    If you want to see the true result of a test my sidewinder taillight is available 7 days a week. But the the assault would be my second choice. Depends on the trails and conditions you want to ride.

    They are all great sleds and made to be enjoyed whatever your preference is, ive tried the 4 strokes i found them a bit on the heavy side for me as i get older and hauling them over to carve isnt nearly as easy as my 16 rmk, the sleds coming out of the factories these days are incredible and its only when you really start nit picking that you find small things that you yourself might not like but that may not bother the next guy/girl at all so check them all out and find the one that works for you and go hard.

    My last 2 sleds have been renegade backcountry but my next will definitely be the switchback assault. Definitely the best overall sled in this group

    I love ski doo but it looked to me the the switch back should of won for one reason..... It's an all around sled it can do more then the mxzx

    • @richardlebar6006
      @richardlebar6006 Před 6 lety +1

      I don't understand why these put the mxz x and assualt against each other in the first place. Assault and a backcountry makes sense.... but mxz x not so much.
      At the end of the day, the Polaris and Skidoo are both at the top of the food chain right now. Go with what you like, you won't really lose. And if you want a 4 stroke non utility sled, go cat or yammy. Personally, I'm partial to e-tec and therefore will choose BRP.

    I cant blame SnowTrax for picking SkiDoo and Polaris for the final two in this 2017 shoot out. They are their biggest sponsors. If they didn't pic them it would be hard on their sponsorship revenue next year. I couldn't disagree more on these choices. However.... I will keep enjoying these reviews even though they are biased for obvious reasons. Keep up the amazing work Cat and Yamaha.

    • @bobhirdes6725
      @bobhirdes6725 Před 7 lety +4

      every time I hear this ignorant excuse as to why a particular snowmobile won is because of sponsorship is completely false and a lie. The editors of snowtrax don't say well, Ski-Doo and Polaris gave us a lot of sponsor dollars so were just going to award them with 1st and second place. This lame ass excuse comes from ignorant and unintelligent people that want to blame someone or something for their brand not winning. Ski-Doo's New 850 Etec in the GEN 4 chassis won fair and square and is the reason SKI-DOO will continue to dominate the awards and market share in sleds sold. SKI-DOO RULES AND EVERYONE ELSE DROOLS! 2nd, 3rd and 4th place sucks hind titty!

      Ummmm Yamaha is shit and artic cats are low quality. Skidoo pioneered rider forward and other brands just copied, but at the end of the day skidoo invented the snowmobile and knows whats up. Polaris makes other products but they were making great snowmobiles before arctic cat or yamaha. I have a Yamaha saxophone. I don't want a company that makes pianos making my sled.

  • @masonsorensen3744
    @masonsorensen3744 Před 6 lety +1

    These snowtrax people never dive deep enough, I believe they are actually biast to Skidoo and Polaris, the fact is the arctic cat 900 has clutch problems with higher milage belts and shreds belts, and mile for mile I would say the Yamaha sidewinder is the best all around, this sled has oodles of power and torque, it makes ground breaking performance, and has over all pretty good performance, it could use single keel skis, because the dual keel sidewinder skis create a little bit of heavy steering, but its the first year and will have some little issues that need to be worked out, but that is to be expected by any brand, the sled is expensive due to the motor and turbo, but I would say mile to mile it is definitely deserving of the title, the Yamaha will run longer than any 2 stroke I think they are basing the categories around things the 4 stoke can't meet, like weight, which doest matter if you have a better power to weight ratio anyway. This is such bull shit I'm officially done watching these, I should have been done a long time ago.

    I would definitely take the Artic cat is is the smoothest baddest and sharpest looking sled in my opinion of all of them with the better skis and handling over Yamaha which I have always been a loyal Yamaha Rider since the four strokes came out. The wieght is not any issue, as the RTXs from 10 years ago flew flat and balanced. If looks was a category, that ski Doo would be dead last, in my opinion, it looks like an old Elan from the 1970s!

      The 2 stroke Cat engine while reliable is dirty and old. I'm guessing they chose the 4 stroke because it was the better option over the old Cat 2 stroke. I'm guessing next year with the new Ctec2 the results will be better for Cat.

    Great review! Im not a biased rider as I have 3 of the 4 brands in my garage. But I have to say that, over the year I have heard zero issues with the Polaris Assault and have heard of many with the Ski Doo. And I have a 2015 Pro X and a 2016 MXZ XRS 800. So Im happy they both went toe to toe. Why you didnt test a Sidewinder LTX LE with the way better shock package is weird. But with the Ski Doo having belt issues, bulkhead issues makes me wonder??? I have heard of many complaining about this new 850 and there Ski Doo faithful! The Axys however has been great! To me the Assault should of been the hands down winner here!

      Ski doo is a 2 stroke. Extra power of 4 stroke turbo is almost cancelled out by its weight. That is, power to weight ratio of 2 stroke is a bit better. However yamaha claims stock hp of 4 stroke turbo is 180. They are actually around 205.

