Thats a neat spot!
What a feeling being out in nature with you, remind me when looking for spots to. Carp keep seems to keep their distance from your technique. Thanks !
What a trip.... great little tunnel spot.. you need a machete lol I also think Greenies are some of the prettiest fish
A machete is a great idea - next time! I agree with you on the green sunfish. Very interesting fish to look at. Thank you!
I live down the street from that tunnel and also saw it on Google maps but never fished it. Some great looking hybrids in there! That backwater spot looked so promising too!
I'll probably run into you sometime at Aldi or some place like that. It seems like we are practically neighbors. I ride by this tunnel when I bike to work and I've always wondered if there were fish in there. Glad to finally get an answer. The backwater area is worth another shot in the future. Thank you!
Epic bait spot 🗣️🗣️
Thanks!
Cool little spot. Classic leave fish to catch fish, but i like the plan and execution. Great adventure, as usual.
I was hoping to execute the leave fish for bigger fish plan but it didn't work out. Bowfin have always been elusive for me. I need to spend some time dialing them in. Thank you!
Is that a Bass Pro Ultra lite rod and reel your using? Nice honey hole for bait!
Yes, I believe it is. Had it for a long time. This spot was a nice and convenient find! Thanks for watching!
Fun but from prior experience, never wet wade in that kind of water. I ended up with a very bad gash on my shin and ended up getting infected.
In five years, this guy will have 1 million subs and I can say I subscribe to him when he had 10 K 🙂
Thanks, I appreciate the support! Glad to have you on board!
That boat was def a bass hole but that was one heck of a day. Looks like the wipers have been treating you pretty good too
It's a good thing I had a small fish on the line because if it had been a wiper and made a run it would have gone right under the guys boat. A good reason not to fish crowded spots on the weekend! Wipers have been biting pretty good. Not as fire as what you're seeing but still pretty good.
Hey! I know it's bad to ask for ppls spots on fishing but I've been fishing in Iowa my whole life and my dream is to catch a pike, do you know of any body's of water you could catch them in here in Iowa?
The Wapsi river is my favorite place to catch pike. It's pretty loaded in the northern parts of the state.
@@BackroadsAngling thanks so much
Epic vid bro 💪
Thanks!
What are great discovery. Like the way you took a chance to get to. And then it paid off. I'm glad you didn't edit the spill you took Keep it real.
Keep it up and you'll be as successful as John Dalton and Creek fishing adventures. If you've never watched, I recommend it, Highly.
This was a really cool spot. I'm glad I didn't give up after seeing it was overgrown. The spill I took was definitely a funny highlight.
Thanks, I do enjoy Creek Fishing Adventures. Great channel!
Hello there, I wonder how you prevent the clear coat from collecting inside of the mouth forming a glob? I have had this issue with my poppers. I also wonder how your brush strokes look very pristine. I would appreciate your advice.
Hi, sorry I've been on vacation and out of good wifi for the last week. I do a few things to prevent the clear coat from globing around the mouth. First I put a wire through the eye of the hook and use that wire to hang the popper for drying. This prevents any epoxy from getting inside the eye of the hook. Second, and maybe most importantly, when applying the epoxy use as small amount as you need to cover up the paint. A tiny amount should do the job. For the brush strokes, the epoxy will smooth out as it sets. If you mix the two parts really well and apply the epoxy immediately it should smooth out even it initially you see brush strokes. The epoxy I'm using takes 30 min to set so plenty of time before any brush strokes become permanent.
@@BackroadsAngling Thank you for your input. I will definitely use this information while making my next lure.
Might have to wait night time then
haha nice video bro any good tips on Wiper Fishing for some guys who had no knowledge about it?
If just starting out the first thing I would do would be to find stocking/fishing reports to find lakes and rivers where a lot of wipers are found. If you find a river that has a lot of wipers then throw a jig head with a 3" swimbait or fluke (white and/or chartreuse is best) below spillways or fast moving riffles. Wipers like fast moving or turbulent water so they will be hanging out there waiting for bait fish. If you find a good lake try fishing early mornings or late in the evenings when you are most likely to find them blowing up on the surface. Once you find them throw the same swimbait or fluke I mentioned above or cast a topwater like whopper plopper or popper. Once you spend enough time on a good body of water you will start to learn their habits and find areas where the fish like to concentrate. good luck!
Ohhh that’s makes a lot of sense what about the gear set up 😅
@@selaher8670 medium action rod paired with a reel that has good drag. 20lb braid with a 20lb flour leader for the last 3ft above the jig head.
i need to go here in the mornings, is there any catfish?

Dude YEA!!WIPER...WIPER .....WIPER...BEST FISH OUTSIDE THE OCEAN. I LIVE IN MIDDLE KANSAS .........AND I HAD DAY WHERE 42 OF THOSE 10 TO 12 HAWGS WERE ROLLING. NEVER EVER EVER WILL I FORGET IT! LIVE SHAD....BAM
I agree, wipers are my favorite freshwater fish. You guys have some nice lakes for catching them over there in Kansas. It's a blast to get them on live bait for sure! Thanks
Great video as usual! You really have a knack for finding some big wipers! Some nice walleye too! Have you ever caught a muskie chasing shad?
