite Bee Gees song Robin has the most beautiful voice
Another amazing accoustic song, "Blue island"😊
