The steam review of "I can quit any time I want." With 14,671 hours played... is painfully accurate.
Legitimately?? 615 years of experience is crazy
@@dre30mag65 14,671 hrs is not 615 years lol it’s less than two years

This is why I swore off all CIV games forever. It's too much of a time-sink.
@@InvaderNatDT I can't think of anything better to do.

it's half the pleasure. other half is being interested in trade agreements with england
Everyone Greco,

💀
I just got into Civ6, this line helped me understand why i prefer Against the Storm over this.
i audibly blurted out "real" when he said that lmao it can get so bad 😭
This game ruined my productivity and sleep schedule.
Worth it, 10/10
When someone asks if the game is good, we say, with 2 days of sleep deprivation: "It's amazing! DON'T PLAY IT".
Spiral out!
Is it on your cellphone tho?

My finest achievement was convincing my college anthropology professor to spend the last day of class playing Civ 2 on the lecture room computer while everyone watched. 🙂
Glorious!!!
What happened in his gameplay during the class?
Civ 2 formed my earliest gaming memories because my father always let me watch hin playing it when I was maybe 3-4 years old. Great Times!
@@jjjsalang we played the original Rise of Rome scenario in Civ 2 as Carthage. So......not a lot to be honest, lol. Did manage to kill some Gallic chariots with our elephants, tho.
Does he still blame you for his addiction? 😂
Civilization 6 plays best on the Steam Deck. Not only does the combination of game pad, trackpads and touch screen feel like the most natural way to play it but the “3% battery remaining” warning actually creates a stopping point where you can’t one more turn anymore no matter how bad you want to.
Nice idea! At least I get to sleep between charges
Yeah, I have Civ 6 and it's really good time waster on a flight or road trip
Deck user here. Get you a 65W battery bank and long usd-c cable rated for fast charging and keep playing. Even if you manage to drain both (I've yet to), just take a 1/2hr break and recharge both and you'll be good to go hours longer.
@@ryuk65 have they improved the civ 6 ai since launch? I just went back to civ 5 shortly after civ 6s release.
@@Joshua-fi4ji same. Civ 5 is the penultimate version at this time.
I remember playing Civ V years ago. I started playing at around 8 pm. I had started a war and wanted to complete just one more turn. Many turns later, I heard a noise and thought, "are those...birds?" At that point, it was 5 am.
Great work on this trailer. Also, let's hear it one time for the Civ V: Brave New World cinematic intro!
Similar story, back in Civ 1.
I sat down at the lab computer just after hours to give it a try. Some time later, my bladder ached too badly and I had to make a trip to the washroom. On the way back (I still had not desire to stop) I noted that it was 4 a.m.
Civ 5 is the best, imo, I felt that, mate, one more turn, just 1 more, boom its 5am :D
Civ 5 with mods is probably the best strategy game out there tbh
I think most Civ players have done this at least once.
@@jfridy Or multiple times, I was addicted to Civ II.
I once lost a weekend to Civ V. I logged on a Friday. And signed off on a Sunday. I’ve only lost a weekend like that once more in my life but crossing the international dateline was involved.
There was nothing quite like playing the Civ boardgame for building friendships! Just like Monopoly or Uno, but an hours-long slowburn that ultimately made you understand Ghandi's simmering nuclear rage to nuke these fools. lol
And then you could lose those friends again by playing Diplomacy!
me watching the honest trailer for the series that raised me with tears in my eyes: it's beautiful
This game saved me during CoViD lockdown.
Left screen, zoom meetings.
Right screen, work information.
Middle screen, Civ VI.
Always looked like I was paying attention to the meetings!
lol. makes it a lot easier to get through the meetings.

The gateway to the hard stuff. One moment you're naming your cities stinky but and then you somehow have a crippling hoi4 addiction and a history degree.
For real, you were doing fine with some XCOM and Total War in your youth but after that first Civ game oh man, then a few more Civ games, you find yourself years later with so many hours in EU4 you can consider it an honorary degree in Geography. 😂😂😂
This speaks to me in so many levels I feel observed
You joke but I graduated with a history degree last year. I started playing Civ when I was 12. 😂😂
@@UdyKumra i don't think anyone is joking here. I started with AoE and AoM when I was ten and twelve years later got my degree in History as well. It is just the way it is lol
Same here but I don't have a history degree because I wanted to eat when I grow up. But I'm going to get it as a hobby latter down the line.
"Hmm, let's not get cancelled" was genius
"because everything i can think of sounds racist..."
honesty 100.
Clever way to weasel out of having to think of something for each of the gorzilion leaders they've got now (compared to the first one). The Pokemon "starring" lists are bad enough!
It was kinda sad tbh, especially given he made a comment about getting revenge against the English immediately afterwards.
@@at7915 Found the english royalist!
Then they show a clip of blonde white people in a futuristic utopia.

