Just imagine taking this build to a Lan-party.
It'll be so much effort, but so worth it. 😂
@@DawidDoesTechStuff just take the drawer with you XD
Imagine having to evacuate
to everyone that doesn't know, it'd look like he only brought his desk but not the system!
you could use the other draws to pack all your peripherals for transport, all in one Transport with no need for a Tub 😁
"My computer doesnt fit on my desk"
Dawid: "ever try putting it IN your desk?"
Me:🤯🤯🤯
😂
Hopefully your not trying to fit the case lol.
I would just hot glue my pc to the bottom of my desk
i guess it's pretty off topic but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Rey Benedict Flixportal :)
Everyone: ugh not enough space on my desk. guess I'll buy a bigger table

😂
You should do that for a test bench.
That's a great idea. 👍
@@DawidDoesTechStuff make it from an actual bench
You could add ventilation holes on the bottom of the drawer keeping the look intact, metal mesh + dust filter ( insect mesh, both cheap and easy to find). You could fix the dust problem, and maybe even oc the system. My god i wanna do it myself, i'm such a suker for DIY PC stuff..
Edit: insect mesh on top of the metal mesh to prevent shorts
That is a great idea. I will look into that. Go for it. I am sure you will have fun with it. 👍
@@DawidDoesTechStuff I am just here 2 years later to admire that mustache 😆 and to know if the drawer has been upgraded lol
The fact that you're being sent computer parts is just amazing man!

It is really exciting. It is so weird actually talking to the companies. 😁
Thanks for the nice comment.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff it's a big sign you are making worthwhile content when the manufacturers want you to show off their tech 😁 congratulations
Instead of buying a power button you can configure the bios to turn the system on when it's getting power and control this via your power strip. Would recommend one with a footswitch.
Thats a really good idea. Thank you.
This video helped me realize I have a problem with spending money on computers.
Dawid's streaming rig is powered by a 2700x and a RTX2060.
I am in college and have a 3700x based rig with an RTX2080 all custom water cooled. And my personal server is a Strix B450 board with a R5 1600 and a GTX 1060.

Omg i was thinking about a media/home theatre PC like 20 minutes ago.

A few suggestions. I’ve been doing IT work full-time for the past 40 years. For about 30 of those years, I have been a woodworker, after a prefab computer desk fell apart when I set my tower on it. Back then, that 286 computer cost about $4000. So here goes. First, particleboard is inherently weak compared to plywood or solid wood. So instead of cutting back the critical support offered by the back panel of drawer, you could possibly raise the motherboard by inserting A three-quarter inch thick spacer on the bottom of the drawer. That would help with the clearance of the USB ports. Instead of another piece of particleboard, you could replace the back with something like a cheap pine board or even oak. Both of these would help stiffen the back panel, and help pull the drawer together. One nice thing about prefab furniture, is that the particleboard is really cheap and easy to cut. If you need more clearance, you could also cut into the bottom of the drawer above. That way you could fit the taller graphics card. To help with stability, you could also replace the drawer bottoms with plywood, which is stiffer and more structurally sound. The thing I like best about working with Wood, is that besides metal fasteners, water soluble wood glue is also practical option, and it’s just as structurally sound. Thank you for the terrific idea, it looks like no furniture around my house will be safe from these Frankenstein modifications, as I look to build more electronics into wooden enclosures?
I was thinking many same things. Least take a piece of scrap and raise the USB.
Dude, your channel is so underated. You really are awesome and deserve so much more love.

Thank you for the nice comment. 😃
Finally some quality content on this channel, can't believe I have to dig so far back to get it
"Dawid does carpentry stuff" new channel I call it!
Hi, love ur content. Just one concern... Idk but couldn’t high current stuff (the power supply) enclosed in fiberboard be a fire hazard? Thanks for the great video, just looking out for you.
Yeah I get where you are coming from. I dont think the PC generates enouhh heat though. However I will be careful. 👍
@@DawidDoesTechStuff ignition temperature for particleboard is around 400 desgrees celcius, so I dont think you have anything to worry about
@@tombarber8929 Unless you run Intel.
