    I want to be a joker and act like the hard core Doo fans from last year's shootout. "I wonder how much Doo paid these guys off to be crowned 'the winner'!"
    But to be serious, the real winners are the customers. What I've seen in the last 20 years since Polaris invented mountain sleds is an explosion in technology and ever increasing reliability. No, none are perfect but they are getting better all the time. The curve of improvement for sleds is way higher than any other motor sports out there and they are way better than even just a few years ago. In reality, all these sleds are a blast to ride on and it comes down to personal preference. If you have the time and money to enjoy this sport, be thankful and grateful for it, because there aren't that many who can. Peace to all my fellow riders and please be safe out there. We count on each other in the back country, you know!

      The ski doo is 10 pounds heavier then the polaris, and the ski doo has more power all through the powerband according to dynotech, 850 vs 850 that is. And it has a better track OEM, it is less nose heavy, 25 pounds less nose heavy according to a swedish magazine. It has perfect 50/50 weight distribution between the skies and it has the most advanced 2 stroke engine and clutch in the industry. The new 850 patriot resembles the engines polaris used back in 2005 with slight upgrade, hence the bad powerband

I get that trail sleds are a big thing in North America but if you think of other places in the "real world" like Scandinavia and Asia they would probably give a compleatly different answer.
      I cand tell you for a fact that there aren't many people who ride trail sleds in Scandinavia (mostly cause the trails aren't as well kept as in Canada or the US) and a good sled here would not be the ones you think are the best. I can also say the "real world" part is becoming less and less of a factor. Most people by Snowmobiles now adays not to travel to winter activities but rather to be the winter activity. Decent comparison, and i agree that the ski-doo should get the nod - however it would be nice for customers comparing these models to know:
    1. You failed to mention the biggest reason for the handling difference between the sleds - the ski stance (42 inch vs 36 inch). Riders should know that the pro can be narrowed if a more tippy attitude is desired. Understanding that you are comparing the stock machines.
    2. The doo will wash out way before the pro for many reasons, mostly the tmotion.
    3. Ski doo fit and finnish is nice, but its a noodle. The bulkhead is still very weak (everyone runs a brace kit)... the running boards flexy... it just feels like a pop can
    4. There are still major ski-doo belt problems
    5. The polaris gauge package makes the doo look really bad. You didnt mention the calculator screen on the doo, or the fact that GPS is available on the pro
    6. The doo has a better track (in my opinion) due to the longer pitch between paddles. Trenches less.
    I ride a pro but i also like throwing a leg over my buddies 850. You really cant go wrong with either. Looking forward to trying the new cat too.

    Kyle, I think, maybe U should talk to someone who makes a living rebuilding BRP motors! Specifically their shitty crank shafts, good money to be made because after 5000km the cranks begin to self destruct! Polaris has had issues with the 2012 and 2013 piston reliability but more recent engines seem to be free from previous glitches. The most reliable 800 engine is actually the Arctic Cat which is never mentioned in any of these write ups. Yes the Cat burns more fuel and oil but unlike the BRP it isn't like riding a hand grenade with the pin pulled! I hope the new 850 is better, but realistically it would be hard to be any worst than the 800 from the early 2000's to the latest Etec 800 with greased crank bearings! Fingers crossed for BRP's latest offerings as they have finally realized that 12,000km is not reasonable life expectancy!

I don't know about the 155, there is not many people here that have sks 155. Funny how you are comparing the two mountain sleds with the two longest tracks but said nothing about traction whatsoever, the. 175 850 has way more traction and on a bottomless day, on any hill the 850 will be the first over the top or the highest high mark, due to its insane traction.

    My real life experience is I see Polaris 800's burning down at around 1500 miles. There are some after market kits with longer pistons and a cylinder spacer that fixes that problem. but
    stock, Polaris 800's are unreliable.

    I tell ya, i will take a new 850 over the Polaris, no matter how good it is, the motor isn’t. I’m willing to take on the extra 40lbs to have reliability on my side. This is coming from a Polaris owner and just testing even the old XM chassis for 10 minuets in the mountains. Cause I really don’t feel like putting another $3,600 into my sled with only 1,100 miles on it.

    • @WilliamStewart1
      @WilliamStewart1 Před 6 lety +2

      Kyle Fitzgerald If you care about reliability, Polaris and Arctic cat are definitely superior in that area. The Skidoo engines don't last long on an average basis.
