Issues Already with 2020 Jeep Gladiator

- Well, this is frustrating! My new Jeep Gladiator with 3k miles on it is already giving me problems. WHAT?! I love Jeeps and have owned 4 Wranglers prior to this one but this is disheartening. It started with a leaking valve cover gasket which ruined the oxygen sensor, then the back up camera and now more check engine lights. What is going on here? Let's see what happens when I take it to the dealer next time.

Why would you buy a gladiator to pull boats for a living? That's the first question. Secondly, the dealer will give you another truck if you ask, especially considering you've already had issues. And third, if I spent $40+k on a NEW truck, I am not touching ANYTHING...they can fix any and every issue while it is under warranty. I'm also a very busy person, but I would not have driven 1200+ miles while I have known issues with my vehicle. You could have potentially been doing more damage by doing so.... Just my 2 cents, take from that what you will.
I almost bought a 2020 rubicon gladiator yesterday and came across this !
What model gladiator do you have?
Not sure if I should pull the trigger now
Hey Danny, I have a Sport S. I have 2 other relatives with Gladiators and they have had zero issues. I would definitely buy another at this point felling confident this is a one off.
Thanks for the feedback
I love the look of the Gladiator and was going to buy one of these. I hope all these things work out for you ASAP
Thank you.
I hate hearing when Gremlins pop up. I’ve got 10k miles and have yet to have a single issue (knock on wood). Best of luck, but I’d almost trade it in as it might just be a lemon.
Thanks T.B.
That’s Sucks Mo good luck getting it fixed
What size boat do you Tow? I was considering buying a Gladiator for backup Tow vehicle (07 Tundra) but I think I'll go another route...
Hi DJ JD, I tow a 16’ flats boat. I would guess it’s probably 2,000lbs boat, motor, trailer and great.
So did you have the camshaft TSB as well? My gladiator is having the camshaft/lifters/rockers replaced at 160 miles, literally the first weekend i bought it, i get it back tomorrow with a free set off offroad wheels and tires, so im not mad anymore
No, not at all. Thank God! I hope you get yours resolved.
That's a great deal, 👏
I have a 2023 Jeep gladiator sport only 1200 miles , check engine light came on today and code was multiple cylinder miss fire. And now I’m reading all these comments and different videos. It’s sound very common which is crazy.
It is crazy. I just got rid of my Gladiator after constant electrical issues. I’ll post a video about it soon. So very frustrating!
Man, you are between and rocking a hard place I'm so sorry. Hope everything works out for the best. Lynn and Danny
Thank you. So far, seems like the are resolved.
2020 gladiator 12/22 washed the engine with high pressure, and later on, the engine started by itself the alarm on twice. Seems like water can do false contact with the electronics. Have done the same with other vehicles that I owned, and this is the first time this has happened to me .
I am sorry to hear about your issues. I know it is not fun since I am in the same boat just with different vehicle. I bought new 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. For the last 2.5 years I visited my dealership here in Minnesota so many time I lost count. I just finished my 2nd recall. Out of the door my car started losing cruse control, vehicle detection radar functions etc... when it rained. It took me a year of complaining before Toyota announced radar recall. They installed the "radar shield". It improved the situation, but I still have issues when it rains or snows hard (and it happens to be 6 months here in Minnesota). I recorded the issue on my phone and showed it to the dealer.... and they don't care.
Second issue was my passenger side turn signals stopped working when temperature goes over 70F. I went 4 times back to couple dealers. I called Toyota of North America and had case open with them (it means nothing really, since they did not care either). Finally after 2 years they found grounding wire in my left mirror was broken from the factory. Dealer tried to charge me for that and kept asing if the car was even in any kind of accident. My car is in perfect condition not a scratch on it.
Third issue was my car would not want to turn off completely and would stay in accessory mode. Also, my navigation would crash when it is cold (well 6 months here in Minnesota). After they did software upgrade the problem was gone (for now).
Then I got call from local Toyota dealer that I have to drop off my vehicle for fuel pump recall. It would disintegrate at higher speeds (highway). Now, i am waiting what is next.
And I forgot to say that every time I needed to drop my car at the dealer to fix issues (car is covered under Mfg. warranty) I would either have to 1) argue with them to give me loaner vehicle (it is not my fault) 2) rent loaner vehicle from them 3) wait in the dealership (you get a free shuttle within 11 miles radius). I could not sit at the dealer and miss my work....
To summarize I am on my last Toyota. It is not as reliable and myth has it. And I am not the only one experiencing issues with Tacoma. Go to Tacoma forums and you will see.
Hence, don't feel bad about your Jeep issues other trucks are not any better.
