The threaded method allows to save the brass bushing when properly done. Once the tap starts to grab in the bushing, just do 5 turns. That should result in a total of 6 turns which is sufficient to pull out the bushing but won't go all the way through it. Regards !

Instead of the dedicated $80 slide hammer, use a 1/4-20 all-thread rod, the hammer off the cheapy slide hammer you may already own, a long 1/4-20 coupler (nuts will just strip) and some 1/4" fender washers. The all-thread threads into the removal tool, the hammer bangs on the washers which are stoppeed by the 1/4-20 coupler. About $10 in parts if you own a slide hammer, maybe another $20 if you don't.

Thanks for sharing, question on the threading method, I'm guessing you have to replace the bushing as well, right?

NO NOT AT ALL!! the outside of the bushing contacts the wall of the lower and is UN affected! just install a new o ring and Hammer it back in!!

I looked up the part on Crowley marine. They show a straight piece of stainless. Any chance you can verify please. I have been looking for the exact tool you got . Same for eBay .
      Thanks
