Tiny CREEK FISHING for CATFISH with CUT BAIT (Google Maps Creek Fishing)

- I found a small creek on google maps that dumps into a major river system. So I decided to get some cutbait and see if any catfish are living there. It turns out it's pretty shallow but I found a nice hole with some snags and the bite was on. Join me as I wade through a beautiful urban creek and find some surprising fish hiding amongst the lay downs. Thank you for watching!

Hey everybody, I returned to this creek 1 year later with some worms. I caught 10 different species! Check out my new video here: czcams.com/video/hjps6tCYwWk/video.html
One tip. Deeper forked tail is a channel. Saw it immediately. Channels often have no spots and can have a very blue color, but the tail fork depth is the key.
It is funny to see how you are racing to get in your dad-time before you have to get back for family-time. 😅 This video is intense. Almost felt like I was watching a crime taking place. lol. Love the vid. Thanks for posting!
Sometimes it's like that when you only have a few hours. You have to move with a purpose. Thanks for watching!
Well, i had fun.
Nice channel. I love creek fishing
Me too! The smaller they are the more interesting I think they are.
@@BackroadsAngling and you never know what you may find.
Nice video. What combos did you use to catch the gills and the kitties?
The rod is an ugly stick GX2. The reel is a Kastking eagle I believe. I like them both a lot.
Love catching catfish. Subbed.
Fun for sure. Thanks!
Grew up fishing just like this brings back a lot of good memories nothing like that fight on a light reel!!!
I just recently (last 5 yrs or so) started fishing small creeks again. Like you I did a lot of this fishing as a kid but I did less and less as I got older. It feels good to go back to fishing the way I started. Thank you!
Yea I been taking a 27 mile float trip every yr the last few yrs takes about 3 days untouched waters are the best!
very awesome, ive never caught a catfish but it would be awesome
They are fun. Especially in a small creek setting like this. I hope you catch one soon! Thanks!
Nice channel catfish
Thank you! It was cool to find decent sized fish in this creek!
Get it brother
Thanks!

Any chance you would share a good spots location? I'm Indianapolis amd have tried desperately to find my 7 year old obsessed kiddo a spot and I've failed him 110%, I gotta find something because he's becoming so discouraged. He will catch and release
I think the most important thing is to use a presentation that is easy to use and will catch any fish in the area. I use a jighead (1/8 ounce or 3/16 ounce should be good) and put a worm on it. Everything from big fish to small fish of all species will eat this. Try fishing it on the bottom in deeper holes and around rocks or brush in creeks and rivers. Try different presentations like letting it sit still or if that doesn't work slowly bounce it (reel it in) on the bottom. You can also try suspending the bait by putting a bobber 2-3 ft up the line or adjust length depending on depth. As for spots, use google maps to find creeks in your area that are adjacent to public land. On google maps you can spot river bends and deep holes (they have a darker color than shallow spots). Drop the jighead - worm into these holes and it's only a matter of time before something bites.
LOOKS LIKE A BLUE CAT
I can't believe that you sat your reel in the sand. I love the video though.
Ya I should be kinder to my gear. Thanks!
Then dipped it in the water
Good as new! haha
I forget and do that too when I'm in a hurry to get the fish off and back in the water
First time I've ever seen someone purposely dip their reel in the water.
Had to get the sand out.
We have a secret spot like that but we use sticks and tie lines to them then we bait and wait and after 10 minutes we have at least 1 fish most of the time more
Sounds like a fun spot!
We have a fishy fish that snaps our sticks, our line, or the sticks get pulled out of the ground. Legend has it the fishy fish is still lurking around with the sticks still hanging out of its mouth.
What rod and reel are you using
I believe the rod I was using here was an ugly stick GX2 and the reel is a kastking valiant eagle. I have had good luck with the kastking reels in the $30-60 range.
i notice that creek from lojo i believe
No, I live a really long ways away from Lojo. I wish he lived close to me though. Would be cool to see him out and about. Thanks for watching!
Is this maryland?
No it's in the midwest
That’s one way how to fuck up your reel🤣
Still works like a champ!
Funny how a couple pound channel cat can fight so hard
Yes, and with a light rod when you are expecting something tiny it can catch you by surprise!
It is a blue
It was a channel. There aren't any blue catfish in my area. Once I stopped and thought about it I realized iit had to be a channel.
It is a channel
I agree!
You filmed a crime in my state. Only processed bait, eg salted or cured, can be transferred between waterways.
I guess we live in different states.
@@BackroadsAngling figured as much, was just pointing out a funny law. Probably for invasive plants/species from slime coat/eggs.
Ive seen a 7ft chanel cat come outta a 4ft deep creek that was the same width as that creek
Dang, a world record by 3ft!
@@BackroadsAngling it's the other Way around 4ft long outta a 7ft creek mybad 😂
@@jackboys_ripped_lips7322 The world record is 47.25 inches and 58 lbs so you still would have had the record. Hope you registered it.
Yep you caught a blue Catfish. 🎣
If it has a flat tail & looks blue 🔵 it's a blue catfish. Channel Catfish have a Forked tail. I've caught both.
I don't know you laws Toby??? But try a limb line or trotline & you may see more Catfish. Good 👍 🎣 Luck 🤞
I think I can use a trot line but I prefer to catch them with a rod.
That's a eater! Channel Catfish! 🎣 What lb test are you using???
I think I was using 10lb in this video. You wouldn't need that heavy though. I think 6 lb would be about right
@@BackroadsAngling yeah 👍 I use to be a full out Crappie man & sunfish. Occasionally I would catch things that was much too big for 6 lb line & light hook 🪝 like 1/0. I caught a nice eater blue Catfish on it & a couple Channel Cats. I don't recall but in N.C. I was 🎣 fishing for Bass & hooked a 10+ Channel catfish & ended up jumping in so that it didn't snap my line, I threw it up on the bank. I filleted it & cooked a delicious meal for my mom & I. Good 👍 🎣 Luck fishing 🎣
@@gerald4133 Sounds like a nice channel. 10+ lbs is a good one. Probably tasted good too!
@@BackroadsAngling yes it did I wasn't going loose it , I could tell the line was about to snap at the bank so jumped in after it! So I got wet, I tossed up in the bank . Later I filet it & cooked fried catfish for mom & me. Delicious 😋
Check the tail, channels have a forked tail & blue catfish don't have a forked tail. I've caught both & besides the lack of spots blues don't have a forked tail. Just my observations. Good 👍 luck 🎣 Toby.
I was screaming forked tail at myself
