- 60 fps upscaled footage of the 1964 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch (please watch in 720p60). The video starts with a pre-race onboard footage of Jim Clark, who went on to win the race. This video is monetized by British Pathé (Content ID claim)
British Pathé's original film footage - "1964 European Grand Prix: Formula One Racing at Brands Hatch" [ • 1964 European Grand Pr... ] - Sport
He was Senna's hero ... Senna had a painting commissioned of all the F1 world champions and he told the painter to save the middle spot for Jim Clark ... in 1965 Jim Clark won the F2 championships of France and Great Britain, the southern hemisphere Tasmanian championship, Indianapolis 500 by 2 minutes on his first attempt and the F1 world Championship ... he still holds to this day more grand slams than any other driver (8), he still holds the biggest ever victory margin in a F1 grand prix of 5 minutes .. He once drove an F1 race and won with one hand on the stearing wheel and one on the gear lever because the gears kept slipping ... and there are more story like this ... when his cars were stripped down after a race the parts were still prostine compared to his othervteam drivers car ... He was simply the perfect driver ... need i go on
Wow
" he still holds the biggest ever victory margin in a F1 grand prix of 5 minutes .. He once drove an F1 race and won with one hand on the stearing wheel and one on the gear lever because the gears kept slipping" ........ it was the same race: spa 1963.
that makes it even more unbelievable
@@sz6498 and won the race by 30 seconds
@@ace3146 actually 4 minutes and 54 seconds
2nd attempt at Indianapolis although many would argue that morally he won it on the first as Parnelli Jones should have been black flagged due to leaking oil all over the track. You are right though, he was simply "the best"
What I like the most about those sixties inboard takes is how you see the suspension work.
Not sure what you mean.
I like watching how many times they have to correct it... If Sim Racing is anywhere near the difficulty of controlling the car I would never have drove it
the suspension was very soft back in those days ;)
For some reason I think it's satisfying looking at the suspension
Back when being a F1 spectator was as suicidal as being a driver
Almost as dangerous as group b spectators
Hell with the obesity rate in America watching it at home is just as deadly
They were protected by hay bales!
In group b spectators went on the road
as is nowadays in Isle of Man TT
I can't imagine how hard would've been for the families, watching their beloved ones sit on a coffin with wheels on every race, and the relief of watching them finish the race alive. That's extreme
sorry for bad english
Massive improvements in safety since then - the cars, the track and spectator safety have all improved 100% since then and deaths are very rare in modern GPs
@@michaelhalsall5684 You can see the fear on that winners face.
back them they were brave and masculine , now they are tamed and wusses
Jimmy was smoth as glass whenever he drove these death machines
Absolute legend and a terrible loss for the racing world
Jim was the best, no doubt about it. Along with Fangio, the greatest natural talent ever. Smooth as silk.
This is very impressive quality footage !
It’s obviously been digitally edited that’s why
@@CricketEngland Thank you, captain obvious :D
@@CricketEngland how was that edited?
There's no effects,There's no cuts
How was that edited tho
@@coleslawwwww so you think this is the original filmed footage from the 60’s do you.... all his videos are digitally enhanced I mean 60 camcorder footage was really this good was it...
@@coleslawwwww psst, read the description
Jim Clark. The finest of them all.
Every video of yours looks like it was shot in the late 90's/early 2000's when the reality is much more impressive. This is top tier stuff, i was born much too late to experience this era and I feel like I'm really there with each of your videos. Keep up the awesome work !!
That’s because all the videos have been digitally enhanced from the original after all when did they have camera in 1964 to film at 60fps
Anonymous #1 the quality is even better than a lot of the 90s and 2000s stuff
@@CricketEngland Loads of film cameras will do at 60fps even in the 60s.
Personally this digital "mastering" looks a bit pants to me would rather see the film grain a bit more.
A lot of people are doing this on YT now and they just let the AI make all the decisions.
Just tone down the digital enhancements until you know what you are doing.
@@CricketEngland I thought that must be so. Well it looks absolutely great.