Wow, that is horrible to read and I'm so sorry you're going through those constant and significant issues. I am really surprised since Toyota has always been known for quality. Those really are serious issues. I hope you get them fixed. I guess a last resort is trying to negotiate a buy back/trade in even if it takes an attorney. I really hope Toyota and the dealership step up for you.
@@sweetcamperlife8370 Thanks. I have/had multiple vehicles. Sad thing is that my Porsche 911 Turbo was more reliable in the 1st 30k miles than my Tacoma in the same period. And Porsches are not know for reliability. Even my Peugeot that I had in Europe was more reliable than Tacoma. And people in Europe make fun of Peugeot reliability.
I am looking for daily driver replacement for Tacoma. I relay want off road capable truck (in Europe we don't get to drive trucks since we don't have as much space as here in USA). I find your videos very useful.
@@im-oc4jrIt's surprising your Porsche was more reliable than your Tacoma. I had a Tacoma for about two years with no issues but we know there's always an odd ball out there. Glad you've found our videos useful, thank you for watching!
So sorry to hear this. I have had my 2020 Gladiator Rubicon with 7900 miles on it with no issues except today my horn does not sound when I turn on the alarm. I bought it in November 2019 through 2 Minnesota winters, but don’t drive a lot.
Thanks Art. I suspect you won't have issues with yours. Those Rubicons are awesome. Enjoy it!
Update: The alarm horn issue was because I had dealer install aux switch bank and the battery was disconnected for this. The alarm key fob had to be reset. Easy fix no cost. My Gladiator does have an annoying vibration at idle. I feel it at lights and idling. Vibration is in arm rest, so I think it’s a driveshaft issue. Currently at 9500 miles now with no series issues like this.
I have a 2020 Rubicon. Almost 30000 miles zero issues. Averaging 20 MPG…. I love it…
Gas or diesel?
How are you getting 20 mpg I have a 2023 and I don’t with too much enthusiasm and I can’t get past 17.5
I know lots of people with gladiators and wranglers with many miles and zero problems. Good luck!
Thanks Mark! Yeah, I agree, from my experience most have zero problems.
m one of them.I have a stock gladiator with zero problems. Sometimes things happem. You need to get in to service.
Scotty Kilmer was right!
2021 gladiator, at 13k miles had to get my cam shaft replaced and the lifter springs, then at 20k had to get my cam shaft replaced again and my bank 1 cam shaft sensor.. now it looses power on the smallest hill on the highway, can't get above 65mph, manual transmission, from 4th up to 6th, pedal to the floor won't get above 65mph (4th 65mph, 5th 55mph and 6th 40mph)... not so happy.
What's it like now?
My Gladiator broke down after 360km with electronic issues. 7 months later, it has broken down 5 times. I’ve actually used it for 1 month, the rest it has spend in different dealerships but they offer no solutions…
What engine u have??
Lease to buy a 2020 jt for that reason expecting for bad reviews. The very first problem was the start stop light dealer installed new 2nd battery and up to now I Have had no problems at all . It is the sport model with mx towing capacity 34's tires and rino wheels, 14k miles on it , ram air intake steel bumper and warn winch. So far I'm impressed because it feels reliable with power. 14 miles per gallon its my concern. Other than that I did my research for the engine and transmission and actually they have good reviews.
Sounds like you have a nice set up! Once the issues were warrantied I have had zero issues as well. However, the start stop seems to work when it wants to so I usually turn it off. Glad you're having a good experience with your Jeep.
I got recent news (08/13/2021) that the “new” engine needs to be opened to replace faulty gaskets and other unspecified parts and that Jeep authorized the parts that were already ordered. It is obvious that Jeep will not exchange the unit. Consider that in Puerto Rico you pay a significantly higher price than in other US jurisdictions for the same vehicle. I ended paying a total of $71,995.00 including a $3;500.00 additional extended warranty (Mopar Vehicle Protection Plan). As I said before I bought this car back in November 29, 2019 and it still has 786 miles on the odometer. The majority of these have been consumed in trips back and forth to the dealer’s service department and by their personnel in road tests during its stay in service.
Thanks for your empathy!
Dang Alejandro, that’s kind of good news that Jeep will warranty there parts/labor to resolve the issue but sucks that they won’t replace the Jeep altogether. Seems like it’s really difficult for a manufacturer to replace a unit unless the issues are so severe. I would be going nuts if I were in your shoes. Hopefully the dealer does the work and all of this is over for you and you get to enjoy your Jeep. Keep us posted and good luck.
