Native Kiwi here! Loving the series and so excited to see a take on Auckland (as much as I am a South Islander through and through 😉) some quirks about New Zealand:
1. most houses in suburban areas especially are bungalows/single storey, there are some two storey houses particularly in the inner/wealthier suburbs of Auckland but most Kiwis live on one floor because there are large enough plots of land
2. you’re spot on about the climate - it’s subtropical so there are a lot of palm trees but more temperate winters mean that there is a healthy mix of flora
3. Auckland has some gridded street clusters but most are natural sprawls - Pakuranga (suburb) is a good example of this where it also has some interesting features like more in-land marinas for private boats (sailing is HUGE in NZ) and some houseboats with dirt trails through hills that connect them, though I also understand that the game mechanics favour grid patterned streets
4. if Rockport ends up with an airport (I appreciate that’s probably miles away) Auckland has a fantastic and surprisingly large coastal airport on partially reclaimed land that juts into the sea, and is about equidistant from the downtown Auckland area as Dunswell Airport was to downtown Dunswell in your other series
5. shopping areas are similar to retail parks in the UK or outlet malls in parts of North America, there are some malls but most kiwis will have their amenities in clustered outlet malls
6. one part of New Zealand culture is the prevalence of “dairies” - these are just ice cream/malt shops with milkshake bars, similar to US diners maybe but less ornate and more like smaller restaurants on corners, popular hangout spots even for young people today
Of course, it’s your city and I know Rockport only takes inspiration from New Zealand but I’m so excited to see someone take inspiration from the largest city of our humble little country and thought I’d at least share these nuggets in case you needed more inspiration! Kia ora!
Name the new district "Harbour Hill"
good idea!
Port Hill sounds short and fine
@@karthickbgthats good too
deez nuz
"Fish Stench Cove" is better
You can swap the windmills with earthquake detectors, they dont need roads and you can hide them under a bush and trees
I love watching suburban neighborhood building videos. Idk why but i think it’s because of how realistic and relatable these types of neighborhoods are
New Zealand's sports - Rugby, Netball, Football (soccer), cricket.
For street layouts - the 1900s era suburbs on the Auckland Isthmus are streetcar suburbs - long arterial streets where the streetcars once ran with a grid layout that follows the contours of the hills where necessary. Newer suburbs tend to American cul-de-sac style (Massey). Until you hit the 2010s era suburbs where we seem to be returning to grids more (e.g. Ormiston/Flat Bush).
Rugby is probably the other most popular sport in New Zealand so you've gotta get something to do with rugby in there.
I think that the new district should be named Beachland, after the area near the real Auckland in New Zealand. Coincidentally that place also has a harbor and a golf course 😊👍
Right now I’m building my city in Cities Skylines and I understand your hard work in Rockport! Your architecture knowledge is amazing! Oscar goes to you!
I'm not from NZ, but I do know they're big on cricket. I don't know so much of football (soccer), but I do know they're really big on rugby. Now unfortunately there aren't any rugby stadiums/fields in the game or new ccp, but you can use the Australian football fields and/or stadiums in place of rugby fields. It's the closest to rugby fields I suppose...
Anyway, thanks for the awesome video, keep it up. I can't wait to see what you'd build when CS 2 comes out😁
13:45 palm trees can grow deep into temperate areas, Seattle and Vancouver both have palm trees, although maybe not to the extent and variety of a place like Auckland
I thoroughly enjoy watching these videos. You and I share a love for this type of gameplay-plopping and designing a city rather than worrying with the mechanics of the game. It’s very soothing to watch. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your talents!
beautiful gameplay, you inspired me to get into skylines again and this time i’m taking my time with all the tips and tricks i learned from watching. much love
So cool! I was on my varsity high school golf team back in the day! I think you did a pretty good job. Usually the driving range is close to the clubhouse but I don’t think it’s a big deal for them to be farther off either.
Just to give you a good understanding. Rugby is definetly the most popular and most followed sport in New Zealand. Cricket is the most popular summer sport but pales in comparison to rugby, mainly because there is no domestic league. Football is popular with youth. We also play rugby league, netball and recently a lot of basketball.
Nice work! Love the idea so far. For a name, I'm gonna keep leaning into the NFS Rockport: there's a golf course in the Rosewood area called Forest Green Country Club (according to the Wiki), so naming the district either Rosewood or Forest Green, or maybe a combo like Rose Green, would be cool
Golf courses will tend to have about 2 par 3 holes per 9 holes (shorter holes) 1 par 5 hole (longer holes) and 6 par 4 holes (medium size hole). They will also vary in height and the tee box (starting point) might be higher or lower (rarely) than the green (literal hole)
Also the fairway takes up most of the grass between the green and the tee box. The rough is the area outside of that and it is generally tougher, thicker, taller grass.