I've been thinking of doing something similar with my current set-up.
It's full ATX with a Strix GPU and full form factor PSU plus AIO.
I was thinking of drilling holes in the side of the draws and unit as airways with filters on them plus adding a filter mesh on the inside of the draws to help with dust. I would love to see you try it with a full size tower build then I can learn 😜
Sombody get this man some power tools!! LOL! Love the Idea of Ikea!! Great vid!!!
Haha!! Yeah, I need atleast a Dremel. 😁
I cringed when I saw him trying to file 2 inches of wood lol. I would have used a flathead as a chisel at least
Loved the way you said , look 👀 it’s like I measured it ! Lol for the graphics card I loved it man it was literally lol
Hey Dawid could you give the link to the wallpaper your using for the dual monitor setup
I just googled 1440p wallpapers. :P Let me see if I can find it again and I will comment the link.

This is great! me and the wife want to build a double desk using alexs and I've always wanted to toy with a building a PC in a cabinet or rack mounting a gaming PC. This video has shown me a great way to tick all the boxes and still have some draws for storage in the Alex whilst hiding the entire PC, excellent build and video detailing it. Me and wife find you very entertaining, keep up the good work :)
Currently working on similar project!
Lucky I found yours 😋
Differences are I have ATX Mobo, 3 HDDs, 2 SSDs, no AIO but bug air CPU coolers,
and it's in the middle of a huge 3 Alex desk (in the middle Alex)
The ATX part is the most frustrating - I can only put the mobo with the IO to the sides..
I'm currently trying to figure out replacing the front of the drawer with other wood
Then I'll add fans on the sides
Dawid struggling to do woodwork with a boxknife is a funny image. Guess there's no Dawid Does Carpenty channel in the future. 😂
How did you mount the standoffs in this thin wood? I'm really looking forward to building this if I find a secondhand Alex drawer!
Dawid - you are a total genius. I'm still on my i5 2500k in a Big Tower case, and I'm sick of it. -> So much power in such a small package. I'm definitely going ITX next time.
-> I love the video mate, because of the theme and creativity(!). Thanks - and have a nice holiday.👍
Thank you very much for the nice comment. 😁 Have a great holiday.
yo this vid was great it was exactly what u need to see i had problems with cooling not any more thanks to the vid
Love the enthusiam about it. I love projects too
Nicely done mate! Both the build as the video
I'd definitely move it to the top drawer so that the other drawers don't hit it when you open it too fast
Glad to hear you mentioned dust near the end. While I love the aesthetics of that, a case with some quality air/dust filters is pretty much the main reason I would use an enclosure. Damn dust is evil. Especially if you have pets!
Was a fun video to watch though, looked fun to build.
Love you man
😃
You should re-do this with some of the better tools you have. I would basically custom-build a drawer for this and build an IO plate into the front. You could modify the existing stock drawer front panel to make it look semi-stock
I have that draw and was thinking the same thing! Love it! 👍
You should move the PC to be the top drawer because if you put items in one of the other drawers, it will sag a tiny bit and will get caught on the GPU.
omg watching dawid file the wood instead of using a saw is giving me eye gangrene lol
Great video. Damn good idea.
I have a 10 plastic drawer from Walmart, time to break out the tools and go to work. Great video fam!
Hello DVZN,
That sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the comment, I like your channel. 👍
Whoa I was looking at ordering the Alex drawers for some desks I was going to redo my office with
Now you have nore of a reason to get some. 😁
It's a great idea, I would fire proof the bottom of the drawer as it makes for good tinder wood. Put a plate of steel, then drill holes through bottom for mobo mounts.
Definitely do it. Great video and idea.
So this was the tweet huh, nice.
Jip. 😁
Swapping out that MDF drawer bottom for some plywood would definitely help with the sagging issue should you ever decide to remove the back portion of the drawer. Add in some thin steel or aluminum and you'd probably be set for the lifetime of the drawer unit. Not a bad way to maximize space, I need to do more thinking like this.
