Ron Glazer I met her once too. It was a long time ago, but I will always remember her genuine kindness and joy of life. A true class act and wonderful roll model, unlike most of today’s celebrities.

Thank heavens - a version without the triple I commentary (idiotic, irrelevant & irritating) on a different performance of this exquisite performance.
No one skates like this anymore because they spend no time on figures and too much time on jumps. As a result, it is almost impossible for current skaters to be truly musical. They simply cannot hold an edge for the length of time needed to complete a musical phrase in an adagio. I used to be an avid figure skating fan. No more.

Gorgeous. This performance is timeless. No one can skate like this and give this type of performance except Dorothy. It's sad that we most likely won't see Dorothy skating public performances anymore.

In 1977, Dorthy came with the Ice Capades to the Kemper Arena in Kansas City. I drove from Lawrence Kansas to see her. At the end of the show she came onto the ice with other members of the show. When she ventured out into the audience I ran around the arena front row, actually kncking over several members of the show to meet. She couldn't havrpent been more gracious. She laughed as she saw me push aside others to get to her. We exchanged a few pleasantries, and on a dare from a friend, I asked her if I might kiss her. She agreed, I did so, and was in

That "Pie Jesu" is definitely by Andrew Lloyd Webber, from his REQUIEM MASS (1985) in memory of his father. This portion combines the text of the "Pie Jesu" with that of the "Agnus Dei," I.e.:
'Blessed Jesus, Who takes away the sins of the world, Give them rest. Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, Give them rest ... Everlasting rest.'
Thank you for presenting this video; I remember crying when Dorothy Hamill actually won the gold, against all odds, beating out the seemingly stuck- up gal who thought she would win ... and to see Dorothy skate so magically, years later, is very inspiring! :
BTW, Please look at a video of angelic little Jackie Evancho (from Pittsburgh, PA) singing Webber's "Piae Jesu" - either dressed much like an angel on America's Got Talent [Jackie Evancho stunning performance!! ...in beautiful HD. ♫ Calling Heart Records, LLC ♫ 1.5 million views - uploaded on Sep 7, 2010
MUST SEE AND HEAR TO BELIEVE!!! *Voice of an angel. 8'59" {or 9'00"} ], or when she was introduced by legendary David Foster in front of 12,000 people in Las Vegas, where she looked like the sweetest little child in the world and made many folks cry! Both times she was only ten years old, stunning everyone with this amazing voice of a grown- up angel! :0

derrick howlett - YES, JACKIE IS QUITE A PHENOMENON TO SAY THE LEAST, AND SO IS AMIRA, HAVE YOU SEEN HER YET ? LIKE JACKIE, BUT THE EUROPEAN VERSION, WINNER ON SOME TALENT SHOWS OVER THERE, AND NOW THE FEATURED SINGER WITH THE VIOLINIST RIU, AND HIS ORCHESTRA....
I HAVE SEVERAL VERSIONS OF JACKIE SINGING "PIE JESU" IN MY COLLECTION, RECORDED WITH THE HAUPPAUGE DEVICE IN HD, WHICH IS ABOUT THE BEST QUALITY RECORDING OF TV YOU CAN GET THESE DAYS, BUT I CAN'T POST THEM ON YOU TUBE, CAUSE CERTAIN SHOWS, LIKE THE TONIGHT SHOW, WHERE SHE SANG IT, WILL BLOCK THE VIDEO, SHE ALSO SANG IT ON THE TODAY SHOW..........BUT I WILL CHECK OUT YOUR SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE SURE I'VE SEEN THOSE VERSIONS TOO, I THINK I HAVE, BUT WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE, FUNNY AND IRONIC THAT I HAVE THE MOST DIVERSE AND EXTENSIVE CHANNELS THAT I'VE SEEN ON YOU TUBE (WOULD LOVE TO BE PROVEN WRONG, BUT SO FAR I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYONE THAT CAN COMPETE WITH ME, AND HALF OF MY VIDEOS ARE ORIGINAL TO ME AS WELL, THAT NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD HAS --- A LOT OF SPECIALIST CHANNELS OUT THERE, BUT NO ONE ANYWHERE NEAR AS DIVERSE) BUT THE IRONIC PART IS, THAT AS AN AVID VIDEO FREAK, I COULD POST QUITE A LOT MORE THAN 10 TIMES WHAT I ALREADY SHARE, IF NOT FOR ALL THE GREEDY BASTARDS SLOWING ME DOWN...........FUNNY PART OF IT IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED ENTIRE ALBUMS AND COMPLETE WORKS OF ARTISTS BEING POSTED, AND ALLOWED ON HERE NOW, AS SOME OF THEM HAVE FINALLY STARTED TO REALIZE THAT THE FREE ADVERTISING OF YOU TUBE CREATES AN INTEREST IN THE MATERIAL OF AN ARTIST, AND PUTS MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS, BUT IT ONLY TOOK THEM 20 YEARS OF THE INTERNET TO FIGURE THIS OUT........
..........AND AS A VORACIOUS MUSIC AND VIDEO FREAK THAT I AM, OF COURSE I AM ALL OVER YOUR SUGGESTIONS, LIKE THE ROBERT SHAW VERSION, SO THANKS FOR THAT............AND I MIGHT SAY, IF I STILL LIVED IN OHIO, LIKE I DID AS A KID, I MIGHT HAVE TO STUDY WITH YOU AT THE UNIVERSITY, YOU SEEM LIKE QUITE AN INTERESTING MAN !!!
WILL CHANGE THE TITLE OF THIS VIDEO TO JUST "WEBBER" THEN, AND NOT FAURE' , BASED ON YOUR WORDS.......