Nuclear Gandhi was originally caused by a glitch which resulted by Gandhi having the lowest aggression in the game, which if lowered further could drop below and roll over to 15, which was the highest value the game supports. Aggression is a hidden value from 0-15 (4 bit value or half a byte) but is normally capped at 10 because higher values caused issues with gameplay when factions do what Nuclear Gandhi does. In later games they just kind of leaned into it and made it a part of the game.
Finally! Time for more strategy games
Age of Empires series deserves the love. Over 20 years old and still going strong! Stronger than ever in fact. :D
Hoping all the Paradox games get Honest Trailers.
Incest Simula... I mean, Crusader Kings!
@@Enceladeans Yep. And then Dawn of War!
Rise of Nations is another throwback classic.
Funny how 23 years of my life can be so easily condensed down into a trailer less than five minutes long.
Sid Meier’s Colonization is actually a real game.
It's not actually by Sid Meier though. It's by Brian Reynolds, just like Civilization II and Alpha Centauri. They just stuck Sid Meier's name on it for marketing reasons.
Smh, they talked about the board game, of course they know that.
@@johnharris3311 Has nothing to do with that. Sid Meier hasn't been the main designer since Civ I. There have always been multiple designers attached to Firaxis-Titles and never the same main designer in order to keep it fresh. Sid Meier is more like a seal of quality.
They kept using it after Sid Meier's Pirates, because Robin Williams told them to. And who would they be to refuse him?
@@stevesteiner7220 Not quite true. Meier was lead designer on Civilization Revolution, aka Civilization For Consoles.
@@johnharris3311 Uh, Sid Meier is the founder of Firaxis. That's why they kept his name on the series. He might not have _personally_ designed it, but it's still his company. Plus, by this point the naming scheme is tradition.
Regarding Colonization: The base game (of Civ 4: Colonization, at least) absolutely sucks, however there are AMAZING mods out there that make it so much better. I don't have my hours counted on Steam for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I have more hours in that game than any single of the main series games. And I'm currently busy modding my _own_ changes into it to make it even better. It's amazingly easy.
I didn't think you'd be able to capture the legendary Civilization series in such a short video, but you did an amazingly competent job of doing just that.
You nailed it. Great job!
While it was an awkward child of Civ games, Civilization Beyond Earth holds a special place in my heart
While Civ 5 remains my fav, I’d take Beyond Earth before Civ 6
Been playing since 1991 when I was 9 and now I'm 40 and still playing. Helped me a lot in history classes!
Also has some of the best soundtracks in Gaming. Baba Yetu is a legit masterpiece.
Yes, the music!
(And the sound effects could be good, too.)
@@whatisahandle221 it’s stuff like the sound effects being perfect that give this game such a level of polish.
Another thing like that is the icons for units and buildings and techs etc. They’re overlooked 99% of the time, but they’re actually amazingly communicative yet simple.
I often play Civ in the language I’m learning, and it’s actually a great tool. The icons and UI basically let you play most of the game perfectly alone. I learned the Spanish word for everything from scout to jet fighter by just playing, without using any English, because the icons were so clear even though they’re tiny. Every tech, civic, unit, building resource type is a huge vocab list of nouns that matter.
Sogno di Volare by Christopher Tin is awesome too! Even when you load for a long time and listen to it for 10+ minutes! xD
I thought I was the only one who spent 5mins on the main menu every damn time before actually starting a game😂
FYI, the song is just the most popular prayer in Christianity in Swahili.
They actually did it ! They didn't give us the best starring section of all times though, which I would understand if they hadn't done the entire pokemon roster. Several times.
The end game where each turn takes about half an hour is a very different kind of pain
painful - but it sure doesn't stop me. in fact, it just makes me want to upgrade my computer!
Finally civilization! Awesome trailer for an awesome series of games that have taken far far too many hours of my life, that " just one more turn" hit me in the heart!
Civilization is one of those Perfect Games. Every form its existed it has been captivating. I have given a third of my life to video games and I am very certain that the majority of that time was strategy games. From age of empires at 4 years old all the way to today.
seeing that CIV III footage makes me so nostalgic. still my favorite part, though probably through rose tinted glasses
Same for me with civ 4
I wonder why they didn't show any Civ II footage. That's the only one I saw missing.
"As you appear on a random world map, just as our ancestors did before us."
Priceless!
Civ VI is releasing the last bits of content (after 2 expansions, 7 DLCs and 1 "leaders pack" split in 6 parts) today
Fun fact: Baba Yetu, Civ IV main theme, became the first piece of video game music to be nominated for and to win a Grammy Award