This is when F1 cars were proper racing cars. How lovely to see a driver actually changing gears with a proper gear box having to take his right hand off the steering wheel. Superb video. Wish modern day motor racing was this good.
I agree. One of my favorite racing movies is Grand Prix. The plot or story line wasn’t the best but cinematography of the racing scenes was second to none. Those were just pure racing cars.
This is when F1 cars were suicide boxes, and crashing usually meant dying. The fuel tank wrapped around you, tyre pressures were through the roof and the tyres were hard as rock. Suspension was bouncy and clunky, and the engine blew up if you let the RPM's get too high, and the seatbelts were, well, absent.
I would have to say that real racing cars died in the early 2000's, but these machines? These weren't racing cars, they were death machines.
Manual gearboxes were in F1 all the way up to the mid 90s, last car with manual was Forti FG01 in 1995.
When did the old F1 cars have 4 gears?
@@hyperboytkl1077 Early days, really early days. 5 gears was common in the late 60's.
Never thought we could have a 1964 F1 race video with such a high quality ! The fight between Clark and Hill was epic these days..
In 64 I was 11. I remember watching these races on wide world of sports and what a thrill it was. Slot car racing was starting to really catch on and there was one track we went to in my older brothers Austin Healy 3000. The track was totally decked out with scenery and they had weekend races there all the time. My car was a formula 1 painted to look like Jim Clark’s car. Those were the times they were.
Stromberg XKE and D
I was 15, HO scale slots. We customized the stock car bodies into Porsche and Ferrari GT’s. Pretty large basement set up. 😊
You were lucky. I wanted to do slot car racing, but didn't have the money. I bought or stole a Road & Track or Car & Driver every several months and watched Wide World of Sports, in BW.
His driving was so smooth, it is satisfying to watch
It's weird to think about, that of the shown drivers Mclaren and Clark didn't even make through to 72, or even the through the sixties in Clark's case. But Brabham and Surtees made into the 2010s, and Moss to 2020, and he was in the very first F1 season.
@1.24 "Leads Graham Hill into the bend". How wonderful that Graham Hill Bend is now so close to where that quote was said
Jim was such a humble soul. By all accounts he is one of the greatest racing drivers ever to grace the circuits and yet on his gravestone it says "Jim Clark - Farmer" before listing his racing accolades.
I love it! Jim Clark is one of the most overlooked and underrated racing drivers. I count him as one of the greatest 5-10 drivers of all time. I’ve never seen a driver more respected by fellow drivers, mechanics, team owners, and fans than he was. And this was before his death. It is sad to think of what he may have achieved, what his legacy would be, had he not been lost in ‘68.
Appreciate the respect but Jim Clark is widely regarded as probably one of the best of sll time
Underrated ???? JIM CLARK is worldwide regarded as "the by far greatest driver of all time" !!!
I think the problem is that he's not talked about much today, except among historically-minded people. Not many of todays fans were around before Senna and Schumacher.
@@LeoWuerde👍🇦🇺
The greatest of all time if you ask me
Thanks for posting these - it really is a transformation in every sense: the more naturalistic colour grading of this makes it seem much more 'real' than any contemporary colour footage
Back when racing drivers weren't the prima donnas they are today. Never saw the great man race as he had died before I was born but Jim Clark was one of the greatest of all time. He could have raced a shopping trolley and he would have won
The 18 seconds of onboard footage was pretty cool.
Jim Clark is the single greatest driver of all time and nobody can convince me otherwise
True can’t agree more
Nah. I could agree if there wasn't a certain brazilian alien called Senna!!!
スターリング・モス卿のランク付けによると、最高はマヌエルファンジオ、次がジム・クラーク 3番目は誰か忘れた、4番目がセナ、5番目がハミルトンだった
@@Kilas73 Senna's hero was Clark.
Man, the upscaling, higher framerate, and color grading really makes this seem all the more real. Obviously this was a real race in 1964 but everything is so vivid. It feels like it could’ve been shot very recently.
