Thank you very much! I tried out plenty of ketchup recipes in the last couple of weeks with cooking, pureeing, seving and all of them were either way too sweet because of massive amounts of sugar and syrup or completely vinegary, definitely not very edible. Your recipe is by far the closest to what I was looking for and it is so easy to make! ItÂŽs a pleasure for me to give you the 1000th like on this video! :-D
Thank you for uploading this. I ran out of ketchup and I told my hubby that we'd start making our own food whenever possible because we want to know what goes into our food. Heinz doesn't exactly have a good reputation at the moment. I'll feel much better making it myself. đâ€đđšđŠ
Good for you..
I like the way you get right to the point unlike others who spend so much time talking and explaining every little detail that I lose interest quickly. Maybe I,m just too impatient but i,m glad I found you. You are straight to the point, interesting as hell and easy to understand and copy. Thank you.
Thank you Lorna..
My son is a t sauce addict. I made this. He loves it. I also added some kelp powder and magnesium
Steve, I ran out of ketchup without realizing it. Had friends come over for a late-night card tournament, and we got the munchies. I grilled up some burgers, fried up some fries - no ketchup in the damn refrigerator?!?! Searched youtube for dealing with this emergency, and your video gave us the best-damned ketchup I'd ever had. Thank you for this recipe. I don't think I am ever repurchasing ketchup.
Awesome đđ
Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this. God bless!đ
i cooked your version and added a little more vinegar. came out perfect! thanks steve. regards Laszlo.
thank you!! i need to try this
Thank you for posting this!!! You are THE BEST!
Thank you..
Brilliant recipe. Kids are really loving this!
That was great. Thank you
Great video! I'm going to to try this as a base to my BBQ sauce recipe instead of using store bought ketchup!
I have a very similar recipe which uses regular white vinegar instead of white wine vinegar. Thank You, Steve for not calling ketchup 'tomato sauce'.
Quick, simple recipe with exact ingredients. Thank you!! :)
Glad you like it!
Thank you for this đđŸâ€ïž
Thanks Steve much appreciated
Most fastest way of making ketchup in whole world. Thank you đđđđđđđđđ
Steve, that looks soooo good! I have all of those ingredients so guess what I'll be making tomorrow morning!! đ đ
Excellent.. Give it a few days to mature.. And read Mikes Comments here for some more tips..
@@Steve-Owens so whats happend ? :DD
Iâm so glad I found you ! I will be trying this tomorrow! My husband loves ketchup and I bet he will love this !
Did u try it ?how did it come ?
Cheers Steve! Trying this one for sure!!
Thank you buddy,
Straight to the point thank you
Wow that was amazing!
Thanks
I love your cooking channel!! Great work buddy! đ
Thanks.. :)
FREAKING AWESOME!
Thanks
Brilliant Thank You for sharing this x
I made my ketchup with a tin of tomatoes and used candarel sugarly instead of brown sugar as I'm diabetic it worked so well and didn't cost me ÂŁ2.80 for the named brand of ketchup. I'm really pleased I found your video to inspire me xxx
Brilliant.
thanks going to try this
Excellent as always, Steve đđ
Thank you Nikki
Heyyyyyy, thanks Steve. I really needed something quick and easy to make my own ketchup, appreciate you!!!
Any time!
You are such a good teacher! I love how your show want to do and explain the details without a lot of fluffy chatter. I have to adapt your ideas because I am on Keto and I am a diabetic. I would like to thank you for your excellent videos. Cheers
Thanks for tacking time to say..
You deserve the compliment!
Thanks, I of course meant taking, not Tacking.. LOL, so much typing and not my favourite hobby :)
Same for me - I have problems with my left and right hand cooperating when I try to type.
Home made is always best made except when it comes to tomato pastes, which use an initial 80c to 100c juice liberation stage but then use very low temperatures in a vacuum chamber to pull off that water, and a final pasteurizing step once canned/bagged. A tip for the cans (was a common tip in the '70s but paste isn't as used generally today) open both ends, then let gravity and one lid push the contents out, retrieve the lids once it is in the bowl, works a charm. Left over paste (if you have any) can be portioned in ice trays and frozen for later use.