***** Thank you for your response; glad you've experienced substantial performances by Ms. Evancho, among others. ALSO, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DIVERSE AND EXTENSIVE CHANNELS! :) LET US TRY TO KEEP AN EYE ON THEM! There are a number of talented and inspiring young people who have given remarkable - even amazing performances; I hesitate to start to mention some, lest I inadvertently neglect others, but I've commented on quite a few on my channel, and might be coaxed to list several on a less rainy eve when my brain cells are less soggy :)

GAVE MY GRANDFATHER "MY FAIR LADY" ON DVD, FOR HIS 100th BIRTHDAY - GOT IT BACK A YEAR AND A HALF LATER WHEN HE DIED - AND JUST FINALLY GOT AROUND TO SEEING "GIGI", SAW IT FOR A DISCOUNT PRICE IN A CATALOG, AND I GOT IT FOR MY NEIGHBOR GIRL, WHO IS NAMED GIGI, BUT THEN AFTER WATCHING IT, THOUGHT I BETTER NOT GIVE IT TO HER........NOT SURE IF I AGREE ABOUT THOSE 2 PLAYING THOSE ROLES THOUGH, THEY WOULD BE GREAT, AS USUAL, BUT I WOULD RATHER SEE THEM STICK TO SINGING WHILE THEY ARE YOUNG, AFTER LOSING KATHARINE McPHEE TO SILLY ACTING ROLES, SINCE SHE IS OBSESSED WITH ACTING, I THINK SHE IS NOT FULLY REALIZING THAT SHE IS A WORLD CLASS SINGER.....

Avideogal, Faure composed a beautiful Requiem that contains a "Pie Jesu" (as most Requiems do). A Requiem is a Mass for the Repose of souls that have passed on. In this case, it is in musical form, but churches also celebrate Requiems that are spoken. The "Pie Jesu" and "Agnus Dei" is combined in Weber's version, which is unusual; they are usually two different movements, as they are in Faure's Requiem. You can find more information in any online music dictionary. Hope this helps clears up the confusion!

NO, NOT AT ALL, THANKS FOR TRYING, BUT YOU JUST CONFUSED ME MORE......... SO WHO EXACTLY WROTE THIS PIECE THAT HAMILL SKATES TO, SO I CAN GET THE TITLE RIGHT, FAURE, WEBBER, OR TRADITIONAL, OR WHATEVER ???
AS YOU CAN SEE I HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR THE COMPOSERS, CAUSE I THINK I MAY BE THE ONLY ONE ON YOU TUBE THAT INSISTS ON LISTING THEM FIRST, ON ALL MY VIDEOS, ABOVE THE PERFORMERS, SO I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT, FOR SURE, IF FAURE, OR WEBBER, OR WHOEVER WROTE THIS GREAT PIECE...........
FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER, FROM WHAT YOU SAID, IT SEEMS A TRADITIONAL PIECE THAT THEY BOTH USED IN THEIR REQUIEMS ???

Hi -- the Pie Jesu is from a medieval poem called the Dies Irae which has been used historically as part of a Catholic Requiem Mass. There are many settings of this text; the most famous, perhaps, is by Gabriel Faure. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the one that Dorothy Hamill is skating to in the video above (and his once wife, Sarah Brightman, is singing it). It has also become quite well known in recent years.

***** HEY, now you can believe the persistent old musicologist from Ohio State University! :) Even though Gabriel Fauré wrote a nice REQUIEM [You can see and hear the whole thing on CZcams, conducted by Robert Shaw ... The whole thing only lasts 36 minutes], it was in the late 1880s French style, and Andrew Lloyd Webber might as well get his rightful credit here :)
