- Why the Apple Vision Pro is so expensive?
So at first you might think this is just about profits. But there are headsets that cost 2 or even 3 times as much, so Apple could've made it more expensive. $3,500 is actually a carefully chosen price, based on 3 factors.
The last one might piss off iPhone users.
3. Familiarity. So before Apple, Microsoft actually released a headset for the same price. Now while tech should get cheaper overtime, Apple went the extra mile. 2 processors, 12 cameras, and even a knob to filter out poor people.
2. Gamers. So companies like Meta make more profit on games, than the headset. But Apple is avoiding gaming, so has to make almost all their profit on the headset.
1. Confusion. Apple could have released a non-Pro product under $1,000. But then people would compare it to existing products, and realise it has way less apps and things to do. That's

Not rlly. The $10000 headsets need to be connected to a Pc at all times to work and are made for commerical enviroments. The reason they are so expensive (normally) are because it has a lot of advanced settings and are very customisable for commerical enviroments

Having no 3D games ready for such a headset, not even simple ones or demos, is a severe drawback and a dealbreaker for many people. Reviews for the whole set were mixed.

Apple filed over 5,000 patents for technologies which contributed to the development of Apple Vision Pro. Those 5,000 patents make up a lot of the price set at 3,500 for the base price. Without the patents, the Apple Vision Pro would cost about $1,542.

...that's because those headsets are enterprise headsets marketed towards companies who can afford those. Apple Vision Pro is an overly expensive consumer headset
Apple made it so expensive because
1. They thought people would buy it (they didn't)
2. To make it less accessible to the general public. It's basically a prototype in beta testing, not a finished product
3. To raise the demand for VR. The general public now see Apple made this really expensive headset, they want it but they can't afford it. But when Apple releases a new Vision headset that's cheaper and addresses a lot of previous complaints, everyone will buy it
If your curious it's around 1,100$ to make a apple vision pro around 2/3 profit. Compared to meta which at most brings around 100$ profit
The profit has to cover cost of marketing and development. Two things that Apple arguably spends a lot of money on. Also, they probably know that it will be more niche than the Quest

Or you can, I don't know, buy the Valve Index entire set with everything (Even a charger!) For 1K. A headset that is way more powerful, has basically all the apps since it is literally made for steam, and before you say "it doesn't have that and that and that", yes it does, just not out of the box, literally almost all of the things the Apple Vision Pro has, you can somehow add to the valve index pro, or even a different headset that is still better in most regards and 3 times cheaper

The profit is much higher than that. The headset only costs about 1k to make including labor and parts. They sell it for about 3500 which is 350% profit off a single item.
