  • so it turns out you can easily build a little furnace or kiln for free from an old space heater. although i cant know for sure about its temperature until i get a thermocouple in there to measure directly.

    That cord was wrapped in a way that when you pull it it all comes undone but as cool as it looks is one of the worst ways to wrap cords. Loose coils are the best way and not twisted and there are ways to coil so you can throw it to uncoil it called "over under"

    This nichrome wire is fun to play with. I was toying around with a furnace idea last week using this stuff. I'm surprised it didn't break without the fan cooling it. Great video.

      Got a Tinker myself around the same age and at 34 it still rattles around my pocket and has the battle scars to prove the number times of its been indispensable though the scissors are getting hard to operate b/c a mixture of gooey material that no solvent seems to want to shift has gotten into it's hinge area and the spring for the pliers is missing completely (along with the tweezers and toothpick that fell out somewhere along the way lol) because it broke so I used a pin punch to drive the remaining piece from it's holder after almost cutting myself on it a couple times. Thing's literally saved my bacon more than once fixing things like a blown off radiator hose from a failed clamp when I was away from home and hadn't any proper tools in the car but could get a lift from the friends house I was near to the parts store for a new clamp and a gallon of coolant.

    That cable was wrapped like how you could pack the last bit of say paraglider lines or something that you can easily pull it and it comes apart untangled. You do it by pulling a loop within the last loop and repeat.

    Perfect use for your knife switch. Some years ago I was into home foundry stuff. I poured a furnace with grooves around the sides and put elements similar to yours in it. I could melt aluminum in it and where earlier I used a charcoal furnace, the electric could be used indoors. Very handy. I can see you getting refractory material in the future and pouring one to your specs.
    Once again Rin,,, well done.

    • @BixbyConsequence
      @BixbyConsequence Před 8 lety

      That works very well. In fact, the coils are the easiest part of this. You can get the Nichrome wire cheaply and form the coils to your exact needs very easily.. Before it's heated the wire is easily coiled around a dowel or other shape to form a coil. Once heated it becomes more stiff. I built a kiln for copper enameling and it worked quite nicely. Could get the interior to a bright yellowish-orange (hotter than I needed, I forget the temp). The fire bricks are key -- they keep the heat in. You can hold them together with refractory cement. "Sairset" Iirc.

    @anthonypoole6901 Před 7 lety

    Why don't you use a light switch in a j box instead of the breaker like that? the heat strip is a common item to find in heat pump heating and air furnaces . I'll give you another something you may try the compressor of a heat pump has a band around it at the bottom. it's called a crank case heater. this would be a more likely burn out . the heatstrips in certain pieces of appliances will run at a constant without burning out. but don't ever let one of those coils lay over and touch to itself . that will give you the burn out your looking for.

    I saw a dude's youtube video where he was instructing people how to wrap their extension cords like that... cuz then you can use it as a short cord without a bunch of extra tangled cord on the floor, or extend it and use it as a longer cord again.. seemed to make sense when I watched the video, but apparently not worth the effort as I forget what the method was exactly. PS your hair is silky smooth.

      Rinoa Super-Genius Power hammer eh? Why not use good old fashioned regular hammers :P. But in all seriousness, I know a couple of people who re-purposed arbor presses for use in blacksmithing, though that's more for initial shaping, the finishing portion being hand annealed. When I used to do my little hobbyist blacksmithing, I just used an open air charcoal forge with a leaf-blower for airflow. Just threw the stuff i was working into the coals for a while. Granted I mostly used scrap iron and steel since it was literally everywhere. Mostly made hammers, ax heads, brush hooks, and the odd really crappy sword. Because everyone wants to make a sword at some point.

    • @RinoaL
      @RinoaL  Před 8 lety +1

      no its not super dangerous. if the cat touches it then it will be given a swift reminder of why not to. and just dont trip. tripping is the fault of going too fast. as soon as i make a system live like this i slow down a lot so i can be sure of how to interact with it.

      HI
      I think it is a good idea, with a time schedule for when there are a new videos,,, Mine is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 14.00 my time :-) and Sunday also 14.00 if I have something extra,, usually something that falls outside of what i normally do. If you have a deadline,, it a lot easier to get it done :-)
      I have a video tomorrow Sunday, that was uploaded Wednesday,, this way I can be in front of the videos. But I need to edit Mondays video tomorrow night, but it is ready on my computer back home,, and not to long :-)

    I don't make videos. I admit I spend my free time watching boys that want to be girls I'm sorry your father was never there for you to tell you to put your shit up when you are finished using it. all I'm saying is finish a project once in awhile.