    Still belt drive/ clutch technology? WTF? Spend all this time on 4 stroke/ turbo bla bla. but still have the same technology when it comes to the drive.
    Does the new generation even know what it is like to break a trail through the bush? Got to go slow, unless you want to total your brand new sled on a tree, over a cliff,sink the 1000 pound pig in the bottom of a swamp or whatever! Is there even any practical sleds out there anymore?

      well they wanted polaris to win, so they had to eliminate some. But I agree with you there, I got to rip one around an oval track last year, and it is an insane lake racer and im sure it's the same on trail. Not really my style though, I need something for off trail riding, so currently, I have a 09' Renegade 600 Mod sled with the rs race motor in it. badass sled for my type of riding

  • @heatmoon

    Did you mention "biased" when you were talking about the Polaris? Snowtrax understands engines so well it says the Arctics engine is like a Cummins diesel and Lamborghini. Keep selli g those Doo's boys. I happen to know your "neutral" bull works. My bro has bought 2 800 secs and 1 600. How could 4 stroke weight drops sled to 3rd, by that logic no 4 stroke would ever win. I had a Nytro, they are spool heavy, but if you know how to handle it, you will not have a problem in open areas. Try it on a narrow river with fallen trees, you're walking home for a winch.

  • @burnzillablue

    The Sidewinder is the best sled out there right now, its light, crazy fast, reliable and great looking. Yammy has changed the game. Ski-Doo has shaky build quality and many little problems as you wear them down...great chassis, good motor, but not the best sled overall.

    • @KANATADOMPIZ
      @KANATADOMPIZ Před 7 lety +2

      light? You must be a world class powerlifter. 700 lbs wet is not light by any stretch. More to snowmobiling than being first one across the lake.

    • @burnzillablue
      @burnzillablue Před 7 lety

      The Viper/Sidewinder are only about 50 lbs heavier then the same class 800.

    • @burnzillablue
      @burnzillablue Před 7 lety

      The Viper/Sidewinder are not much heavier then the comparative two strokes, 40-70 lbs.

    • @KANATADOMPIZ
      @KANATADOMPIZ Před 7 lety

      American snowmobiler has the wet weights of the Yamaha Sidewinder at 671 and Ski-Doo Renegade at 597. 75 lbs is alot of extra weight on the nose of the sled. Don't get me wrong seems like a good sled but I sat on it and it seems HUGE compared to the Gen4. Thats alot of sled to be manhandling in deep pow or moving around on tight Twisties.

    • @bobhirdes6725
      @bobhirdes6725 Před 7 lety +1

      wrong burnzillablue, the sidewinder is not light compared to a 2 stroke engine, it is fast because it has a fricking turbo on it! disconnect the turbo and that sidewinder would be a slug. Ski-Doo does not have build quality problems and this bullshit myth that you fans of other brands keep repeating is a f...ing lie. If Ski-Doo had such bad build quality as you say the buying public would certainly know about it and they wouldn't buy Ski-Doo. The Sidewinder is fast in a straight line but wouldn't stand a chance against the Ski-Doo in the tight twisties and know it. SKI-DOO is #1 in market share for a reason, the public trusts them more than any sled on snow.

    I don't understand the allure of a short track sled anymore, they're useless. Why would you want to limit yourself to a baby track when even a wimpy 800 2 stroke has problems putting the power down through them? My Sidewinder spins like no tomorrow and that's back when I had the 141 2.25" powerclaw, I could only imagine how horrible the 129 would be.

  • @stevefilley9765
    @stevefilley9765 Před 7 lety

    here we go again your putting a 144 track to 3 -129s in. track and everyone knows and reported the 137in. turbos perform better with the longer track to balance out the weight. also this year everyone is now saying the 850 last year the suspension isn't up to standard and the front end didn't live up to the hype. and it's tall center of gravity made inside ski lift. now I will pick your 2018 sled of the year will be the renegade 850 with all of the new calibration changes this year. bla bla bla. make it real stop the BS.

    MXZ X WITH 850 IS SNOWTRAX REAL WORLD SLED OF THE YEAR
    Each year, the tough editors at SnowTrax TV and SuperTrax magazine name a sled that would be their choice for every day riding - the Real World Sled of the Year. For the 2017 model year, they unanimously chose the MXZ X with 850 E-TEC engine.
    It is the 5th time a Ski-Doo sled has won. They said:
    “absolutely the best on-trail sled you can buy.”
    “The E-TEC 2 power package is a stump-puller...the most endearing quality of this motor is how smooth and well controlled it is...it’s an effortless engine to drive.”
    “...rMotion is to be blunt, the best rear suspension system-ever.”

    I think you guys may have got it wrong. In the new day of "4 Stroke" "Green" motorsports..... you should focus on the massive improvements, successes that Yamaha and Cat have made in strides. They have brought the best tech to the market in 4 stroke turbo's and you pass it off like nothing? Shame on you guys. Really.