Sorry to hear that man. That’s terrible. The pentastar engines are generally pretty good (my jl has been treating me well)... but anything can happen I guess
Thank you. Yes, the Pentastar engine is reliable. Seems I got one with a few hiccups.
Damn man, that sucks. I feel for you. I went through the cylinder head issues (misfire codes on various cylinders) with my 2015 JKUR and so many visits before it was replaced. Would never give me a loaner vehicle. Now I hear 5 years later this will probably happen with my my 2020 JTR. This engine has been around for ages, why has it not been fixed. I guess case by case fixes are cheaper than recalls.
Wow Jason that stinks. I agree, this engine has been in the Jk since 2012 so why is it so happening. You may be right, cheaper to fix on a case by case basis.
@@sweetcamperlife8370 I wonder how many people have been screwed post warranty?
@@jasunto I've wondered about that and I've decided not to "build it up" in part because of that. I don't want to dump a few thousand into a vehicle I may trade in because of issues or void the warranty because of some mod that shouldn't affect it.
You gotta wonder is it just the computer or is it really a cylinder misfiring? too many damn sensors. Every light is on in my Honda Pilot but that hasn't stopped me from taking it to Florida and back to Kentucky twice (10 hr and 14 hour). They say I need a new computer for $3k. Every time I replace one electronic component another component fails. That's why I'm looking for a new ride: Tacoma or Gladiator? I feel better about the Tacoma, but the Gladiator is super sick.
I had the same problem oil leak onto o2 sensor at 1000 miles 🤦♀️
It’s a Shame what fiat Chrysler has done with Jeep. I hope you get this figured out
Thank you!
Nothing you could fix? Didn't notice oil leaking bad enough to flood out your o2 sensors?
Hi RB Artistry. Yeah this issue remains a mystery. I saw no oil leak of any kind. The dealer that warrantied it stated it was an oils leak from the valve cover but my neighborhood dealer where I take it for routine maintenance stated they have never heard of that in a new or even newer vehicle. Could the dealer that warrantied it while I was out of town replace the sensor and claimed something else for a larger claim? Not sure.
Name vehicle make/model, first generation or model redigan that has had no issue...perfect off the line. There will be bugs on every single vehicle out there, may not be every...single....one, unfortunately you have one. I have a 2020 JTR with 20k and a ‘21 JT with the 3.0...so far no problems on either. Hope it gets fixed.
Yeah, agreed. Thank you. Hopefully this week it'll get resolved and be done with the surprises.
What size boat are you towing?
16' Hewes
My issue with the back camera it’s aimed too low to where it picks up your tag lights I was thinking of tilting mine up I looked into it took a razor blade gently and cut around access panel in the undercoating and what it is on the housing there’s a horseshoe clip behind it fits flush slides into the grooves your clip must’ve somehow not been installed correctly and seated properly imagine that 🙃with that being said I was unable to adjust because of the flush fit on the back holds it snug.
Hey NoPro, my backup camera broke off it's bracket and I just took it back to the dealer for warranty. I seemed like an easy enough fix but heck, let them do it under warranty.
525 miles and I'm in the same "boat" as you. Thank god I don't need it for work. But, getting back to you. Can't, the dealer get you a rental truck instead?
Hi Andrew, thankfully the issues have ben resolved so far. I did buy the extended Mopar warranty (zero interest, making the monthly installment payments I can cancel at any time) just in case stuff starts to go wrong again. The touch screen is now acting up so that's next on the list.
same thing happening to me. now the dealer says in order for me to leave it at the dealer and for them to rent me a vehicle it needs to be completely broken! not driving at all. and my jeep its a 2022 still under warranty. miamilakes automall its a pain in the butt!
My 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, 2 door, 2L turbo, has 21k miles on it,
has never been off road and has had all of the following problems:
Replacement of metal gasket that failed leaving me stranded with no coolant.
Pinched wires causing the internal lights to malfunction.
Check engine light due to a CO2 sensor failing.
Recall on the steering wheel gear box replaced.
Recall for possible leaking gas lines.
Auto start stop failure caused a replacement with many visits to the shop:
Auxiliary battery.
Main computer.
Electronics module.
Alternator.
Many miles added to the Jeep during test drives by the certified Jeep dealer.
To solve the problem they just replaced the Main battery and gave it back to me.
...
Something is still drawing on the battery and it is just a matter of time until it fails again.
Seems like the auto start stop is a recurring issue. I've had to have both batteries replaced twice by the dealer and two other Jeep owners I know have had the same issue. According to the dealer, the main issue is the battery placed too close to the exhaust causing the batteries to "cook".
Has a similar issue on my 2020 freight liner cascada at 3500 miles also. 2020 not a good production year that’s all.
