    This instalment of the ICE Tech Guide shows how to track the front wheels on your trike. Tracking is the alignment of the front wheels. If the trike is not tracked properly it can affect the handling and lead to uneven tyre wear. All ICE trikes have their tracking factory set, so if your trike is new it is ready to ride. You will need to check the tracking if you change steering parts, if you crash or knock your trike, or as part of a routine service. Tracking is done the same way on all current ICE trike models. Watch this technical guide to learn how to track your trike correctly.

    Please Note: These videos are intended as a guide and assume competence of the person working on the trike. If you are unsure of your ability carry out the work, or of the safety of your trike please contact an ICE approved dealer to carry out the work for you. Ensure your trike is safe to ride at all times.

    Two additions would be helpful:
    1) Some advice on how to get the steering precisely centered before starting the alignment process.
    2) A thread count telling how many threads can safely be exposed. This relates to #1 in that a very small degree of mis-centering can result in quite a large difference in threads exposed left and right.

    I currently have an issue of with extreme front tire wear, and I didn't know how to realign the front wheels. I am an Ice Trike owner but my misalignment isn't on my ICE trike but from another maker (AZUB). I think of ICE is the maker of the best trikes out there. To bad you no longer make the Sprint RS with 20" all around. Thanks for the great instruction video.

    This would work with Greenspeeds as well with a few minor changes.

    Nice, clear video. You could add a note that some of the tracking rod nuts work the 'wrong' way !

    I thought toe in was a compensation for thrust? The top of wheel to center line would decrease due to rider weight.

    It's not easy to place an order for an ICE recumbent E-Trike. Who do you submit the order to? How do you make payment? I don't have a dealer anywhere around where I live. I've watched CZcams videos from several dealers on the West Coast, southwest and Canada. Likewise, I just sent a request to the ICE itself. This trike seems to be the best, but if you cannot get it, what's the point?

      @Icetrikes  Před 8 měsíci

      Simply configure your trike on our website and send it to ICE HQ or to your local dealer if you have one and we will do the rest. ICE or your local dealer will contact you to check over your order, and arrange payment and we can work out hthe best way to get you your trike. www.icetrikes.co/configure or if you have any problems simply contact us www.icetrikes.co/contact

    I wish ICE made these rods available - I'd gladly pay $$$ for them. Cattrike makes the Calibro which will work for the long one - but I want something similar for the short one. I can certainly get by with one of the make-shift tools but I'll probably machine something nicer.

    The best place to purchase tracking tools would be from a model hobby shop. They generally have fiberglass or brass tubes that can slide inside a larger diameter tube.

    Hey guys, thanks for the vid. I am after info on the dish of the front rims please.
    If possible, can you provide info on where the dishing tool should touch the rim and what part of the sturmy archer hub, for the rib to be dished correctly.
    Cheers Dave.

    When you set up the tracking does it have to be from a imagery horizontal line across the wheel rims or can you measure it from just below the imagery horizontal line..?

    • @hypahippy
      @hypahippy Před 4 lety

      When I say horizontal line I also mean from the widest part of the main frame to the rim..

    • @chrisridethatbloodything2044
      @chrisridethatbloodything2044 Před 8 měsíci

      It does not have to be exactly at the horizontal line. You would messure the same a few inches up or down.

  • @GrumpyG63
    @GrumpyG63 Před 5 lety

    Thanks but...surely once you’ve set one wheel from the frame you can use your adjustable pole to set the other side front to the same distance from the frame? Am I missing something or have you overcomplicated a simple job?

    • @Icetrikes
      @Icetrikes  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Graham. Doing the first wheel from the frame gives you your starting point and makes sure your trike will be traveling in the right direction but to get an accurate 'toe in' on the wheels, it is necessary to do wheel to wheel. It gives a much more accurate track. Hope this helps.

    • @GrumpyG63
      @GrumpyG63 Před 4 lety +1

      ICE Trikes Ok thanks. Not sure I can do it but I’ll give it a try. Currently my Adventure has one wheel about 2cm further from the frame at the front and the steering shakes like a mad thing hands off. I’ve done loads of bike maintenance and building over the years but this is a new problem for me.
      The trike (secondhand from ebay) is amazing otherwise - I have gone from zero cycling since the illness came along 20 years ago to a 14 mile round trip into Plymouth on Drake’s Trail last week - really pleased!

    @bobcatt2294 Před 9 lety

    Kind of confused, you are ultimately measuring between the distance of the front and backs of the front wheels. Why measure from the main spar of the trike. Why not just zero in both front and back distances than add 1 mm to each front adjustment wheel for toe in?

    • @Icetrikes
      @Icetrikes  Před 9 lety +1

      Bobcatt22 The wheels need to be parallel with each other and the trike itself. If you do not track the first wheel to the frame, the wheels will never be parallel to the steering assembly, only to each other.

    I lost all interest when you said that you guys have all the proper tools and we would have to be creative. How can you possibly do an instructional video with that kind of crap!

    • @Icetrikes
      @Icetrikes  Před 6 lety +3

      Hi Geoff. Sorry this put you off. The tracking on our trikes is factory set and would only ever need to be adjusted if replacing steering parts or checked after any potential bad crashes. This means this job is a rare one. Our tools were made in house by us because we have to do this job about 10 times every day. Unfortunately it is not practical to produce these tools for the market because the need is so small. As far as we know, there is no one else making tracking tools. Our home made suggestions have all been tried and found to work fine.