50年以上60年前の言うのが信じられない程の画質映像
映像の美しさ、鮮明さにびっくり。1964年のイギリスGPという事はホンダのF1デビュー(ドイツGP)直前のレースですね。
These were the days when men were men...
Machines were machines...
and racing was racing.
Man and machine against men with machines.
Love those old cars and their magnificent drivers.
Jim Clark was the best of the best.
Fantastic video! Jim Clark was the greatest!
Very beautifully remastered! Thank you, for this step back into history!
A lot of this footage looks like a revival meeting filmed a few years ago. I know a lot of people don't approve of digitally altering the footage but it's great to see footage this old looking so "new".
What a different era, more dangerous more inviting, a more unadulterated era in racing for sure!!! I feel so privileged to have seen the old Wide World of Sports footage of late 70's early 80's F1 racing. To have seen Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Ayrton Senna(RIP) flying around different tracks always right on the limit, F1 was very exciting then, it would be nice to have a more unadulterated racing experience like that again, no traction control or any of those electronic nannies, equal cars would be great as well, then we would know who is indeed the best pilot!!!
Skinny tires, manual gearboxes, no aero package, no telemetrics, no pit crew radio - just the driver, the car and the track. If we could have this and the current safety features racing would be "pure" again.
Fabulous, just fabulous! Thank you.
If Jim never tragically passed I feel he could’ve won many more championships. He was truly a driving talent we don’t see very often.
Brilliant! Fantastic bit of 'upgrading' on the footage, and if F1 was as exciting to watch now as it was then, then I would watch it.
Juan Manuel fangio himself said that the 1960’s era had the hardest cars to drive
Amazing stuff, thanks for the upload mate 😀😀😀
This brings "remastered" to a whole new level
What a Legend , Clark 👑
Amazing footage quality! Like it was shot on film just a few years ago.
Awesome footage
this channel is fantastic! thanks and keep it coming!!
Great course and great cars. Manual gear shifting.....what a concept!
Wow ,I I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s feels so much more real if that makes sense
I attended a race at brands hatch in 1962😍
beautiful remaster.
Great footage.
incredible to see this videos
Great video quality well done :-).
1:29 Badass cameraman
Dang cameraman really runs fast
Unbelievable what these guys did with these cars. Using an actual clutch and 5 speed. Much more of a physical challenge whereas todays F1 drivers have a more difficult mental challenge with all the shit they have on their steering wheels. Great video.
I'd say modern F1 drivers actually have a more physical challenge. The G forces are higher than that of the 60s, probably hotter in the cockpit too due to being more enclosed.
If I'm being honest. Back then you could be out of shape (chain-smoking) but a good driver and you'd still be competitive. Can't do that nowadays. (In any high level motorsport for that matter).
Wow the quality 👌👌👌 thank you for the upload 🤘🤘🤘
These were great cars by fearless driver's totally dedicated to the sport fangio was the greatest ever f1 driver and Jimmy Clark I can't say who was the greatest but both on very level peggings although Jimmy Clark raced saloon cars and f2 car's but fangio 5 time's world champion in 4 different makes of car's these were both the greatest of the greatest best race driver's only sir jackie stewart beating Jim clarks 25 gp wins by adding another 2 macking j Stewart 27 gp wins which stood for many years these are the best of the greatest driver's in the world before any electronics came into play R.I.P.JUAN MANUEL FANGIO AND JIMMY CLARK AND ALL THE OTHER DRIVERS WHO HAVE DIED TO ALL REST IN PEACE GUYS THERE MUST BE CAR RACING IN HEAVEN TILL WE ALL MEET AGAIN
I would love to see modern F1 drivers try to drive these insane cars
They would literally shit a brick if they raced these car's
Cool to see the old rpm tachs not update as fast as a modern one
Wonderful quality
Good quality colored footage. Such a rarity from the era.
Jim clark is the most underrated driver ever
The most underrated driver ???? JIM CLARK is worldwide regarded as the by far grestest driver of all times !!!!
He is not underrated. He is well know as one of the greatest drivers ever
Настоящие мужчины! Настоящие болиды! Настоящие эмоции!