Yeah I’m seeing quality issues on all kinds of products made during the pandemic.
FCA build quality is getting worse, i know i have one too. wait until the french run FCA when they finish the buying out. reliability is going to plummet sadly.
So sad to see that happening.
Not just FCA but some new cars. I had a tard 2017 honda crv what a piece of junk. Transmission had a very small leak. Driver window will make noise and roll down on its on. The gear shift button exploded. Then i find out my crv and many others of that year had a oil diluted problem were fuel will mix in with the oil. Thanks god it was a lease. Got a 2020 JL so far no problems but i was scared because i never bought a american car. But if the Japanese brand made bad cars sometimes i figured its the roll of the dice. Went with a 3.6 since it's FCA bread and butter engine and since they've been making it for over 10 years. Everyone who buys a new car is rolling that dice 🎲.
This definitely seems like a lemon, mixed with not the right use for the truck. Glad they fixed it though.
Im at 24,000 miles. No issues and has been dependable. Sorry to hear what’s happened
Thank you. Glad yours is OK. After the warranty repairs it's been perfect so far. Thanks for watching.
Gas or diesel?
You'll get it resolved
Thank you.
Oh man you got your self a lemon. I never had a jeep and got a 2020 jlu i was worried about problems so far no problems. Sucks man dealing with this with low miles
Thanks. I suspect you won't have issues. I just got a "special" one.
Anyone else notice their automatic JT engine overheating? My 2021 Jeep Gladiators engine gets really hot and not from highway driving or off road. Just driving 10 miles to the store and back. 🤔Also heater gets really hot to the point the plastic vents feel like they could actually melt and that's on the lowest setting.
Not me I have not noticed that at all. I do a lot of towing and tend to check my engine and transmission temperature and everything is always on point.
Unfortunately Fiat is not known for quality control but I'm confident that they will take care of you.
Lol!! Yes keep spending your Money on them. Eventually one day they will finally figure out the quality thang.
You’re scaring me! I just purchased a 2021 Gladiator Mojave!
Naw, I bet money you'll be alright. Seems like I got a one off but all is better now after the warranty work.
Sounds like that truck was built on a Monday or Friday.....my mojave has lived off-road since I bought it and it's been a beast with no issues....I hope you get this all resolved
Thanks Ronny.
At my last oil service I was informed there was an update intended to cover phantom check engine lights .....
Definitely get it done. My dealer says it's common but it resolves that check engine light.
Do they still crack windshields or that has been addressed?
I've never had a wind shield crack except when a rock hit in while highway driving. Most vehicles with a windshield like the Jeeps, G Wagons, etc... will have issues with rocks damaging the wind shield.
@@sweetcamperlife8370 Yeah, it’s the flat glass wall + high speeds that is sooo hard on glass, I watched another Jeep channel that showed a “flexible glass” windshield for Jeep what withstands impacts. (Not sure about the dot rating)
I hear Gorilla glass is available

My Gladiator only made it 1067 miles and total electrical power loss. Took dealer 11 days to find main fuse block short. Dealer tried to blame it on my aux additions total bs. Sure wasn't a confidence building experience.
Wow that sucks. Seems like some are coming from the factory with some issues while most have no issues. Send like mostly electrical issues.

I just bought a an ecodiesel Rubicon 3 weeks ago it has 677 miles . It's now at the dealer no headlights or blinkers and no powersteering . Just a bit surprised and pissed I traded 2 working vehicles
Hey James, that stinks man especially with a brand new vehicle. Once my issues got fixed it's been smooth sailing since with no new problems. Hopefully this is an isolated issue for you. Good luck!
That's OK in 20 years none of those vehicles will be on the road
I'm on my second Gladiator, I missed my 2020 Gladiator and regretted getting rid of it so 7 months later I bought a 2021 and glad I did because they have a new steering box now, steel instead of the previous aluminum box that would flex causing severe wondering/loose steering. I think the 2021 Gladiator Rubicon I have is by far the best value of any auto I have ever bought, the quality of materials used, the vehicles diverse uses, feels like a jeep but have the use of a bed payload, I've towed a rather large boat and I have 40' tires still running the factory 4:10 gears and that 8 speed is fantastic.
Glad to hear you got the steel steering box. Those 4:10 gears makes a difference both towing and when you go with bigger tires. A part of me misses my JKU Rubican but definitely love my Gladiator. Welcome back to the family!
Right on! Just bought mine this money and was a bit hesitant hearing all there negative comments throughout CZcams. Glad to know those steering issuers were resolved
I just bought the Mojave and I love it!
