- The French special operations unit, the GIGN, have a variety of weapons to choose from when out in the field, however they are never seen without their trusty, reliable and most of all, incredibly French Revolver!

They're probably ballistic at this point.
What's interesting about the sniper version of the Manurhin is that it was actually designed for one specific use : the Presidential Security Service, which is a sub-unit of the GIGN. The reason was that, when it was designed in the 70s I believe, they needed a gun that had sniper rifle qualities, like power and accuracy, but without the length, because one of the Presidential house had small windows pretty high up in which they wanted to put sharpshooters, but they all where in corridors with short clearance, so a full length rifle wouldn't fit.
The real reason they use Revolvers is, because if youre using a ballistic shield and semi auto pistol at the same time, you might cause the gun to malfunction. Like the shield blocking the slide from going forward, so you'd need two hands for chambering a new round. But you cant drop the shield cause its the only thing between you and your team and someone shooting at you. So there revolvers have a very narrow application specifically for counter terrorist units. Same reason smith and wesson came up with its TR88 Revolver for american swat teams.
Fuckin thank you
Yep, that's a good 50% of why, that's why (i don't remember who ordered that?) X or Y agency in the USA ordered a new revolver from S&W, the TRR8 since they had so many jams with their semi when used with a shield.
The other 50% is also fucking niche, like that you can modify the weight of the triggerpull without actualy lowering the force at which the hammer drop on the primer or that the MR73 is the toughest combat revolver ever made, even Korth & S&W TRR8.
GSG9 have the same reputation that they rarely use there weapons

Big up doc, rook, twitch and montagne 👍
@The Beast It has nothing to do with either. Post WW1 the French military did very little to modernize their equipment and tactics. They went to battle to fight WW1 era tactics and it cost them dearly. The German army of 1939 beat the French army of 1918.

If you get sniped by a revolver, you're getting teabagged without a doubt
it was a slur that they surrender way before The Simpsons.
Thank you so much for defending the French when it comes to surrender. Some people hold onto that ignorance so desperately, it's weird.
Correction, the weapon isn't "able to be customised as a sniper rifle", it was designed specifically for that role and is able to be "customised" outside of it. They had a building for which they needed sniper security to cover, but didn't have any room to place the sniper rifles. Their solution was this revolver with the bipod and scope. Everything outside of that role is secondary to being a sniper pistol for this gun. Most militaries would move building or modify the walkway, but the French decided on their sniper-pistol.
I mean...the concept of this revolver in use stands up well given their special tasks and the terrain in which they operate. A very unique tool and tactic well suited for GIGN.
The only French men who doesn’t get consistent surrender jokes
France has a terrifying military record, they were no joke up until they got lazy and got smoked by an encirclement maneuver through an allegedly impassible forest. If they didn’t stagnate and deteriorate they could have been an immovable object in WW2. (WW2 was likely where the stereotype comes from, as the push of the German forces through the Ardennes Forest rapidly overwhelmed the French forces. Not to mention that the French still carried messages like they had in previous wars which reduced their ability to respond compared to the newer radio communications. That combined with encirclement and blitzkreig tactics made the German forces a nightmare for the French military at that point in time.) TL;DR: France is really quite scary. Almost as intimidating as their language. Sorry for the mini history lesson, but quarantine has me watching way too much history channel.
The French surrendering thing is because in WW2 there was a point where they didn't shoot at the Germans because they were afraid they would shoot back. There was another battle where the French just decided to leave, not retreat, just leave.
I challenged you to find me any fucking country on Earth that didn't went full craven at one time or another, i'll wait.
Truth is, Brits & Americans can be viciously jelly of others, French bashing is a thing.
@The Warpten Show
One such instance is the Phony War (sorry France, you're in this one too), when the Western Allies declared war on Germany but didn't do much. Of course, it's obvious neither Britain nor France was ready for an offensive, but to this day some people are genuinely upset due to what their relatives/countrymen had to go through and endure due to this mistake, as I'll call it. But war is complicated, and honestly I don't have a better solution. So perhaps not a mistake but rather a strategic choice to make a sacrifice in the name of survival? A bit harsh to call it a sacrifice when it's not your blood shed or people killed, but if Britain had fallen it would mean whole Europe would've fallen, as it would've been near impossible for the Western Allies to land in mainland Europe without the British isles being a "forward base of operations" of sorts. Then the Soviets would've had to "liberate" whole of Europe and who knows how that would've ended, if it had. Yikes, alternate history screws with your brain a lot, doesn't it?
“you’re not even gonna have a go?” i love british people 😂

@@blackjack3599 Without France America wouldn't even exist
@Tristan Rodriguez
While the resistance was doing it's share keeping the German occupation on it's toes, it is sadly a fact that the different resistance groups had a bunch of feuds with each other, and instead of fighting the occupation united they sometimes fought between themselves (fought for weapons, explosives, territory etc.) because most of the movements wanted to be in charge when the occupation was gone, being "THAT movement that freed France". If they were united they would've multiplied their effectiveness massively and perhaps even single handedly freed France. Then again, it's hard for us to say what would be if X or Y happened.
