    Two years ago in California, a kid was suspended from school and charged with felony assault for "holding a pencil in a threatening manner." Meanwhile, this school can't even be bothered to tell the campus police officer about an _actual_ threat?! So many more people should be held accountable for this.

Their still not talking these seriously. Idgaf how "how calm" he was or the excuses he used they need to take action immediately. Obviously they called the parents but we know how that turned out. The schools should've called law enforcement to let them be aware of. I think immediate extreme actions need to be taken place from the very beginning. • @PeterHonig.
      @PeterHonig. Před 2 lety +50

      The school was pretty much in a no-win situation. They had made the decision to send the kid home on the morning of the shooting, but his parents outright refused to take him. The guidance counselor decided that if he were sent home alone, he might harm himself. If it turned out that the kid committed suicide due to the school sending him home, everyone would criticize the school even more than they are doing now. If they searched his bags, you would hear complaints about his rights being violated. The only solution that might have worked is if the parents took him home and sent him to psychiatric counseling within 48 hours as they were required to by the school. If they did not comply, the school was going to refer him to child protective services.
      Edit: Though if they would have searched his backpack and found the gun, the incident might have been temporarily averted. However, without the parents' cooperation/support, I feel that it likely would have eventually resulted in a similar tragedy.

Some kid wrote a bomb threat on a bathroom wall in middle school and we all laughed it off. I'm glad that some of the kids had the instinct to stay home and that their parents let them. They teach active shooter training in most schools now. Since medical happens after the area is secured they are trying to teach the general public how to make a tourniquet (using a belt, a rope tightened with a pen, etc.) which can save lives because a person can bleed out before help arrives.

I was then informed about this by the student who was told and immediately went to the teacher but she did not care at all. it took me leading a revolution in my class for my teacher to call someone about it. instead of any police officers, SRO or even bomb squad was never called NO instead, our principal came into the class picked up the backpack, and then left, while we were sitting in the hall right outside the same classroom. Schools DO NOT take these matters into consideration enough and events like this shooting are a perfect example.

No underage person should have unsupervised access to a firearm! I was glad Rittenhouse got off because it was clearly self defense, but his mother should have stood negligent charges for him being there in the first place. Anytime a kid takes a controlled weapon to a school, the parents should be tried for neglect, and as accessories to any crime they commit. @@lm4733 No cause I don’t believe that the way a child acts is solely from upbringing. Sometimes some kids are born with a few screws loose. And anyhow it’s not like the parents 100% know what their kid is doing all the time, because parents should know to respect their own child’s privacy. That should be the case with most people in the western world unless you had very strict and controlling parents. All parents can do is lead them on a path and hope they stay on it. If they go astray it’s not a case of bad/good parenting, because that is subjective. The good-hearted parents who have a child that ends up shooting up a school would say “I should’ve been more stricter, we should’ve done this, that” etc. But if that was the case then all of us would had to have had some form of solitary confinement in our lives to assure we weren’t some come-to-be psychopath. The police would have liked to be made aware of the situation, but they would have needed probably cause to even search him. The school could have searched him for reasonable suspicion, but that would have been unlikely, as they had no reason to believe that he actually had a weapon. The school did everything that they legally had authorization to do, and nothing more. The school is not at fault.

Sounds like a great fucking idea. Then the media personalities can be judge, jury, and executioner just like they've always wanted.

Exactly like their lawyer tried to tell the Prosecutor. But she won't listen. The Sheriff had warrants for them and picked them up. Whatever the son did and whatever the parents did is bad enough, let them have a fair trial and be sentenced. But telling lies to get a win on the case is not what America does. It's a tragedy the students were shot and killed. And it could've been prevented. Everyone should learn from their mistakes. Including the School, parents, shooter, and other students. They knew this was going to happen. Someone should've called the Police. They knew weeks before. When the deer head or horse head, whatever it was, got left at school, it should've been a red flag clue. The dead bird in the jar of urine. But the School just said they were investigating. Ethan left messages. Other students left messages. They all knew this was coming. Then Ethan got the gun finally. Took photos of it and posted it. Still no one called Police. The kid had lost it way before the day of the shooting. Yet, the School Counselor said he was fine. I can't understand the students not telling the Police. Or the School ignoring all the red flags. But then, we have a Prosecutor willing to make crap up just for a win. This is not how I was taught to win at anything. You don't lie and cheat.

      Too busy focusing on the narrative instead of the proof the narrative is bullshit.
      I went through this in 2 states where school shooting incidents occurred.
      Kids were shot but didn't die so they swept the failure under the rug and focused on shutting down parents who weren't sticking to the narrative on social media. My daughter called crying from the main office in NC and the student council office in FL. In both cases the students told on a shooter with a gun on the premises. In Florida they told the officer. He verified the GUNS on the kids seat in his truck. Dismissed it as just some good ol boy shit and 3 days later after the little shit wounded maybe 4 students and over a half dozen teachers they still not only managed not to kill him in a damn shoot out no less but then used him not killing anyone as something viable when they charged him.
      This has been the dynamic from the start.
      Even gangbangers in liberal cities won't stoop to shooting up a school.
      So they can't point to them thus they focus on protecting the narrative on themselves.

    Can the district explain why they allowed an obviously disturbed student who presented a possible gun violence threat and was writing about hearing voices back into the classroom after parents would not take him home? And why wasn't the school safety officer informed of the situation as the police stated in their press conference? A 48 hour suspension might have been appropriate considering students get sent home for dress code violations. The administrators at the school should lose their jobs.

      What do you expect a school to do. The country won’t pass common sense gun laws but school administrators are supposed to have superhuman powers and overcome risks laws should mitigate. Families are responsible for their children, we are the parents not the school. Your kid, my kid doesn’t get to go and disrupt the learning and peace of serious students because we have failed.

      Teachers do not expel students. The teacher did the due diligence of sending the picture of the child's drawing to admin. The administrators are the ones who were responsible for bringing the child into their office, looking at the picture, talking to them, examining backpacks and lockers. If the administrators had examined the backpack and found any weapon, it would have been an immediate explosion. The teacher was not culpable here. The teacher has an entire class, likely six different classes of students to deal with each day. That is why schools have administrators. The administrators failed the children and staff of that school.