Great tip, one I knew but often forget to use. Hope this helps others.. :)
Ive got to admit, Heinz is my number 1 guilty pleasure when it comes to sauces. No other brand compares but i might have to try your recipe because it looks delicious!
When I replace my Heinz with this, I can't tell the difference.
@@Steve-Owens so if you use 2 cans of the tomatoes do you use twice the amounts of the other ingredients ??
Perfect! I had to use a jar of passata but it came good! Next time, I'll follow this recipie. God bless đđŸ â€ïž
You're welcome
What a great idea honey.
Cinnamon, cloves & all spice
Iâd have never guessed they were in ketchup.
Bet some garlic powder would great too.
I have everything needed, think Iâll give it a try.
Have you ever had mushroom ketchup, Iâve
heard about it but havenât tried it.đ
I've seen it but I don't recall having it Leslie.. Garlic would work well and this is much lower in Sugar that regular Ketchup but you can't really tell by the taste.. I suspect a sugar alternative like mesquite would be great in this?? What do you think?
Great reciept I always have a go at Steves baking tips and as he says they are better than any super market Hes Right
Glad you like them! đ
Im new in your channel, but i already watched like 5 vids.
you are great, i love your vids and your recipes!
Welcome to the Channel Ivan..
delish! đđđ”
Ketchup made the way it ought to be by Steve Owens. His mayonnaise looks great too! Now, like lots of people, I buy my condiments, ready-made, for the sake of convenience. Perhaps, one day, I should take the time to make my favorite sauces from scratch, even HP Sauce. Thank you. #OlMrSqueaks, #NothingBeatsHomemade
Huh, that tomato paste trick sounds like it could be brilliant for those who really don't have the time to be prepping and boiling tomatoes for hours. Also since you are making small batches instead of masses at once it looks way faster for that reason as well and you don't have to worry about canning and storing for long periods of time. Looks like it could be awesome. I'll have to see if I can do something similar with tomato sauce although the recipe might need a bit of adjusting to make the quantity that small. Thanks for the tip!! :)
Thanks. I takes seconds to make up and I just put it back in the Bottle, so for Aus Dollars .90c I get an almost full bottle of great tasting Sauce, which lasts long enough.. And if I like and can add a little chilli in there to give my Ketchup a kick, which is nice. Have fun making it. Steve
Steve's Kitchen use Roma mater's. Cull all seeds and blanch the to materĂ
Steve, thanks for the poke. The sugar and vinegar was a good change, brown sugar and white wine vinegar should make a change. I remember Brooks Ketchup from Indiana State before they moved to Canada (can order it from the blue store at shop or online from the jungle). So I did add 1/4 tsp of cayanne powder. To help develop flavor, hot water bath in sealing jars for a week or two. Then put in serving container and always use within a week or flavors oxidize (not good news). On a side note, one could add an appropriate amount of curing salt by weight for preservation (having not tried this but saw it in a very old press of hot bath methods).
Take care from Oklahoma,
Mike and Vee
Welcome Mike and Vee and good thoughts. Curing salts aren't probably going to add any great value, they are basically just Nitrates which is good to stop pork from spoiling but I don't think they'll have that effect on Tomato. The Salt and Sugar are the main curing Agents in the Ketchup, to make it last a lot longer you can heat the sauce to about 160F (to be safe) to kill any bacteria before canning.. Plus a little extra on the regular salt and you'd have something you can sell in the stores :o)
Fascinating to have a Sauce that is almost your namesake.. LOL. I think this Recipe is a Base sauce that we can all tinker with, spices and the like, to get some very interesting results.. :o)
Making my own ..from today. thanks
How about making some Mushroom Ketchup? Or Catsup if you prefer. It's a condiment that very few people here in the U.S. have even heard of let alone tried. Love the videos Steve! Good job.
