What's going on my friends?!? It's your pal SeanPierceJohnson here and welcome back to "Stompbox Saturday". Today, thanks to our buddy Darren, we are getting to dive into the deep waters of the Mooer Ocean Machine. Yes, this is the Devin Townsend signature delay & reverb pedal!
Two different delay engines and a single reverb give you vast depths of time and space effects to create everything from studio environments to large, ambient washes! It certainly does a thing, SO GRAB SOME HEADPHONES and prepare to get lost in the tidal waves of tone.

Devin demoing this thing a few years ago was the reason for me to put my DD3 back in the loop after my memory lane pedal, so good!
Straight forward, one thing at a time explanations. This is the only post in at least a dozen that I’ve watched which simplifies the how-to. Very well done.
Thanks man! It was a bit difficult to figure out how to break it down. There’s so much to unpack but I suppose the best thing to do is let the sound speak for itself.
@@SeanPierceJohnson: Exactly. How many players will use the unit to its full potential? It does so much, I suppose you could have done a 3 part series on it. My guess is those layers that would will have it down in a very short time, so your introduction was suffice. The rest, like myself, will create a few presets (from time to time) and that would be it. It’s just nice to have so much at your fingertips if you have the ability/wanting to use the thing like say Devin Townsend, plus the fact it’s downright inexpensive! Again, you did a great job. Thanks
Thanks for taking your time w this pedal, great demo!
Glad you liked it!
Another comprehensive review with masterful playing. Nice, man. Thanks.
You’re too kind my friend 🙏 thank you
Sweet shirt!
Oh man I've been anticipating this one for awhile now
Indeed! When I got the a Black Spirit it opened up the possibilities I was looking for.
This is such a great demo
thanks Jed. really appreciate the kind words.
Sounds good!
Thanks Janice 👍
Nice!! Cool little machine.
You got some great Reverb tones! Especially your signature clean riff, I love it everytime! 7:58 👍👍👍
thanks buddy!
Killer sounds on the intro dude!!
Thanks buddy! 👍
awesome!!!
thanks!
Got this to play The War on drugs. Awesome, thanks for taking your time to share
glad you dig the video!
I just got mine and have been testing it out.. and well the reverbs are VERY setup for ambient without any possibility to alter it. They all have a bit of modulation, even the room reverb, and a rather long pre-delay that cannot be changed. So i think it should be seen as a pedal for a specific sound rather then 3 pedals in one. But i think if you dont expect more from it then what it can deliver then its really nice :)
Cool!
Thanks
it can't rain all the time.. but with the ocean machine it will rain when you want it to! i love this awesone fx pedal.
it's always cold, wet and rainy with the ocean machine!
Nothing is trivial
Seen one of these at local shop I'm going to get it
It’s very good and is definitely the first step of Mooer showing how good their DSP design can be.
Brilliant - from 12.15 - Mooer Ocean +.......? :)
Insane killer tones!! I don’t like mooer that well but this is good
it sure is fun
Been contemplating buying this pedal for a while now and this video breakdown really helps. I have a question, with the loop function; can you just continue adding as many layers as you want? (p.s, absolutely loved the sounds you had going at 9m40). Thanks a lot for the video.
thanks John! very kind of you to say.
in my experience with the looper, I never reached a limit. but i don't add many layers when looping. It's maybe 10 layers on the loop tops.
i suppose the only way to find the limit is to do it.
buuuuuutttt...i don't have this pedal anymore : (
i have this pedal, the loop funcion yits mheeee , dont have Undo funcion
@@ezequielperezlindo4807 no Undo?
So if you make a mistake on your third layer, does that mean you have to delete all the previous layers too?
Nice demo.. so many good reverb delay combo in this price range, is this worth trying, I mean audio quality in live.. I know many of them sounds good in DAW recording. But how does it feel when you play it.. do you feel that notorious multieffects digital frizzle sound? Hopefully not bec I love to buy one 😂 Thanks
Thanks. And to answer your question, yes I’d say so. To me the studio is the ultimate test because you can zero in on things you’d otherwise lose in the live stream environment. Microphones can pick up things the human ear might miss.
I can only say that the sounds I showed were the ones I liked best but I enjoyed my time with the Ocean Machine.
I want it. But I don’t do a whole lot of ambient stuff. I play country. I like it as a all in one. Slap back delay, a bit more loose delay, and reverb. Pedal board space isn’t a issue. But nice to be able to run all 3 into a single power source. Reverbs sound great. Basic delays sound great. I want it. But feel bad holding the pedal back haha
Man I get what you mean! But seriously, don’t even sweat it. Use gear how YOU want to use it and damn those who criticize you for “not using it to its full potential”. Can’t tell you how many pedals or guitars I’ve used or owned that I maybe take advantage of MAYBE 25-50% of its capabilities
@@SeanPierceJohnson oh no man. I wasn’t worried about what people will say hahah. I’m kind of the set it forget it type. I like to run a amp style spring reverb and 2 delays. Delays set for typical slap back rockabilly and one I like to leave open for what the song calls for. But like I said. Having all 3 into one power port clears up a lot. Lol. But would definitely play around with it at home haha
PRO...
Thanks!
How do I stop the loop?
Double tap the Rec/Play/Stop footswitch
@@SeanPierceJohnson thanks a lot 🎶
