My first big pedal, fell in love with it so much over my Ibanez pedals, that I let those go for a STEAL. I had a TS-10! But now I much prefer my POD x3 live. I got a roland expression pedal for the me-8, really helped to have more than binary control on the adjustable parameters. (so now I have 2x pedals on my pox x3 live) I kept it around though for the DS-1 distortion, I barely liked the H.DS distortion, but could use the send/return with my tube screamer for great results. i also liked being able to just tap in the delay instead of having to try to dial it in on a knob. The other cool part of this pedal was that reverbs (delays too?) continued on even if you switched patches. Also a big demerit for the "group" button not being a stompable stunk and I got a stomp pedal to bring up the tuner, because you could do that, but was disappointed you couldn't switch groups with a foot switch.
Yep I agree with all those comments 100%. It's been surpassed by some newer models, but certainly not ALL newer models. Still rates pretty strongly :) GF
Still use mine since mid 90’s so many useful tones and options with this unit 1) The noise gate works extremely well 2) The effects loop works and comes in quite handy 3) Stereo hook up options 4)The “cab sim” is meh... but does make a difference in sound 5) External tuner and overdrive inputs
I had one, a band robbed me from 2 pedal boards, this was one of them. Very unique sounding board. Now i miss it. I have GT-100 but ME-8 was so limitless, you dont find FX like that anywhere.
I love you made various videos about this board.... and is very interesting that i've seen videos about this board and it doesn't seem a particular pedal, they don't use the ctl pedal to wack out... may be you can think outside of the box with other multifxs and make it cool too. Thank you for the videos!
@@gearfacts What it means interchangeable? :O The bass version has more synths? In the guitar version, i heard more pitch shifter based wackings instead of other effects on the me8b
I love my me-8 because with its amp simulator I can plug my guitar on a recorder like h4npro, to make mtr records. With my pedals I have to pass through my marshall amp and I can't have a real clean sound. I like the analogic boss od pedals in it, I like the manual use, the phaser effect is cool. the boss me8 is from 1995 year.
I own this unit for many years and i think it's definitely one of a kind.I paired it with newly acquired Blackstar id core 100 modeling amp but i am not really happy with the performance to be honest,,it kind of reduces the stereo feeling of the amp.Whats your thoughts on that?.. digital amps take digital multieffects better maybe and vice versa..??
@@MrGiorgosHellas Oh sorry, I think I was answering someone else's comment and it ended up here. The ME-8 is pretty simplistic so I wouldn't expect much in the way of stereo excitement. Perhaps it's just too old for this setup. I think it excels with expression effects tbh. I also lament that it doesn't have a fuzz sound!
Well they're all very different pedals. Never liked the GT3 much, it was too glitzy for my style. To be fair though, it had way more effects to choose from than the ME-8. The GT5, however, is a masterpiece. Sounds very analog and it uses the effects in some really creative ways. The GT6 is my favorite of all of them though, which is kind of ironic because it's all digital. Anyway all of these models have been reviewed on Gearfacts, feel free to discuss :)
Could you give a little bit of insight in how to eq a good distortion with the metal zone included in the boss me 8? I am a little bit new to guitar effects. Thank you Great video btw.
I haven't had this pedal for ages, but as general advice I'd say it's good to boost the low end, slightly cut the middle, and boost the high end at a pretty high frequency to give a bit of definition to the sound. I can't remember the frequency parameters exactly, but once you have it feeling pretty good, try switching over to the distortions column's TONE setting. Adjusting this value gives the whole sound a shift that might bring you closer to the sound you want. And remember to play the tone that makes you smile, don't let anyone dictate what is or isn't good. If you like it, then it's good :)
Hi very nice pedal unit. As a keyboard freak I'd like to know whether it'd be possible to plug a keyboard in this pedalboard? It could be fun together with, let's say, a Yamaha DGX. Cheers.
The answer is: Kind of. It can't take stereo in, so there's a problem from the start... But assuming we go in with a mono signal, then it can do the processing. It'd make some interesting sounds, especially with that CTL pedal, but I think I'd miss Univibe and Rotary effects, neither of which it has, and both of which are ideal for keyboard.
I don't have it anymore ...but if you cycle through all the presets I'm sure something suitable will appear. Also you can get the manual by Googling "Boss ME-8 PDF" , go into the manual then press CTRL+F to search for the word "Acoustic". There might be some info :) #gearfacts
Gearfacts or other users, you guys have or know where I can find some instructions for especific effects such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pink Floyd and others with this pedal? Thanks a lot.
Hmm, not specifically. I would think there are ME-8 groups on the net though, or even facebook. This pedal has a small cult following. I'd just google it :) GF
I think it can only store about 24 sounds. When it sounds good, press STORE, then click the pedal you want it stored to (you can also change bank at this time), then press STORE again. Thanks for watching my Gearfacts :)
Press EDIT, then think of the front panel as a grid, your position indicated by the lights on the bottom and the side that move when you press the arrow buttons :) #gearfacts
@@mbz25 Yeah I think its one of the better ones I've played, certainly one of the funnest. Adding an expression pedal really opens it up, so budget for that as well :)

1:38. I need this sound! 😍
I have one in the closet somewhere. Haven’t used it in about 15 years since I got the ME 50. Might have to break it out.
Yeah, it’s an amazing pedal. The only thing that lets it down is having only one amp simulation. Excellent fun though!

That's a tragic story man... I agree that the ME-8 had a certain magic. Love the CTL pedal's whammy and ring mod functions.

Oh i was talking about the me8b, but applies some how to this board!
Yeah they are basically the same. The ME8 is made for 6-string, ME8B is made for bass. Though they are interchangeable.

I have the Me-8b Bass version
It has much the same, but it was a complex vowel filter mode and a lot of fretless and other voicings.
And the synth is excellent! Done a few ME8B videos :) GF

I would like to know if with this multi effect I can get the sound out of Boss's old analog pedals, like the CE-2. Thanks in advance!
It can, but the modulation effects are digital so it may only be 90% as good
Trying to get the settings for metallica sounds again. I've had to reset it but can't remember how to set it up

Does this have the same generation of effects as the GT-5?
Not completely sure, but I think the GT series came slightly after this. GTs have a lot more effect to choose from.
is this an amplifier or do you need an amp to go with it
You need an amp. Or you can use a bluetooth speaker through AUX-in, it sounds quite good that way.
