Which of these iconic 1960s restaurants do you wish were still open today, and why?
Marie Callendars is still around though
NONE ! Good riddance to them all. In my mid-eighties, I am proud to say that, while I never had a lavish income, I never ate in any of these culinary travesties. As a child, my mother cooked wholesome and delicious meals; and I have been doing the same throughout my adult years !!
Chicken Delite. Their chicken was better than KFC IMO.
Wow that was Eve Plum on the Burger Chef commercials. My first job was at Red Barn in Colorado, burgers, chicken and that salad bar!
I LOVED the big barnie, I think that was the name. They had the best onion rings.
Eve Plumb is so pretty!
My sister's first job was at a Red Barn in 1972!
I had my first hourly paying job at BUGER CHEF RESTAURANT back in the early 1970's in Louisville , Kentucky .
What about pioneer chicken ? The closest thing to their fried chicken is churches
I wish there was a fried chicken chain that focused on fried chicken rather than places like Chick-fil-A Filet or Popeyes. KFC was once the best chicken around but will go bust. It's chicken is greasy as hell and over-priced. Every KFC I know of rarely has any business any longer. Corporate greed is what has destroyed a lot of chains like KFC.
I went to a KFC about a week ago. 😳 *$15⁰⁰ for a 5 nugget meal!!* 🤯 At THOSE prices, they Will go out of business unless they open a _finance counter!_ 🤣🤣
Let me introduce you to Bojangles.
@@theoldronin I've never heard of them. They must be a regional chain.
Anyone remember Howard Johnson's?
I miss the Red Barn.
Red Barn was one of my favorite places to eat during the 1970’s era
when the hungries hit, when the hungries hit, hit the red barn!
I worked st Ginos in the mid to late 70s in Harrisburg pa. When they had burgers and KFC chicken and it was great , and if you got a bucket or a barrel the lid wouldnt even fit on the container . KFC sucks now , i remember when we first got a salad bar .
There used to be a Red Barn close to my house back in '7.The building is still there but it is a Chinese eatery now. Also there used to be a chicken fast food restaurant called Chick Delite.Their slogan was " Don't cook tonite call Chicken Delite!.We used to like this better than KFC.There were several here in the Bay Area in the '60s and early 70s
Wow never heard of any of these except for Chi Chis. Maybe we just don’t get these chains in the Midwest
There is stilla Gino's its right up the street from me. In Glen Burnie MD
Thats Jan from The Brady Bunch!
Eve Plumb is so pretty!
My first experience with was with Burger Chef in Myrtle Beach, Sc.
In the 1970’s as a kid growing up in Evansville, Indiana payday Friday was a special family night out. First with cash in hand to do the weekly grocery shopping at Great Scot a local chain and then to Sandy’s for a Big Sandy (a better version of the Big Mac burger), fries and a Coke. Sadly both of these Scottish themed chains are gone now. But I still have my fond memories.
Nothing about Harvey's. It may have only been a regional restaurant in upstate New York. It was my favorite place for my parents to take me.
Gino's isn't completely gone. There's one near me in Maryland. It's not the same, though. :(
Still a Sandy's in MT
Do you remember sea galley and arthur treachers fish and chips and bonanza shakey's pizza
The rise of Burger King had as much to do with Burger Chef's demise as McDonald's
you don't know what you've got, until it's gone.
Those commercials were so ghastly
Not one pizza joint?!
Red Barn? ….was that the place where they would Throw you your Dinner Rolls ?. NOPE not according to this commercial.
I noticed then starting out talking about slow food then leaping into fast food restaurants. ..
Some pretty girls in this video!
2008-Obama. 2023-Biden.
With the exception of a Chi Chi's, Kenny Roger's & a Wetsons, which all went out of business, over 15 yrs. ago,
I don't believe Long Island, NY, (where I live) has ever had any of these other chain restaurants! Even with 3 three
million people on L.I., fast food chains won't come here, due to N.Y's outrageous income, sales taxes, utility bills
& building restrictions! Now, we have to add "runaway inflation", making their meal costs "skyrocket" in price!
4291 Merrick Rd
Massapequa, New York
Why is Chi Chi's listed in 60's restaurants? 😷
