- Jonathan MS Pearce is a philosopher, author, columnist, and public speaker with an interest in writing about almost anything, from scepticism to science, politics, and morality, to the environment. Essentially because everything is philosophy. He is a former teacher and is now battling primary progressive multiple sclerosis. He can no longer play football with his twin boys, but he can still write a good column and book. And remarkably, and very bravely, he has just come back from an arduous journey to Ukraine’s frontlines. His experiences are the subject of today’s conversation.

Great job Jonathan! I followed Greg and JP during their adventure in Ukraine and wished I could be there with them. It was both inspiring and heart breaking. I am rooting for Ukraine but apart from sending money I cannot do anything else as I have to look after my 97 year old mother. I fight here in France as I am one of the odd one out in my family and I cannot understand how they can swallow all that Russian propaganda we also have here. Slava Ukraini !

I'm very glad I stumbled across JP and then by association Greg. Their circle of informational analysis, spreading awareness and literal material aid is so real. It has been an honor to help contribute to their efforts of getting bandages and other essential supplies directly to where they need to go and Greg does a fantastic job of showing the real people in Ukraine the stuff gets to. And let me say it is so refreshing to see atheists and theists getting along so well, united in what is really the most clear cut case of good vs. evil we have in the world right now. A truly modern and free society is one where everyone is free to express what they believe and not feel persecuted. This is not possible in Russia, and is very definitely a value Ukraine is fighting for.

Thank you for having JP on and highlighting our support for Ukraine. JP's trip was such a powerful symbol of our support for Ukraine. Living on Social Security and wanting so badly to donate more to the cause is a financial and emotional disabiltiy, well represented by JP's physical struggle at the front. It is frustrating. On top of that, witnessing the Republican Party withholding aid is so damn excrutiating. Kudos to you and to Greg. What great men. God bless!

Jonathan thank you for this interview. I also lament the extraordinary difficulty people have discerning the truth. Many I know have swallowed Putin’s assertions that Crimea and theDonbas etc were always really Russian. I would love more interviews that help us all with the truth.pertaining to this issue. One thing that demonstrates to me, a lawyer, the stark difference between Ukrainians and Russians is the Ukrainian constitution and it’s aspirations as well as checks and balances to maintain freedom. Jonathan, as always I am impressed by the variety and types of guests you have on your channel. As you know, big fan. I do have concerns where we might forget our own crimes (Iraq and Afghanistan) but I am not here to litigate those crimes--I am here for the outrageous and extensive abuse of power and the dynamics allowing the state to overrun its own, other, and eventually all people.

Inspiring. Yes, I too, never thought I would be supporting a war, wanting to build military capacity, and listening more closely to generals than diplomats, much less politicians. I have learned so much about geopoltics, and about the boundary between every frontier/threshold in the world. We in the West are very naive about the threats that we and others around the world face. I fear that the West will have to be given an unimaginable blow before we understand what is at stake. Everything.

“A deficit of morality” in our freedom loving countries. I agree. If we value that freedom, we need to support it everywhere it exists, not just in our own little space on the planet.
Mr Pearce brings up a very good point off the bat, about "self-agrandisement" I've seen a lot of people that have inserted themselves into the situation here post 2022, (where were they in 2014 ? The only guy here in 2014 was Greg Terry BUT......). and for some, it's all about them, there's one guy,, won't mention his name, but he always says "it's not about about me", but in fact, it's always about him. Everyone's throwing around "Slava Ukrayiniy" like a cheap slogan. they don't even say it right. As famous footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic said that sums up this well, if you care about a charity, why show off about how much you give, just STFU and do it, don't show off about it. Everyone's problematic in their own way, except for Will Blackburn, he does runs into the front line but he never shows off about it on youtube to an almost crass level. If Mr Blackburn wasn't on this show the other day, no one would even know who he is. A quiet achiever, not a loud mouth, blow in.😐

Thank you for this breath of fresh air and reason of a talk in today's superficial, sporadic and illogical media-scape surrounding the latest russo-Ukrainian war (of which today is the 10th anniversary imo). Regarding epistemology and the enemy, maybe it's worth borrowing from Marcus Aurelius and asking ourselves: "What is the russian federation fundamentally? What is its nature and substance, its reason for being? What is it doing in the world? How long is it here for?"

A: Fundamentally, Muscovy is neither Russian, nor federation.
Q: What is its nature and substance, its reason for being?
A: Muscovy emerged on 1502 as a sort of theocracy ruled by fanatically religious dukes. Its population was already brainwashed for centuries and believed that Kyjevъ is their Jerusalem.
Q: What is it doing in the world?
A: Parasitizing on everything, starting from crude oil and ending with nuclear anxiety.
Q: How long is it here for?
A: Muscovy started to steadily collapse since 1867, the last time it lost territory on 2004, when Tarabarov islands has been ceded to China. At this moment Muscovy actually should not exist already but, the USA saved it from an inevitable collapse at least five times on 1867, 1892, 1921, 1941 and 1991.
I struggle with its reason for being personally (i.e. have no use for it). But if we really want to stretch our tolerance, I suppose its only practical reason for being is the extraction and provision of petroleum and other natural resources (which we need to do a much better job of using economically and managing judiciously unless we want to keep relying on "resource-cursed" dictatorships), and its only moral/philosophical reason for being is the demonstration of how to lead a miserable existence so that others can avoid it.@@donotmislead
I live in England and before this war I could not have pointed out Ukraine 😮. Truth. All I knew was that Chernobyl was in Ukraine and the capital was Kyiv (only back then we called it Kiev) 😐
one of the early points was on the money, Ukraine can win, but we aren't giving them the tools. In Australia the PMs response was been pitiful inlcuding scrapping army helicopters that Ukraine requested, and giving tiny amounts both as a percentage of our GDP and defence budget.
