I like this format of video. It's good to see what's involved and how each step evolves. Looking forward to seeing more. If you ever get a chance to show the cutting and welding (even if it is a timelapse) that would also be good. Thanks for sharing this.

Amazing how similar this rust is to my 2007 mk3. Don’t think mine has been caused by an impact. More so due to the foam padding on the fabric arch liner constantly being wet and rubbing on the seal between inner and outer panels. Although as in the video the other side is spotless. Any ideas on the cost of this repair? Repair sections are also available via mx5parts by IL.

Hi ,I'm in Scotland and I'm starting to see quite a lot of Mk3's being sold as MOT fails and uneconomic to repair.
Are the Mk3's that bad ?There is a 2005 on eBay at the moment at £950.00. I haven't looked at it ,but the online MOT seems to show extensive corrosion at both front and rear suspension mounting points. I didn't think any modern cars rusted that bad any more.
Are the mk2's a better buy?
    Thanks
    John

      Hi John,
I would say that any MX5 for £950 is going to be a risky purchase, we have seen some very rusty mk3 MX5's and I certainly wouldn't say the Mk2 is a better bet in terms of rust, look over any version very carefully

Are the inner arch panels available to buy or do you fab your own?

      Hi Dave,
We use part of the arch repair panels to create the inner arch lip, you can buy them from our website via the following link

Starting to shop for a mk3 how are they rust wise ? I know the mk1/mk2 almost all of them are rusted or have been repaired... same story with the mk3 or are they a bit better ? Thanks

The Mx3 still suffers from rust, mainly the rear arches, rear sills and rear subframe

Hi Jamie, it is best for you to email us on contact@themx5restorer.co.uk with photos showing your rear arches, we will then be able to give you an estimate

Did you zinc weld through prime the rear of the replacement arch? If you didn't that's not going to last long.