And the live rendition was fantastic
The first time I launched Civ IV and heard Baba Yetu for the first time, I sat there silently, frozen in awe and listened for a few minutes. Never before (and never after) has a video game music so deeply touched me. I had been playing every Civ before (Civ 1 on the Amiga 500), but I was not prepared for this. It kinda sucked they replaced the main screen and music with the expansions, luckily you could return to the original.
@@itchy-de There's some truly outstanding renditions of Baba Yetu online. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.
Thousands of hours of my life went to this series. Still playing civ2, 4 and 6 regulary
So glad you finally did CIV. I don’t want to think about how many hundreds (thousands?) of hours of my life has been spent with this series. Starting with CIV 2.
YES!!! finally!!
EDIT: beautiful "Tenochtitlan" pronunciation. (and the "games like a risk board" line was perfect for Europa Universalis and its sister games.)
Love that you used the Civ 1 splash screen. I loved downloading it from abandonware and playing it on my computer on a big screen tv with the music coming from a far too expensive audio setup. Is so absurdly silly everyone should do it once.
Can’t help but smile in pride that the composer of the heartwarming theme to Civilization 4, “Baba Yetu”, is also Taiwanese. 🇹🇼😊🎶❤️ You *earned* that Grammy, Maestro Chris Tin! 🥲🎶❤️🇹🇼
Civ IV arguably has the best soundtrack, easily.
so Chinese
Kind of surprising that it took them this long to get around to doing Civilization.
Also, there is a Sid Meier's: Colonization. It's a spinoff of Civ.
So true. I love this sort of game, but it's not easy to look back at each session without saying "I just spent half a day doing WHAT ?!"
Did you know they made an actual game called Sid Meier's Colonization?
I have a copy. It wouldn't be released nowadays.
@@edwardrusk Why?
@@stevesteiner7220 Topic is too touchy. If you put slavery in the game (because it was historically a major aspect of New World colonialism), you get canceled for having slavery in your game. If you don't put slavery in the game (to avoid the aforementioned), you get canceled for whitewashing historical atrocities.
@Leyrann Yeah, somewhat. It moreso that the narrative around First Nation's people have moved along a lot in the last 30 years, so having a "exploit the locals" simulation wouldn't go over well (understatement).
@@edwardrusk Why not? I have a game called Imperialism.
The whole video and not one word about Sean Bean. My favorite part of every playthrough is when you hit currency and Sean jumps in with "Money..."
A+ use of the Conan quote boys, absolutely beautiful.
Conan was quoting Genghis Khan.
Could have easily doubled the run time of this video showing all the requests for this series over the years.
My all-time favorite game. The one that keeps me saying "Just one last turn...". Then 3 hours later, I'm still playing.
The “just one more turn” really got me, the amount of times I’ve said that playing Civ V is unreal
Some context on nuke happy Ghandi.
In Civ 1, world leaders had a preset aggro level. Ghenghis Khan was at a 9 while Ghandi was at 1. But there was a glitch were a certain setting lowers that aggro by 1. Since the old game couldn't do 0, it cycled around giving Ghandi a 10 aggro. Now Ghandi only attacks and if he last long enough to get nuclear weapons he is bombing your cities as soon as a nuke is finished.
It was so much fun discovering that. "Ho-humm, I have a peaceful trading partner... oh god! Oh god! Fire everywhere!"
Read the wikipedia article about nuclear gandhi. self fulfilling myth from a bug that never existed
Sadly it is just a old urban myth. The game had no such "Variable underflow" issues and if one played the originals they'd find Gandhi just being Gandhi.
But the urban myth became so well known that in later games it got implemented on purpose in honor of it and ever since Gandhi really liked nukes...
The Glitch was getting Democracy. Democracy reduces aggro by 1, setting Ghandi on the way to war. And Nuclear Weapons weren't far from Democracy.
This is too perfect of a glitch. 😂
Will always remember walking into a local computer store in 2002 and all the guys had this going.
Yay at finally doing Civilization. Now do an Honest Trailers for the Simcity series and Hyperdimension Neptunia!
very related series
Nepu Nepu!
my addiction on civ games started back in 1999 when my oldest brother bought civ 2 on our playstation 1.
Civ II is still the best game. I would love a sequel to Alpha Centauri more than another Civ game.
Honestly after the failure that was Beyond Earth, I just want a proper remaster of Alpha Centauri. I don't think anyone can capture it again.
I still play Civ 2. I tried more advanced versions, but they became so complex that they were no longer “fun.” They were more like work. I recently bought a reconditioned old computer, so I could still play civilization two on it
Please do an Honest Game Trailer for the Plants vs Zombies franchise
Which Sid Meier's Civilization side game do you like most?
I really like Sid Meier's pirates and Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization
IV, definitely. The modding alone makes it the best.
@@timeisnowboltz770 THIS. Fall from heaven was one of the best games ever created.