@@JohnDoe-nz6bk how's it holding up? I'm looking at either a gladiator (not sure what trim) or a Tacoma. I've only ever had hondas and toyotas and only have good things to say about both. @@gmoney5947 it's holding up pretty good.. The gas mileage is horrible though! 13mpg
I wouldn't think you would have gone with a Gladiator, if you were going to tow regularly, something a bit larger, with an 8 cylinder engine or diesel perhaps.
They actually have a model with the diesel but I believe it's an extra $6k
My 2012 head gasket blown cylinder trade it in for 2019 and same happened yesterday. Can no longer run with jeep. 5 jeep I’ve owned. My yj never any issues..... wtf

I have a 2020 jeep gladiator. I've had several issues and my dealer sucks
Hey Mitchell, sorry to hear about the dealer issue. The reality is that a poor dealership can make a situation worst. Maybe try another dealer in the area or call Jeep directly for intervention?
You have a bsd dealer go somewhere else , oil on a o2 sensor from a leaking valve cover causing issues I dought it I been doing mechanics for years and never heard that
Thank you Joshua.
Don’t let them know you’re using it commercially or it might change the warranty
Thank you!
I have 2018 jlu, and 2021 gladiator. No issues with them, except steering. . sounds like warranty issue, maybe a a lemon 🍋
There's a free fix at the dealer for the steering.
I'm looking at two trucks right now: The Gladiator and the Tacoma. I've never owned a jeep and I know that they have issues...but when you take a vehicle off road your going to have issues, but those issues shouldn't be a leaky gasket...damn......my mom has always had Honda's and has never had a honda that caused problems. Every honda she's had she's put 250k miles before ever having any major issues. So maybe I shouldn't rule out the Ridgline (or even the F-150). I don't want a dodge and the GMC 1500 is sweet but I think I'm getting out of my price range.

Imagine what’s going to happen when your warranty is up transmission engine blow up. Sell it while you can. You. BOught a fiat
I don't understand that you tow for a living and you bought a mid-size truck with only 6000lb rating?
Hi Richard, my daily towing weight is about 2,000 lbs. If any midsized pickup with an advertised 6k towing capacity has issues with this towing demand than there are bigger engineering or marketing issues than me towing 2k lbs almost daily.
@@sweetcamperlife8370 True.I only heard towing for a living, and thought the Gladiator was pretty limited.sorry.
No worries Richard. I admit, I think better than I communicate most of the time. LOL Thanks for watching. BTW, thankfully once Jeep warratined the issues it's been smooth sailing now and I'm up to 21k miles.
Next time get a Tundra for that money.
I have bought 3 new trucks and all them have been like this I’ve lost over 40000 dollars from trading and I now have a Jeep gladiator if I’m going to have to fix one it might as well be one I can work on lol
Some food for thought....My wife and I have now our 4th Toyota. I got a Tundra in Aug 2020. Now has 5 000 kms on it and not one issue. We had an 04 Corolla...was towed once when fuel pump failed. It went to 330 000 kms and was never towed again. We traded it in for a 16 RAV 4. RAV has 110 000 kms and only issue was one cracked windshield. I also had a 13 Tacoma...traded for my Tundra. It had 170 000 kms and in 7.5 years it never was towed and never failed to start. The Tacoma towed our RV 10 000 kms across Canada...one oil change and a large amount of fuel. So, the 4 Toyotas we have owned have been way better than any GM or FORD I have had. I can tell you TOYOTA is the absolute best there is. Good luck with your JEEP. Buy a 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma. You should be way happier.
Thanks Mike! I agree, those Toyotas are bullet proof. I've had two and zero problems.

26k with no issues, wow.

Hey that's no problem just go and buy another one to solve the problem just keep getting another one and another one antill you get the right one like a lot of people l know they say like this shit no problem small brains suck it up it's your money Dodge Chrysler sheap they're happy with you.
Great insight. Keep up the good work. What would CZcams be without your priceless input? I dare not ponder the possibility. 👍
Sounds like you should have bought a Tacoma problem solved and with money to spare
Just get a Tundra 🤣
Get rid of it...
They should give u another one...
If not, get a attorney...😎
I was going to buy one. But I’ve decided to play safe and ended up buying a Subaru. Best decision ever.
Sad to say that jeep is just the look and just the hype.
That actually isn't true although many people only buy them for the look and the hype. Even an entirely stock Wrangler can easily go places your Subaru or my 4Runner couldn't get to right out of the box. Reliability and capability are entirely different things.
Jeep definately needs to get their quality control together...hopefully the Bronco release will work as motivation.