Fantástic vídeo , good Job my friend Biglike from Charles Zoellner Chanel 😃👍
Seems unfair that Bruce McLaren missed out on getting a Brands corner named after him.
ジム・クラークは、ロータスになくてはならい天才だった
Really have a big balls for driving this thing with the 60s safety riding style...
I love the upbeat music.
Looks like it was shot last weekend!
This was the year I was turned on to European road racing by my buddy Chris. Never looked back. Jim Clark was a wonderful ambassador to the sport. I was amazed when I read an interview report that he drove a Ford saloon with automatic transmission for everyday use. I thought that car was only for parents!😂😂
His most often personal car was a Lotus Ford Cortina with manual gear shifting. He also won the British Touring Car Championship in one. Held it leaning over on its tires (suspension lean) nearly the whole way. Ford sponsored him so Clark did do some promotional videos for less sporty Ford products, which probably accounts for the automatic transmission impression/account.
@@carlcushmanhybels8159 I was going to mention that comment I read in Road and Track back in the day. Interesting that it might not be true.
How any of them survived a race is amazing
Some of them in the video survived on that race to die on another. It was a coffin on wheels shaped like a cigar
He must have won the championship several years if
it were not for the tragic accident.RIP
貴重な映像で感激
this is what modern f1 cars should look like. with the safety halo ofcourse
The best friend of Graham Hill and so is he the winner of Indianapolis 500 race.
I wonder how Clark would have done in full seasons with the Lotus 49 and the 72. His skills were exceptional.
この映像に今のF1風にドライバーの順位とか付け加えたらいいかも。
後世に残しておくべき映像。
どうやってリマスターしとるんや…
That Lotus😍😍😍😍
The race is over 80 laps. Today it's over after turn one.
This is the highest 60s video quality I've ever seen
Agree. It is digitally enhanced remastered, done outstandingly.
Bunch of gentleman right there.
Pretty cars without the vile advertising.
映画用フィルムの情報量はものすごく多いとはいえ、それを1コマずつデジタル化しながら修復したんだろうか。
This looks like its was filled in the 90s
Magic beautiful incredible
Clark,Hill,Surtees,Brabham...compare to now.
Brands Hatch didn`t change that much...
perfect...
Even nowadays we are not sure about what happened in his accident.
Idk why but i love the way old British presenters said "Jim Clark"
awesome
Jim Clark myth!!! With Fangio, Senna and Schumacher, in the fantastic poker of the best
He is the greatest legend of all time. 👍👍

この時代のF1も面白そうw 今の撮影機材や通信技術で追いかけて欲しいね。ピットとドライバーの会話とかオンボード映像とか良いだろうね〜
This is true F1 and these were Pilots!
The visual impression of both motion and tone that is present in the original film stock has been lost here. God knows why.
Great circuit, Brands Hatch.
what if we AI Upscale this to 1080p too?
Very professional movie, in 1964
Open-wheel racing with narrow tires? Even braver. Easier to hook them up on another's. I find it frightening, but a gorgeous sight.
Arh the good old days when if you brought along a straw bale you could get as close to the track as you like.
An entirely different breed of a human being.
more impressive than the silly comments about this and that is how the actual camera is worked back then
SENNA, JIM CLARK E FANGIO SÃO OS MELHORES ELES ATINGIRAM INALCANÇÁVEIS.
Wrong order. For me it's Clark. But in truth it's probably Fangio, Clark, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton.
@@leehodgson6132 Lol...I would like to see Clark on a 1200hp turbo beast like Senna did. Senna reaction times and insane skills were simply unmatchable
Undoubtly Senna the GOAT. No doubt about it!!!
Eu colocaria o Graham Hill na lista dos 10+. O piloto foi o único a conquistar a tríplice coroa do automobilismo, 500M de Indianápolis, GP de Mônaco e 24h de Le Mans.
@@Kilas73 i would like to see senna driving a 50s and 60s car without suspention active and traction control like the Mclaren 93, and without the safety of the 90s, when if u made a mistake you was 70% chance of died.