"Then restart the game a couple of times for better resource spawns."
Lost so many months and years doing that.
I hate to say it, but not mentioning the XCOM Unit from Civilization 5, broke my heart.
Stomping out the English as the Zulu. I feel personally attacked 😂
You forgot to mention that there is a title soundtrack which won't ever leave your mind
I've sunk thousands of hours into this game series ever since the first one. Totally worth it.
Almost 25 years later, Alpha Centauri still the best Civ.
Building Wonders is ok but nothing was more rewarding then getting a minimovie for building a super project.

But civ4 feels better.

Help I just started playing this and I can’t stop LOL
Civilization is a great game, it is just that some people don’t have what it takes.
I loved Civ3 like crazy, but I would love a Rimworld trailer even more!
Rimworld: a game that make most horror movies look harmless.
Wow, this clearly took quite a bit of effort. I've played this game so much and still really love it today.
About time you got around to this one!
Civ V is still my top played game in Steam. Chieftain difficulty, Shoshone for bigger initial cities, large map, Small Continents, 3 other civs. Gives me time to expand and build without having to beat up jerks. That's just how I relax...
Civ 6 for me never had that “one more turn” feel. But I absolutely had it for Civ 5! It’s also my most played steam game.
@@dereka5017 yeah civ 6 is more stressful. Those damn cards…
Me still trying to get all Wonders in King difficulty while playing Shoshone with pure Liberty policy all these years. While my friends moved on to CiV6.
that's the conditions I give to my 8 year old
Civ4, Emperor level, Tokugawa on fractile map is for men only
Long shot, but I'd like to see a Dwarf Fortress Honest Trailer, now that it has an official release.
just one more turn... aaaaaand its 5am.

I once play a marathon of this and forgot to sleep entirely.
Fandom Games: I knew something was wrong when i could pronounce Tenochtitlan
Washington: Certainly not
Good review! My appetite for the games is minimal now. I was broken when Stellaris updated its economic micromanagement. Nonetheless, I will give Age of Wonders 4 a solid try.
I prefer Endless Space to Stellaris, honestly. Europa Universalis is probably my favorite game in the genre, though.
Distant Worlds 2 is OK 👌
The Civ games peaked at Civ4 Beyond the Sword. That game with the Civ 2 advisors would have been absolutely perfect.
Yeah, I still go back to Civ 4 a lot. For me, what makes it so playable is that it moves quickly. 5 and 6 are so heavy on graphics and animation that they just feel slow to play, while you can absolutely burn through turns in 4 on a modern PC.
Plus, Baba Yetu and Leonard Nimoy.
@@jasonblalock4429 I mean there are options to make combat and movement faster in Civ V and VI. And while I understand not everyone has the best computers available to them, surely a game from 2011 can’t be that hard to run

About spat my drink out at your "Starring" section! Well played
Idk why the "Eiffel Tower of Detroit" line made me die laughing 😂
Due to constant exposure to the Civilization games, my kid never cracked open a history book in her entire time in school. Thank you Sid Meier!

Ok now do HOI4
Love that you used Civ 1 logo in that intro =)
The first 17 seconds of the start of the video legit just summed up my gaming taste for the past, what? 5 years, maybe? Want to get into these but either have to use cheats or just got to damn lazy to start lol
Anyway, great video. Can't imagine what it would be if you do one for Crusader Kings

Loved this one. I've played almost every version of Civ. So addictive!
this game made my "just 1 turn more" into "just 100 turns more"
lol I love that you put the beyond earth game as the game for this video. as the space victory of F this I am going to space, doesn't get you out of it in the sid meier world, you just have to do it all over again on a new planet, now with aliens.
"Civ 2" was the one that I spent the most time with. I thought it did a great job of building on the original.