Thanks, maybe one day :o)
Excellent. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Namaste ;)

Can you do a recipe for peanut sauce? Its eaten much in indonesia and the netherlands. Its great with chicken and fries.
I will have to make this at home
Thank you.
Welcome.
Thank you so much for this recipe. Can you use Apple Cider Vinegar instead of white wine?
I have to try this - Brilliant Recipe! I've subscribed! One question - How did you get into cooking?
It's comes from a love of good food and needing to know how to make it.
Very nice, homemade condiments... what could be better.
Well.. I know what I'm making next. Thanks Steve.
Hope you enjoy
Hey Steve can I use another vinegar? Thanks for the lovely recipe.
Hey Steve. thanks for the video. Instead of the white wine vinegar what else do you recommend as a substitute?
It needs the Vinegar, can you not get it?
Thanks for the recipe, looks very easy to make and I can't wait to try it myself! Only problem for me is that I don't know what is the equivalent of all spice in my country. :D
What country? All spice is a spice by itself and available almost anywhere online
Cool shirt. Thanks, I know what I'm doing later today.
Yum
Hey Ruby.
This is the BEST recipe!!!!!! Can it be heated and canned?
Yes, absolutely
wow
I just made this it was amazing
Thanks
Did it have that zing like Heinz does?
@@zootheory9647 You do realise Heinz uses more sweetener than spice. Thatâs all I smell is the high fructose corn syrup.
@Sir_Axiom Thanks, didn't think of that. Really, is that with zing comes from?
Hi, Steve. Your ketchup turned out amazing. What's your best tip for making homemade mustard? Have a good day, good buddy.
Byron Chandler hiya Byron always see you on the comment of the live videos Steve does thought I'd say hi and have a good weekend.
It's fairly easy to make Byron, I will add it to my list..
Musard seed, white vinegar or white wine vinegar, salt, and tumeric. No measurements yet... DOH! I am still working on small batches. Mustard flour may be used to cut the heat. A bit of ground horseradish brings the spice to life. Still working on a basic salad mustard, German mustard, and hot mustard. The lady of the house only likes mustard on smoked salmon. I try to trick her using old-refilled mustard bottles... Getting closer and will send Steve what passed and then he can amend it for the World to see.
Take care from Oklahoma
Mike and Vee
Cheers Mike.. :)
I know you've done brown sauce, branston but please, please can you do me other favourite from home ? Piccalilli ! Keep up the good work my friend. :)
Been planning to for a long long time.. Sorry, I will some day.
Maybe I'll pass you my mother-in-laws recipe to try out
Hi Steve I made the sauce to day, but made it with a jar of 500ml Coles tomato paste, it made approx 800mils of tomato sauce, I have put the bottles in the fridge, how long will it last for, in the fridge, my wife said it was great
Wow! George that's heaps. I have kept it in the kitchen cupboard for a month no problem but it's hard to say for sure. I expect as long as store bought.. Just keep an eye on it..
Looks yum Steve. If made in bulk, will it keep long.? Thanks for sharing, & take care. â€âșđ¶
No worries Steve, just found out on your older video. LOL. â€đ¶âș
LOL.. Yes sorry it lasts for ages.. Read my reply to Mike too.. :o) Might be of interest.
Steve's Kitchen If it tastes as good as it looks, it won't last long. LOL. I'll make 3 or 4 bottles at a time. Thanks Steve. Take care. â€đ¶âș
Hey Steve, nice to see you in a different format. I love that Ketchup recipe mate. I am going to make that tomorrow. Cheers mate. regards to the lovely Michelle and enjoy that trip around Viet Nam. Cheers!
I used to make this all the time to avoid all the sugar they put in Ketchup.. Let me know what you think..
@@Steve-Owens No worries Steve. When I get the chance I want to also make that Recipe you had for Beef Jerky. I would love to get my hands on some haddock as I miss the Arbroath Smokies. I wonder which fish is closest to Haddock? Cheers my friend, and than you for a fast response
Steve i've cut sugar out of my diet, which of the alternatives can i use, erythritol, stevia drops, sucralose, if any?