Thanks, I have plenty of very average days at these spots too. Occasionally I get lucky and stumble onto some good bites. I've never actually seen a muskie mixing in and chasing shad although I wouldn't be surprised if they did on occasion.
I like watching you fish with your boat if that was me I probably would come back with less equipment than I started with that is exciting fishing great job and I appreciate you telling what your bait is and how you fish it
Sometimes I come back with less equipment too. This boat is super portable and efficient but the one drawback is the lack of storage space. I tend to drop pliers and lures over the side from time to time. Having the water right below you means no second chances on anything you fumble. Thanks for watching!
Is this at rathbun
Love the video!! Will need to put wiper fishing on the bucket list!!
Thanks! Definitely put them on the list! They are a blast!
Those wipers were taking for a ride! Thats pretty cool to see them boil that water up. Great catches.
If you get one of the bigger ones they will almost make you feel like you are getting towed by another boat. It's quite a shot of adrenaline when they start boiling that's for sure. Thank you!
Good
Thank you!
How far down are you keeping the swimbait? I was consistently hitting 2 to 3 lb bass out there for a while recently in that area.
When they are boiling like this I keep it within 2-3 feet of the surface. There are a lot of largemouth in this area.
Really cool seeing you catch all those fish on my lures! I bet if you tried an A rig or a double jig rig (looks like 3 hooks legal in Iowa) you could get some multi-fish casts
The EFH lures have been working really well for the wipers this year. The size and color is a perfect match the hatch lure for these shad. The A-rig would be interesting when they are schooled up like this. I will try it next time!
The boat at about 13:00 was a walleye boat. We have those here, too. They seem to have their own rules and moral codes that allow them to do whatever they want. Which is why it was awesome to not only watch you crush wipers, but nail some nice walleye, too. Keep it up!
I think the guy in the boat would argue that I am fishing near the passage way so he has every right to go through. It's true but I think common respect between anglers would suggest that if someone is sitting on a big school of fish maybe you should pause for a second and wait for things to die down. Or turn on the trolling motor at least instead of the 200hp. Thanks for watching!
👍✌️ Soldier out on the water early morning fishing no matter if it's for wipers small heads large heads the raw food right??? Keep up the good work Soldier✌️👍
Thanks!
This has rejuvenated me in 100 degree drought weather here in south Texas, got some new ideas, great video
I hope you get some rain. We have been dry for a few years but this year it has really turned around! Thanks!
Caught a 9 lb largemouth under a school of whites ripping a school of shad to shreds. Always other monsters underneath
Would have loved to see the one 13 min in
Yes, that one and the next one after that. Both seemed like really good fish. I had a lot of fish come off on this day unfortunately.
This is some badass, sorry for that but the best expletive for it, action. Days are so rare and I am so envious. And thanks
You're right it is rare to see them so fired up. I just try to enjoy it as much as I can when it happens because I don't know when I'll see it again! Thanks!
Yeet!🎣🔥
First couple seconds were damn exciting, gonna stay for more
These fish were giving me a serious drag test for sure!
I was wondering during your last video if the next one would be at the lake with your boat. Always nice to seem some more wiper & white bass action.👍
Ya, I think I ended off the last video watching fish out in the middle that I couldn't reach. I learned my lesson that I needed the boat so I could follow them wherever they go. Thanks!
Maybe you could show your rig more often, what you are fishing with.
For the first few fish I was using a whopper plopper and for the ones after that I was just using a jig head with a 3 inch swimbait.
Both great but for me I land more with the revolver and usually bigger bass but love both.
Very nice man
Thanks, it was a fun one!
Nothing better than topwater fishing. Great video!
I couldn't agree more. Thanks!
Where are you located for fishing
My friend used a knock off and I used a choppo. He kept getting line twist because the whole thing would spin often. mine never did this because they weight the belly portion of the choppo to prevent this from happening. So, sometimes it's worth extra $$$ to get better performance.
I've never had any problem with the cheaper ones rolling over but it might vary based on the brand. Your friends might have had some gunk in between the spinning tail and the body. Whenever my ploppers get gummed up they have a tendency to roll over. If you use a 2 way swivel to connect the plopper to the main line that also prevents them from rolling over or causing line twists.
@@BackroadsAnglingSplit ring and barrel Swivel solves your pproblem.

Excellent job... Catches fish... That's what it's all about ... Air brushes are cheap..
Thanks, I'm glad it plopped after all that work. I've resisted getting an airbrush. Not because of cost but more to be different I guess. I feel like it makes it more custom to use a paint brush. I'm not very good at hand painting but it will improve with practice.
This has got to be in April or early May. No way it was last weekend hence uploaded 4 days ago.
Where is this?
Awesome catches! Wish I can go out and cast a few. With all the heavy rain we're having all week. It's a no go. Rivers and lakes are all flooded through the woods and on farmlands. A few roads in most of the SW areas in MN here are flooded out and closed from traveling. Will have to wait.
Thanks, the water is rising here too but not as bad as it is there. It's been a crazy wet spring-early summer. Hopefully it will dry out a bit.
