Mary Shoemaker because it’s no longer entertainment.. it’s pandering to their audience and chasing that laugh. humping the stage and using the F work in every sentence is considered comedy now. 😕

Amen. And that first time he appeared on Steve's show, they spoofed his wife, Jane Meadows. Everyone except Jane knew what he was going to do, but she was told that he was a serious network exec, or some such story, and when he did his usual drunk act, the camera stayed on her face the whole time while she had this incredulous expression on it. She had this "How could he dare to show up intoxicated for this show?" demeanor during his entire appearance. It was hilarious!

I remember when these originally aired. And, one thing that made Dean lose it like he does (I saw an interview with someone, and according to him) is because Dean almost NEVER showed up for rehearsals. So he usually HAD NO IDEA WHAT Foster Brooks was going to say. In one of these scenes Dean is laughing so hard that tears run down his face and he dries them with a handkerchief.

Theres a podcast I download which is titled along the lines of "Retro Radio" that really was comedy.... The best comedy is through story telling. One liners are ok, only a few could really nail it in my opinion. Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg were two of the best there. But Abbot and Costello, Jack Benny, The Bickersons, Burns and Allen, (Early) Bill Cosby.... they were the best story tellers...

I just remember very vividly Dean Martin walking in a western saloon with an arrow in his chest and it caught my attention. Always seemed weird to me that it never left my memory for some unknown reason throughout all these decades. But whats more weird is that I would come across it after all these decades when I haven't seen it since then. I'm guessing about 1974?
