Finally! A true DIY video for folks who've never tiled. The rubber sanding block idea was perfect. I used a plastic putty knife instead of metal but the idea is perfect. Every other video is done by experienced tilers but they have forgotten what it's like to do this for the first time. Thank you thank you for a fresh approach that is geared for the first timer and has some really great ideas! You have a new subscriber!

An unsanded grout should have been used since the space between the tile was less than an eighth of an inch. Also grout should not be used in the vertical joint between the tile and the wall, it is an expansion joint and will crack later.

@@joaquinsuarez6090 you will want to use a caulk or silicone in those areas. Most grout manufacturers make a color match caulk. Those are expansion joints and will Crack if grout is used.

Appreciate the video. Our previous tilers have laid the grout and then just cleaned with a wet sponge. I first followed this technique from the video but the dry sponge didn't seem to do too much and the wet rag too often seemed to mess up my grout lines, even when i tried to avoid them. Toward the end I just switched to using a wet sponge, as i recalled having seen before, and it was a lot easier and seemed to produce better grout lines. Obviously I'm not a pro and don't really know what the downside of that approach may be...just my observation though

Thanks for the video - I see with the instruction that comes with premixed grout it says - Some ceramic, glass, marble, metal or stone tiles can be scratched or damaged by the quartz sand filler. Perform a test on a small area prior to use. What's your opinion on this?

Sanded or non sanded grout?Actually, the tile I have is very much smaller than what you have there. Spacers were not necessary. Smaller gaps to fill in.
Another video suggested nonsanded grout for the small gaps.

I have the same question. Many tilers advise using kitchen and bath silicon instead of grout because they say grout will crack and silicon doesn't crack.
Also in corners where tiles meet with tiles silicon is recommend it.
      Any experts please clarify.

As I see it, there is no reference to this rubber block as being the sanding block that it is, and I just can't go with using a sanding block to spread tile grout. It's not designed for, and is the wrong tool for the job. Also I would never drag a dry sponge across the surface of the tile, because the sand will get caught in the sponge and scratch the tile. If your going to use a sponge and not a float, a damp sponge should be used at a 45 degree angle. And it should be rinsed often to get rid of the sand. When the grout fill looks right, stop messing with it and let it dry. Once dry, then use a dry towel to remove the haze, and any sand that is still on the surface will simply drop to the counter top and can be wiped away. Using a float to begin with, the right tool for the job, and all these sponge issues go away. A float is to big for the job? No thats why it's made in a rectangle. The narrow sides are perfect for smaller jobs.
