    Some really interesting records there Dale and some brilliant looking covers, that Love Child looks like it’s absolutely mint!

      Yes the Love Child was in some records I got in the summer that were all in lovely condition. Normally Supremes records are pretty trashed...

    I never find finds videos boring. Far from it in fact. Always fascinated to see what people are picking up. It’s the threads video that really bore me. Nice eclectic mix. Saw Priest on the Killing a machine tour. They were very good. With you on Halfords voice. Some lovely covers - can see why you were drawn to them. No fan of classical but love that cover. Cheers Dale, Chris

      Thanks Chris - at a boot sale in the middle of a field with no reception, sometimes you have to take a punt based on the cover...cheers Dale

      @@gatefold33 taking a punt summarises my record buying quite often tbh

    Good work Dale; from Prokovief to Ska, that is quite the gamut. The only Floyd 45 I've ever owned is Brick in the Wall Part 2, so I'd definitely have picked up that Money single even though I too probably never need to hear that song again. I'm jealous of you finding that first Supertramp LP as I've never clapped eyes on a copy and for some reason their first couple of records are not available on Spotify. The Indo-Jazz record is quite a find, think that is quite a legendary release. There was a Selena Jones in my class at High School, but I don't think it was the same one. Cheers, James

      Highly recommend the Supertramp album if you ever come across it but appreciate that's going to be tricky given my search...Yes a decent copy of the Indo-Jazz would cost but my one is pretty beat but at least it plays reasonably...

    Hi Dale. Nice Laurel Aitken find. That’s not something you see every day. The Salena Jones album is a must, if only for her version of “Am I The Same Girl?”. A nice mixed bag of finds 👌

      Hi John, 'Am I the Same Girl' is probably the stand-out, although Dusty still tops it I think...

    Some nice finds Dale. Funny how Money comes and bites you. I never see that Supremes album about. Darn, I passed on the Lesley Duncan record last week. Cheers.

    Hi Dale. A Stax promo for a pound? Bizarre rendition ... I picked up 'Hard Up Heroes' secondhand as a teenager. It really influenced my musical tastes. Decca had an incredible 60s catalogue to cherry-pick ... Lesley Duncan for 50 pence is a great find.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Carl, yes Decca was huge in the 60s and 'Hard-up Heroes' really showcases the hits and misses. Cheers Dale

    Nice 7"s. I never really buy them, but these look really great. Funny that you got Money too! Lots of records that I am unfamiliar with here. I don't have any Judas Priest, for better or worse.

    Some nice finds Dale.
    Lovely Floyd 7"..don't see those too often.
    Arthur Lymans' Taboo is a nice listen, theres' a companion album to that one which is more of the same.
    I've never listened to very early Supertramp, but given your glowing description I'll check that one out.
    I have several Diana Ross and Supremes albums, none are essential although my favourite is actually Floy Joy which is post Diana..wonderful production and Smokey Robinson compositions.
    I've seen that Lesley Duncan album several times, perhaps I should pick that one up next time I see it.
    Have a great week.

      Hi Rob, I highly recommend Supertramp's debut if you ever see it. I've never been a huge fan of Diana Ross's voice so I can see how the post-Diana albums could appeal. The Lesley Duncan is worth a listen...cheers Dale

    I love that Lesley Duncan album as well, also the only one of hers I've kept. Ive wondered whether the cover art inspired early Belle & Sebastian sleeves, definitely got that feel
    You know she did backing vocals on some of dark side of the moon?

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 10 měsíci

      Good call on Belle & Sebastian and their use of a single colour palette on their albums...I'm sure I knew about the Dark Side connection at some point given the number of Floyd books I have but will confess it had slipped my mind so thanks for the prompt...

    I have always wondered about the first Supertramp album, guessing that it would be different from their more commercial later 70s work. Great find for a fiver.
    Lesley Duncan does sound a nice listen - just how much session work did Chris Spedding do in the 70s?
    Best find for me in this super-eclectic bunch has to be the Arthur Lyman Taboo LP. I do like Exotica but hardly ever see any originals for sale.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi John - I can recommend the Supertramp and the Lesley Duncan if you ever stumble across them...Chris Spedding certainly got around in the 70s...

  • @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

    A lot of the MoTown groups for me is a Greatest Hits album. I can get what I really love about that group in a single album, takes up less space. All killer no filler. Reggae Mint, lol. That can be said about Zamrock also, want an OG , don’t 2xpect a lot haha

    • @gatefold33

      I agree there's normally lots of filler on Motown albums. Reggae albums often party hard...

    The big question Dale……are you now going to become a Selina Jones completist? 😂 Wow that was an eccentric wonderland, a feast of genres. I must say the 7” singles I thought where particularly good pick ups. But excellent Supertramp, Judas and I’ve a soft spot for Lesley Duncan. Mike

    • @gatefold33

      Just 42 more Salena Jones albums to come across at boot sale Mike. So given this is my first in 10 years, I don't fancy my chances...

    You picked up some cool singles. I keep saying I'm not going to buy the vinyl when I have the CD and keep breaking that rule. There always seems to be some hypocrisy in collecting. I have never heard that Supertramp album. I do like the very early Supremes album and it was good to hear your thoughts on Love Child. Exotica music is a genre I enjoy as well when I am in the mood as well. Cheers.

      I am terrible in wanting the CD if I like the vinyl and vice versa. Just to ensure I can listen to an album at home or when I'm out. And this despite having a Spotify subscription...

  • @Thevinylscavenger
    @Thevinylscavenger Před 10 měsíci

    Maybe you started before me but I think our pick ups are starting to resemble each other. I've got quite a few of those including the Indo-Jazz & Arthur Lyman. I know why partly, it's the draw of the cover artwork, plus you probably also scour for information on the sleeve PLUS you just get a feel for what's gonna be interesting. Take it up another level then you'll start buying the albums you don't need but there's something curious about them even if they look crap. Me at least anyway.
    Difficult when things are a quid isn't it?

      Agreed and for me all of this is against the backdrop of the great 2023 record cull. I well on my way to filling the space I created earlier in the year...
