Thanks for watching. Let me know what you think of the Sportster 1200 Custom or indeed any of the Sportster range of bikes. More videos like this here: czcams.com/play/PLmgCmljtdCzUPlkO9kNjj0ARrfojWPFFU.html

I have a 1200C for two years it’s been brilliant with slight upgrades like 13.5 inch emulsion shocks off the roadster on the back and forward controls but the biggest improvement is the tall boy seat 300+ miles zero discomfort!! And I have an eroded lower disc in my back that’s how comfortable it is now.
The possibilities of personalisation or customisation are almost endless with a sporty and I highly recommend the 1200. I had the 883 before lovely but found the power and vibration at speed not a good enough but the 1200 smooth and quick can be hustled around at a fair pace when in the mood 😉

I have a 2014 Sportster Custom. It’s such an enjoyable bike to ride. As an older rider I really appreciate the lack of extra weight. It’s a keeper for me.

Love the Sportster. It is a great bike. Yes it's less size on the motor.... but its also less weight. They are plenty powerful if you ask me. You get the old Harley feel on a sportster.. I actually prefer the 2004 model with the carburetor. Would not be my first choice for long hauls for sure, but for 2 or 3 hour rides they are hard to beat.

Well you've convinced me. I'm 61, and been thinking about getting a Harley 1200 for ages. I already have a 2011 Thruxton 900. Which I'll keep forever, but really like the laid back look, and particularly the sound of a Harley. Great video, looks like it was filmed around Suffolk, my home county. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

This is a great watch , I’m just about to get a sportster 1200 switching from a Pan European! My main concern was I’m 6.1 and everyone says it’s a small bike . So I’m glad you say you don’t feel
    Too big on it

Brilliant review Mate… after years of different bikes (and still ride a RE bullet and Vstrom 1000) I just bought a used sportster custom 8k on the clock, 2019 model - what a bike ! Your review just really made a difference - very objective and ticks all boxes of what you need to know beyond tech specs.

Not sure why people label bikes like we see here.
Saying things such as popping into town.
I rode my sportster 48 across North Wales onto Anglesey.
Jumped on a ferry to Dublin.
Rode across to the west coast of Ireland to a town called Westport....for 2 weeks I rode on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Rode back Dublin...Ferry to Anglesey then home to Merseyside.
The return journey i rode in a Monsoon....the bike never missed a beat....and they say Harleys are dreadful at reliability.
My advice is don't listen to these blog morons ....get out there and do your thing.
    Ride safe lads

I have a 1200 and 2 883 in my garage at the moment. The 883s are fun to ride, nimble handling adequate power. They easily exceed speed limits everywhere. The 1200 is mad fun, can get you into trouble pretty fast. It handles just as well only being a few pounds heavier. Both 883s are getting hammer1275 kits soon. I used to ride big bore sportbikes when I was younger and I’ve ridden bigger harleys and prefer to ride sportsters these days. They’re just fun and easy to ride. If I start taking long rides maybe I’ll look into a bike made more for that.

An excellent and fair review. I have the sportiest ever sportster, the XR1200X, and can tell you it never ceases to put a snail on my face. I reach for those keys far more often than I do for my 1 year old BMW R1200RS.

If you stage one the performance difference is not that much. They say a Sporty 1200 with Stage 1 has more power then a standard not stage TC103. Models 2016 have improved rear suspension. The Custom or the Superlow (this stopped in the US) is the best Sportster cause of the usable 17 liter fuel tank.

    Alf,
I've owned two Sportys and have never seen an ugly one -- they all look "right."
However, being a man of "normal" proportions (6'1", 240 lbs.) They tend to wallow in the turns with my large arse aboard. I upgraded my last one to progressive springs fore and aft, and that helped, but it was nigh-on to impossible, at speed, to hold a line in a choppy turn. Did you find the suspension up to the task on your loaner?
    Thank-You,
    Mike

Yep got to say it was great all around actually. Yep it still felt small for me as I'm of a similar size and I suppose in truth I didn't push it either but for what it was, all good. I'd say for me I'd have a Sportster for urban riding though as I really like how light it feels. Cheers

Also being a large person sportspersons rider I’ve found that used dyna rear shocks make a good improvement for cheap. Dynas are roughly 200lb heavier than sporty. I had my preload up on the last notch. A 120 lb passenger overloaded the rear with me being 6’3”& 240. With the dyna shock it can be on softest setting for just me and I still have adjustability to add a passenger.

I was thinking about buying the Triumph T120 but I've heard so many bad things about Triumph's customer services it as put me off..
What is your experience with HD customer service?
I like the soft tail but with a £5,000 pound price tag difference I'll think the 1200 Sportster is more to my liking maybe if I wasn't buying a mk8 Golf R aswell lol. I have riden nearly every HD bike including a buel and even passed my test on a Sportster 1200 but have never owned one.

Alf, I enjoy your videos but please edit them a bit shorter with less waffle (in my opinion). When you mentioned your friend with a 48...the tank is very small, and doesn't compare . When you compare the 1200 with the sport glide , of course it doesn't have the same power, but let's not forget a few decades ago when a big bike was either 500 or 750cc! Apart from my off the cuff ramblings, keep the good videos coming.

You are on a Custom! You can’t get an 883 Custom. Isn’t this all about the Custom??? Just like any HD family there are variants and a 72 is not going to handle Ike a 48 or a Custom or a Roadster. This vid is about the custom and you riding this bike.
