  • Dr. Russ shoots the new Evanix 30 Caliber Pistol and the problems associated with black bears in the Smoky Mountains. He then reviews responsibilities that are part of air gun defense, whether it’s with Black Bears or an intruder in your home. He also shares a few experiences in Vietnam where he served in an Infantry Division. They all play a role whenever you decide to defend yourself and your home.

    Dr. Russ: Once again, I have been blessed with your insights and the benefit of your experiences. I just honored a neighbor with plaque that included a variety of medals, challenge coins, etc commemorating his service as a Flight Operations Specialist with the 281st Assault Helicopter Company from '67 to '69 in Nha Trang. You fellas went to heck and back for U.S. Thank you so much stepping up and for still being a person that values life. I'm a huge proponent of less lethal "launchers" (hate to call them 'guns' because we know where that'll lead to eventually). Everyone is someone's son or daughter, regardless of their choices. We had a NYS Trooper with just four years on the job very suddenly put in a situation by a disturbed/distressed 17-year-old this past November in Bloomfield, NY wherein the teen explosively attacked the trooper with a knife and the trooper had to draw and fire while being attacked. The teen is dead, and the trooper, while more than justified in shooting, will likely relive that shooting many times, especially as the bodycam footage has been released to the public. Thanks again for everything, Dr. Russ, and high praise for your camera person as well! You two make a great team, IMO!

    WOW! Great words of wisdom Dr Russ! That really helps the sane person take a 2nd thought before acting. I also never new about "Justifiable Homicide". It makes total sense. Thanks for all that you do to make us better shooters and especially, Better People.
    Much respect for you Dr Russ. I was born and raised in JC, KS and know all about the big red 1.
    Oh, yes I do have ptsd without knowing it. Not sure if I need counseling, but now that I know I have it, I can plan from there.

    I'm glad you got the support you needed deal with your ptsd . I can imagine the guilt can become unbearable having to kill the guy whose trying to kill you in that firefight situation. But thank God for you and your other men that justifiable homicide situation must have made it easier to reconcile that guilt. It was either you or the other guy. You would have no other choice but to defend yourself

      Eddie Alvarez ... thanks for the response... Most burglars have some weapons .. or at least some tools to break in....a knife being one of those items carried by many ... with blades longer than the 3.4 legal inches. Nonetheless, few ... even big guys can stand the pain of BB's or Pellets hitting the legs ... or even the initial sight of the other guy appearing with any type of gun. Your knife point is well taken ... Dr. Russ

    That really hit the spot my friend, very wise and interesting words. I'm curious about your view on current events, I think this is why more and more people think they have to go totally John Wick. The thread is not your classic burglar anymore . . .

    Lets play the odds here brother. If an armed burglar, and many of them are armed, enters your home when you are there, but does not know you are there, and you both spot each other at the same time and both are armed.... Do you wait to see if he or she is armed before you put them down, or do you wait until either you or your family member is shot before attempting to dispatch the SOB? Many many gang members rob or burgle home on a routine basis. I know some guys that were in these gangs and was even recruited to join them.. I declined and almost lost my life for that. They will not only kill a person if they are stealing a $400 tv.. they will put your lights out for just looking at them wrong. So yes, I would take my chance with the judge vs with an armed SOB in my house, shall we say, uninvited. I don't play Russian roulette with my or my family's lives or safety.

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 Před 3 měsíci +6

      Gun ClingingPalin - thanks for your response. I still have one more defense video coming that dwells on items that cause a thief to choose another home versus yours. These are important, and include signage that identify burglar alarms, dogs, etc. Secondly, statistics find that most burglars do not bring a gun .. which only increases their jail time if caught ... plus burglars are often looking for their next $500 versus owning a $500 firearm. Nonetheless, every area has a different breed of criminal. Keep in mind that I still carry a powder gun, but I want to show the prosecuting attorney that I used several other less deadly choices in my overall plan. Dr. Russ

    Thanks for another great video Dr Russ & crew.
    Was wondering if you’d had any problems with larger animals being poisoned from all the rat/mouse/squirrel poison you put out? Here in our suburb we just lost a bald eagle due to secondary poisoning from eating tainted wildlife. Sad to see it’s mate alone now..

      Akira ... you bring up a good point. We don't have any bald eagles in this area ... but there are some golden eagles nesting about 300 miles north. We are concerned about any poisons ... especially with 15 grandkids continually visiting. All of my poisons are inside in the attic or garage ... or right along the brick line foundation of our home. Typically, we don't see any Hawks, owls or protected birds that close to our home. Most birds go to our bird feeders which are away from the house ... and the poison. Dr. Russ

    I see your point but these days when someone breaks in your house expecially at night they have a real gun and will use it on you no matter what so pointing a airgun at him will just get you killed. It all depends what area you live in cause some criminals are very viscious and evil.

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 Před 3 měsíci +2

      John ... thanks for writing... and if you listen carefully to my last video, you will hear me say that I carry a real powder gun as a backup. the key is proving to the police, city attorney and the judge that you hoped that an air pistol or rifle was there to deter a deadly shooting. I did not include the statistics for night time burglars. It turns out that 80% of night time break ins are commercial and not residential... and regardless of day or night break ins, the burglar often has a pry bar or knife and not a gun, which only exposes him/her to a much worse legal punishment. He or she rarely break into a home or business to kill ... they came to rob. If they had a gun, they might pawn that off before actually being flat broke and breaking in. The key is that you practice, practice, practice ... and I promise that a single BB, let alone a dozen BB's hurt ... well placed ....and sends the burglar running the other way. Review my video again and weigh the legal costs and mental costs of killing another person. Nonetheless, I believe that having only a powder gun should be your weapon of choice ... if you are involved in an illegal act yourself, where the other guy is prepared to kill you ... Dr. Russ

    hello dr Russ ,i think that airguns for selfdefence are not protected by the 2a , anti gunners dont like hunting selfdefence and shooting lead in the nature .and like they can ban a car if its dangerous , they can do with airguns ,
    just my opinion.
    airguns are great for fun and target even at the longer range