Any of the above, Sugar is not essential, maybe Mesquite or Stevia yes..
Make date syrup instead. Natural sugar. Boil dates and put them in a blender. You can add zest if you want.
Can you can it and preserve it for future use
How long does it keep in the frig?
I don't keep it in the fridge, it stays in the larder for many weeks.. It it lasts that long..
How long will it last in the fridge?
Can you use white vinegar instaed of wine vinegar
Yes
Red sauce and chips anyone oh yes red sauce is delicious it's good for you. Plus it has health benefits too.. I have read up about it.
Red Sauce, LOL we have so many names for this Sauce hey Kelly.. Tommy Sauce. Red Sauce Ketchup...
Steve's Kitchen love a bit of ketchup on anything good related such as savouries. Which one do you like to have on your breakfast?
BÌ€ÌrÌ€ÌáčłÌmÌ€ÌĂ€Ì€ĂŻÌ€cÌ€ÌĂ€Ì€nÌ€Ì gŃαl87 oh good lord that sounds amazing right now! With a slice of buttered bread đđđ
Steve's Kitchen yes tomato sauce though I find it weird that in America they call pasta sauce tomato sauce lol they usually refer to our tomato sauce as ketchup
I was once on a cruise and a French waiter kept calling it "American sauce" in a very disdainful French voice.
Hi, one of my favorites is chipotle mayonnaise. Itâs a killer. Thank you,
Thank you too.
How many days can this be stored in the fridge?
Eugen_int64 I was thinking the same thing
How long is the shelf life of this or average please if anyone knows ?
I usually find a month or two..
Made big batch delish.
Hey Toni... It'll just get better with a bit of time also :o)
Can I use passata? I have 2 24oz jars
I'm not sure it will be concentrated enough but you could certainly try a small batch and let us all know.. đ
How long will this last without spoiling?
Weeks and weeks
Do you encourage this recipe for mass production???
Wow, sure doesn't taste like tomato juice. Thanks Brian 77
Great :)
Hee hee, just made made some and it worked. I live in NZ and the HP sauce here is so different and tasteless. I don,t usually buy tomato ketchup but couldn,t resist this time. It tastes good.
Thanks Lorna
ok it's ketchup, but there's no attempt to capture the spices in heinz. on their label 'spice' is the ingredient after salt and before onion powder, so it is deeply spiced. there is also 'natural flavoring'. so ya, anyone can mix those ingredients and produce a normal-tasting ketchup, but gotta give this a FAIL on recreating heinz
Don't be so stupid.. Make it and then give it a fail if you like but to make a judgement from and armchair is just plain dumb
Ketchuo ok... but orange white black... where is the yt switch to b/w? đ
That you might turn your whole world to Vanilla or Grey, what a dull place it would be.
Thanks to you and your vids my world stays full of nice colours đ
Ok in what country mustard powder exist, WTF ???
Hmmm Heinz has lots of preservative & then you go & use store bought tomate paste đ€Šđ»ââïžđ€·đ»ââïž
Yes... Exactly, it has no preservatives, it's a concentrated/reduced tomato paste, our you can make your own, ether way it's the same. as I think I explained LOL Silly billy
wow that's seems very legit.. I have neighbors doing their own "ketchup" and they were boiling it.. the smell was GROSSSSS.. result was a disgusting green poop chunky looking ketchup..
This is not anything like Heinz ketchup. I wasted good tomato puree on this.
Of course you did..
I have no idea whether this ketchup is any good, Iâll never know. Cause that shirt heâs wearing is messing with my head, I need to switch off.
Poor frail person.. you go rest your weary mind.. đđ
Made it, tasted like shit. Why all the cinnamon
Then you didn't
Terrible taste, I should have realized after the brown sauce one, that was god awful too, this is definitely for the American taste
Let's face it you haven't made it or got a clue.. move along..
what would be the shelf life of this sauce aprox?
If you keep things clean, 1 or 2 years easily
@@Steve-Owens understood. Your chefs jacket is awesome btw
Thank you.
Welcome!
