MPs can expect subsidised lunches such as “Semolina tartlette with wild mushrooms and truffle cream, smoked pancetta and sherry syrup” for £3.59. We are footing that bill to make it so cheap for them. Why are they not getting their own meal deals?
Politics shouldn’t be a means to enrich yourself. There should be as little money in politics as possible.
I saw someone else in these comments say that high salaries help fight corruption. I understand the argument but it affords MPs too much privacy that they frankly don’t deserve. They are one step above public figures, they are public representatives. During their tenure they should use public bank accounts and declare all transactions to prevent corruption. We still have cases such as Baroness Mone’s PPE fiasco, so why are we wasting £300 a day on all 600 lords and paying our cabinet hundreds of thousands a year for a system that still enables corruption on a massive scale?

It’s a necessity, helps too prevent corruption

Is it working? Are we preventing corruption? Remember the disgraced Peter Viggers claimed £30,000 of gardening work as a work expense, of which £500 was for manure and £1645 was for a luxury “floating duck island” birdhouse for his garden pond.
