In this video I invite you to a look behind the scenes in Glashütte / Saxony / Germany @ Glashütte Original. Its manufacturing process is distinguished by a very high degree of vertical integration. So almost everything is done in-house, except the alligator-Straps maybe, since Glashütte Original does not have its own crocodile farm in the backyard.
The Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date is the manufacturers new ticking superstar and in the video we follow part of its manufacturing process + the demanding DIN 8306 & ISO 6425 test + Excellence test.
    DIN 8306 & ISO 6425 Test
Combining the DIN 8306 & ISO 6425 test will assure that every SeaQ Panorama Date is water-resistant to 300 meters and thus suitable for professional divers. The DIN and ISO tested SeaQ Panorama Date SeaQ Panorama Date meets the most rigorous quality standards in terms of water and shock resistance, prevention of salt water corrosion, and many other criteria.
    Glashütte Original Excellence Test
The exquisitely finished, in-house developed and manufactured 36-13 automatic calibre offering 100 hours of power reserve, with bevelled edges, polished steel parts, blued/polished screws, a Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish, a skeletonized rotor with 21 carat gold oscillation weight, an adjustment of rate by adjustment screws, a fine adjustment of rate symmetry by a swan-neck spring and a silicon hairspring undergoes together with the entire watch is tested for 24 days - under conditions extending even beyond a chronometer test. An engraving and individual test certificate act as quality seals for every watch.

I just purchased the SeaQ Blue 39.5 mm on a fully brushed bracelet. I also purchased the Glashutte rubber strap for summer wear. Outstanding finishing and fully in-house movement are what sold me on this watch instead of another Rolex. It keeps time in all six positions better than my GMT Master 2. I like that no one knows what it is at a distance but in a close up viewing it steals the show compared to a Rolex. As a daily wear, I never have to wind it - ever.

Only when you go so far and test that way you will deliver a perfect watch and a quality without any flaw. A Glashütte Original is more expensive than another watch ... Yes, but you really get a perfect wristwatch from a small luxury watch manufacturer producing a couple of thousand watches a year and not millions...

Thank you Alexander for showing us such a nice presentation on the Glashutte Original watches. After watching this video I was convinced why Glashutte is charging such a high price for their pieces. For the first time I came to know that their watches are adjusted into all 6 positions which is rare in watchmaking. Moreover for the first time I came to know that they provide you a certificate having the accuracy and water pressure testing report which then no longer required for a COSC certificate. Thanks once again for enhancing our knowledge with your such big effort.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  Před 4 lety +1

Imran Chowdhury First of all THANK YOU for sharing your thoughts and the positive feedback. You name it: When testing a watch like Glashütte Original does the COSC certificate is pretty obsolete, yet might be seen as „kiddie stuff“. COSC testing, as I already explained somewhere here in the comment section, today can only be the base for additional though and rigorous testing. COSC only tests the movement. If you want to be serious you have to test the entire ready-to-sell-watch. And this is what Glashütte Original does. It’s good for both sides - the manufacturer and the customer - since both know that the watch will work properly. Glashütte Original deserves much more attention and I am so happy to read that I was able to bring some useful information to my viewers...

WatchAdvisor been saying on You Tube posts this model as well as the Blancpain are the ones to get instead of a Rolex Submariner. When I have the cash I will be getting one. Couldn’t get catalogue last week, got Breguet; Cartier; Zenith and Vacheron Constantin. I like the dial and hands and the case looks good. Does the clasp have micro adjustment. My Rolex 116719BLRO was 20 seconds a day fast so could not have been tested like this.

After having owned the watch for three weeks now, I can say the following. The rate deviation in a week is actually 1 second. simply sensational! The additional rubber strap with folding clasp is a bit too long for a 18 cm wrist. I'm there in the penultimate hole. Buyers with slim arms must therefore switch to the fabric strap or steel strap. Overall, a high-end watch at a relatively low price. If you are looking for something special and still want to stand out from the crowd, you should grab it. pure understatement and still exclusivity.

Glashutte had the inside track from that point and I looked at every brand. Once the divers came out it was just a matter of time. Your videos and other reviews finally did it. Thank you and GO for sharing this with us. A privilege to see such thorough engineering. For me, GO are becoming the German JLC and I'm very pleased to see them focussing on quality and horological innovation. Thanks to SWATCH for giving them their freedom. However, while I'd buy the SeaQ Date in a heartbeat (and a Pano and a Senator Observer!), I'm not a fan of their large sizing - very Glashutte. 43mm for a luxury diver is very large and while the SeaQ is a 39mm, it's an inferior (though still solid) legacy movement. Nonetheless, one I see coming to my collection!

Same applies for SUVs and many more luxury goods ... The 39 mm is a very good offer and the calibre used (even being older) still a very good one ...

I got the blue one today, I was surprised that the large size looked good on my wrist, I usually wear seamaster, sub, speedmaster or reverso, so when my wife said the watch "looked like me" I bought it and am wearing it as I type this. Do not let the size put you off, the way it's designed it does not appear oversized. I can confirm the fit and finish is a step up from my other 2 divers more in line with my JLC.
Operationally my job deals with the sea and this is more legible for my work. It may just be that I'm getting older but it is easier for me to read.

@@69opsman Thanks for that feedback - always invaluable to hear from a real-world user. Like you, I use my dive watches as intended. But while I have many divers of the Tuna, Marinemaster, Planet Ocean, Sea-Dweller type, I'm finding it hard to find a daily-wear piece with high levels of watchmaking, that is not so thick/slightly smaller. Blancpain, GO and GS (new stunners on the way!) are the obvious options, but all are 15mm/43mm+, save the Bathyscaph (not a fan) and SeaQ. But, I shall take your advice and try on the SeaQ Pano! That movement really is special and as I move into middle age, I also see the advantage of the big date! Thanks.

However stringent the testing & quality control, on some rare occasions luck does play a role. I was a bit unlucky that I encountered a problem with my SeaQ Panorama Date 6 months into ownership. A tiny little screw in the movement broke and got stuck under the rotor making it unable to turn / wind the watch. Sent it back to Glashutte. The Customer Service Manager, Hardy Koppe was very professional and helpful. Upon checking they discovered that the batch of screws that was used for my SeaQ was not up to their specification. All was taken care of and everything is well & good now.
My only gripe is Swatch Group in my country is not taking good care of Glashutte Original as a brand. The after sale service is mediocre to say the least.
It is a sad scenario because I just love Glashutte Original.

I really, really wish Glashutte was not owned by the Swatch Group. It ruins this whole 95% in-house thing. Hard to be "independent" when you're owned by a multinational conglomerate

300m water resistance and only a 2-year warranty is singularly unimpressive.

300 meters not enough? How deep do you want to go? 2 years could be better, but anyhow there will always be accommodating solutions... Just in case... So why worry?

Sir, am sure you could also make no less romantic marketing film on how Rolex replica watches are being made in the factory at remote China Yunan mountains, and that long journey it takes until those wristwatches reach wrists of less financially fortunate people. Thank you.

Are you aware of the history of Glashütte Original? Do you know the brand? Have you heard about the diver launched in 1969? I don’t think so! Since then you wouldn’t have written that comment! This diver has ZERO to do with Rolex - sorry!