Hey Dawid, you ever do a follow up video on this for the possible dust issue in this? Did it get real dusty? Given the fact it’s covered, and decent air flow(compared to some towers), it wouldn’t be that bad… Great video. Would’ve never thunk it
Lets face it Dawid, that Ikea draw unit/computer combo has more air-flow than most modern cases do! ;) Great job and highly entertaining as always!
How loud is it? Im wondering because ive noticed having a computer in my desk makes it louder so was thinking of doing this so its more out the way.
I have the ALEX, too, and my PC sits right on of it. Waiting on that dust update; this seems like a really cool idea
Super interested in seeing how this works in a couple months, please do make another video about this project in a while
I wonder if you could swap the bottom and the back of the drawer with a metal mesh of some sort or cut it out of bigger metal ventilation grill. OR! This just cam to my mind. Swap the back of the drawer for a custom metal fram. This way you get better airflow and free access to all the i/o. Excess open parts could be covered with a magnetic mesh of some sort. Also custom of course, but this seems to be easier to find
If I was you I tried to get some type of dust cover and try to put it over the handle on the drawers but make it so you can't really see it
Yeah I thought about doing that. I am just worried about how it will effect the little airflow the case has. I will look into it though. 👍
Love the idea.also would love to see fan holes in front of drawer to move air front/back
I haven’t slept so imma watch this RQ can’t wait for the stream today. CSGO? halo Reach? What’s on the agenda
Sleep is so epic though. 😁 I kinda feel like PUBG today. I will start with tgag and then we can take it from there. 👍
i also would put some mesh / screens in the back in case of pests or even a curious cat / dog from getting in
That is a pretty good idea. Maybe I should get something 3d printed. 😛
Really cool project! + everibody can try it at home as every person in this planet has some kind of ikea forniture😂
Haha!! To be fair, the first time I lived in a country with an Ikea in it, I was 24.
You can use any drawer though. 😂
@@DawidDoesTechStuff lol! Here in europe there are so many ikea stores, idk about the U.S.A.
After the fire, "... the source of the flames was ultimately determined to be hot computer equipment running inside a very flammable IKEA pressed wood Alex drawer." Fire marshal, "Who in their right mind.... "
such impressive, much wow.😊
“Hold on. Let me put it in performance mode” *Opens drawer*
Please make a plexi/acrylic front to the drawer and attach it!! If you can measure it there are services online that will CNC it out of your choice of thickness of acrylic.
Your enthusiasm made me chuckle, good job buddy, next time get yourself something to cut wood 😂
What I would do is move the PSU's exhaust closer to the opening of the front of the drawer as close as you can get it to the LEDs leaving room for a noctua fan right in front of PSU to have it blow air out of the handle of the drawer, to compensate and reduce the Heat going to towards the GPU.
Thanks, might try thid
Hah, even with rgb! Damn, this pc-case is one of most impressive pc-case i ever seen on youtube.
Now you'll be extra paranoid everytime there's a drink on that table.
Subscribed for the dust follow up 😂
Nicely done. Loved the video👍
So a tip actually. I've found on amazon some computer style fans that run off of a USB type A plus, and come with hardwere to cut a hole in something to mount them in said hole, with a grate to cover the fan so you don't stick a finger in it. I think the double one would be perfect to cut a hole and mount in the front of the draw kind like you mentioned you'd have done the back, so you could keep it looking sleek, but have good air flow. while the fans themselves aren't too useful in this instance, it's the hardwere to mount them you want.
Awesome work big guy :-) I am very impressed that you managed to do it with no swearing, which is usually a prerequisite for men creating.......well anything. Love your content and the direction you are taking your channel.
Watching Dawid go at that particle board with a "craft knife and a file (7:55)" hurt my soul. Yes a Dremmel would work, but so would a $2 hacksaw.