I think a great name would be Rockport Peak because the top with the light house poked out a bit and it sounds cool!
Very entertaining video love to see more !!
Awesome! New Rockport, thank you very much!
Love the series man!
Loving this videos, greets from Brazil! Would be nice to see you building a tropical city like Rio
Love the content! Name suggestion for the new neighborhood could Stetson Hills.
I love your contents and always wait for the upcoming episodes
Keep up man
Luv from Iran 🫀
Keep it up . Merci pour ces vidéos. Thank you so much
Great city! I know it’s based off New Zealand but how about some sprawl on the side with the water plant. Get a solid population base before you work on your downtown
Amazing video!
I know there's some golf course assets on the workshop that'll make it easier to build! Anyways another great episode!
Dental clinics too.
A trolly that connects all your districts? Also bus stations.
Hey man, i always get inspired to play when I watch your videos!
But I always find myself getting angry because I don’t understand the move it mod completely and the basic’s of bigger areas of traffic. For example how to make a smooth traffic central for a larger area. If you could give some more tips of what you might find basic knowledge I would love it even more! Very entertaining videos anyways! ❤
Loving rockport man
How about ''Cape Amber'' for the new district? Along with Cape Amber Golf Centre :D
In New Zealand we often call areas like that (especially with a lighthouse) a 'point', so naming it would be something like 'portside point' .
Name suggestion for current or future fancy or posh neighborhood: Emerald Heights or Hargreaves Hill. Named after the first pitch settler in that area who was made famous by his very successful emerald mine over seas. His name was Nathaniel Hargreaves. He lived in one of the nicer sought after plots of land near Rockport during it's development. Soon after he died though his children sold off his large land to the wealthy and soon it became a dence neighborhood. The original Hargreaves mansion still stands near the center of the neighborhood but is now surrounded by much more modern and developed housing. Its name was recently adopted and committed to the remeberence of Nathaniel Hargreaves and his welcome patronage to Rockport.
Hope you like it and find a place for it in your city!
You need to add a rugby field because rugby is very famous in New Zealand. They have won the rugby world cup 3 times already..Hope you add them
Arundel is a cool name for the new neighborhood
Heres a tip: you can select node(s) in move it and CTRL + H it to the height of another node you select
Yes, place the elder care right behind the driving range so they can get hit with gold balls, genius!
With this oil, the golf course became the course to the golf lol
Awh man ya can't have a New Zealand theme without a rugby ground
Maybe the district should be called Overlook Penisula since it overlooks the bay (and ocean) and that it is on a penisula. Great golf course!
You could try and disconnect the bridge's road and build a two-way network using move it on top of it, possibly?
Love these videos so much! A name for this district might be 'Keeper's Headland'. Might be a bit long, but I thought since there's a lighthouse, maybe the area has a history of valuing it's keeper, so they named it after that:)
To be honest I dont think the windmills looks too bad
Have you ever been that close to a windmill? It’s insanely loud and would never be a part of a park.
A nice beach would be cool.
Football stadium and more entertainment and active stuff.
After you finish building and connecting everything, can you turn of infinite money and mods and watch and continue like that? Love this content.
Rugby!!!! Rugby is the biggest sport in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Every school and sportsground has a rugby field and clubrooms.
Surely the fertile land painter is the light green texture you are after
Need to add some lord of the rings lore, or a lord of the rings style amusement park considering LotR was filmed in new Zealand
Have you thought about using bob mod to help het rid of the ugly probs that come with some of the vanilla assets.?
For the new area I'm going with "Lightwood" to encompass the lighthouse and all the trees you plot down. Also, "light" because of all the forest fires that have been lit lol
How do you configurate FIND IT in order to place vanilla buldings instanly without waiting for it to do the build up animation and place it wherever you want without zoning?
You could call the district "Greystone Hills"
what mod do you use that you can adjust the height of already placed objects?
Since this is starting to turn into Vancouver, could you make a Downtown Eastside and an East Hastings Street? 🤔😂
Maybe the new district can be called "Deguk Side" ?
How do you scroll down using FindIt instead of scrolling from left to right to browse through assets?
Can i ask, what mods are you using the homes you plot down, don't just disappear or get abandoned ? Thanks
Use the mod called theme mixer to change the colors of the ground with sliders
is there anywhere in the world where an exit takes place over water like that? i think id hate that hahah
You should name the district ocean meadows, or like Upper Gardens.
So do people have to drive over the curb to get to their house?
I think a good name for the port is Portland (my hometown)
how do you get all the prop buildings i cant find a specific mod just random buildings
the mod is called: plop the growables. But he has a lot more buildings, because he has all the dlc's for that
Greenhaven has a nice ring to it
what about Fairhaven
greenhaven sounds good too
Rugby is the most played sport in New Zealand
I think they have a gold course mod not sure tho 🤷🏼