I would have recommended using a thermaltake mozart TX. it fits perfectly under a IKEA desk {if you remove the legs of the case}.
its also a perfect Gaming case since you can add a ITX capture/NAS PC in it, together with a ATX motherboard,
so many different "she said" moments lol
For the power button you could get one of those LED-backlit arcade style buttons and use it as a power LED indicator as well... you could get a few female-female wires for hobby electronics and solder in some extra wire to connect to the header.
Also, custom water cooling when? ;)
Add mount for the GPU, something like long M3 standoff and maybe a piece of acrylic to the front of the cabinet to scatter the RGB light around smoother.
Nice ideas but the problem is you have to put this in limited space for airflow. Also do you use stand off screw for motherboard or just screw directly on plywood? Hot air will rise so bottom draw is good. Maybe some vents will be good.
You the man!
How did you stick the fans and PSU down? May have missed it in the video
This might actually be something i do in the future. But for the dust management, i would probably get one of those magnetic mesh screens. and maybe a RGB fan on the front of the drawer xD
Great, fun, video! I should do something like this for my Dell Precision T7500. Then again, its case is so sturdy and tall I could probably use it to hold up one side of the desk top.
Literally seen half of my flat in this video 😂😂😂
Wow, luckily I have all the components needed to do a similar build! I'm just missing a PSU, a CPU, a GPU, a Mobo and RAM! Nearly there!
Edit: and a monitor!
I'm about to do the same build, but a bit beefier on parts. Is there anything you would have changed or suggestion as a v2.0?
Instead of exhaust, would a rear intake with filter fix the dust problem?
great video, cool pc, those panels on your wall 2 look crooked, drove me insane
Pretty cool idea overall.
You don't need a Power Button, just config BootUp Power Management in the Bios to Remember its last State or to start the PC after Power is switched on from the Wall. So you can use an normal outside Power-Switch, perhaps one on a Power-Strip to turn your PC on. This is also important for Servers and how they behave after a Blackout for example.
or just set up the bios to wake on mouse button, or keyboard. I think some motherboards allow this even when off?
the problem you had with the rear IO, you were using a metal file on wood, if you had a wood file you would have had an easier job XD
but good proof of concept and you can always open the draw for more airflow
Serveur rack industry : *spends money and uses engineers to build pc racks*
Dawid : let's build it inside an Ikea Alex
i never throw away that tough packing foam especially if its black, cut into shape makes for great sound dampers and anti vibrate washers/padding etc, i still use 2x1tb hdds and theyre enclosed in packing foam and are 100% silent now ( temps are fine theyre only old mass storage drives )
Might want to look taking a MERV 11 1 inch thick MERV 11 air filter that you can purchase on-line or at a local hardware store.
Cutting it down and drop it either in front of the power supply, or right behind the fans (up against). Just an idea.
I am going to think about possible use of this idea if I do another build.
i honestly prefer this to LTT desk pc, this makes so much more sense
if i did this i would look into a second hand store for a old solid pine bedside cabinet or something since itll have a solid drawer base and theyre more sturdy and cheaper than ikea particle board, id use a PCIE cable to lay the GPU flat too
Awesome build, I have the same Ikea drawer but instead of building my pc inside the drawer, I just put my itx pc in the drawer with my ps4 and cut the back out.
i was expecting for you to make something that looks cool or neat. knowing your channel. looks like it was just thrown in there lol.
Kinda cool, but building in a ITX case might be more practical. Especially as you're already using an ITX motherboard and an low profile cooler. Then you could actually travel with it.
I'd consider putting some kind of mesh on the back of the drawer to help with dust.
Add a smaller fan right next to gpu at the back to outflow And use tape on the wood at ear IO to stop wood spliters getting into ports and shorting the board. I happaned to me.
There's no way I can say this without sounding like an arse, but try using a saw for cutting wood. Even a cheap little hack saw would have made your life a lot easier than trying to use a file
i have the same drawer... use micro atx.atx power supply, put the power supply on standoffs and put the psu right against the back part of the drawer with the power connector facing out
