    I REALLY liked the Sony a7r2, but a few things forced me to return it (If you remember that video). Then the A6300/a6500 came along with many of the same issues but were just as good in many ways for video and at less than half the price making the a7r2 not worth it for me. Now the a7R3 is offering a ton of usability improvements and video quality as well so I had to order one for video.

      Max I have just tested the new A7RIII today! We compared it against the GH5 and OM-D 1 II, the Olympus crushed the stabilisation on the A7RIII with the new Olympus dual IBIS lens I think the GH5 was about the same with the Leica 12-60 lens and the Sony with the 24-105, although it think the GH5 was a bit better because of dual IBIS 2.

      $3,198.00 for the body only Is too expensive Max. It costs more then Black Magic Production Camera which have an ultimate look for film with using both raw and pro-res format on 4k and have a global shutter. Also, I heard that it was used in the first "The Avengers" film.
      Maybe if the Sony was $1000 less, coming with a decent lens, and had a global shutter it would consider a good offer. But as it is, not reason to bother....

I'll either be trading in both of my A7S2's for 2 of the A7S3's or 1 each of the A7R3 & A7S3. Love that autofocus, dynamic range, and sampling from the A7R3!!

    Pretty interested in this for photo video as well. Been waiting for the right cameras to come from sony and i'm thinking an a7r3 and a7s3 could be the best dual camera setup for photo video. Jumped into fuji initially coming from canon and started getting back into video and picked up a gh5 and now loving it, but want something more exciting for photo and i'm thinking the r3 is that.

I'm def interested in the A7RIII for video as well. I use 10bit ALL THE TIME on my GH5. As well as C4K and I use the 400 ALL-I as it really does allow SOOOOO much more room in post (especially when shooting VLOG which I shoot all the time)... but can't pull the trigger till I see what the A7SIII has to offer whenever it drops...

    Hey Max. Love your videos! I have a question about the A7R2 and A7R3 I was hoping you could answer. I'd like to shoot stills in studio in live view mode (camera higher than my head with screen flipped down) so I don't need a ladder) with EYE AF, while also transmitting that signal remotely to an external monitor, or via wifi router such as a Cam Ranger to be monitored by an art director or clients. Do you know if this camera can do this? Can other Sony cameras you have do this? This is one thing that I've missed going from Canon 5D3 (had it, but screen doesn't flip), to Nikon D750 (didn't have it - can't show a live view image and transmit live view at same time). Also, does eye-AF also work while doing this? If Sony has this featured, I'm interested for sure!

  • @trolledyou7032
    @trolledyou7032 Před 6 lety

    Five things lacking to be a dream camera:
    1. Fully articulated screen (that is without saying, the MOST REQUESTED feature by any Sony user)
    2. Touchscreen menu system (best example Samsung NX500 or NX1. Gosh it was brilliant. Just like using a smartphone, so damn easy. Cannot understand why most of cameras don't have a proper touch screen menus in 21th century..)
    3. Raw sizes (new in Nikon D850, why wasn't that implemented till now?)
    4. Built in flash (I've been thinking, not a big deal, but when I got back to my old Nikon D5200 I just realized how much I missed it with Sony a7R)
    5. Built in timelapse video (has been for ages in Canon cameras)

  • @TaraTanaka
    @TaraTanaka Před 6 lety

    I just watched your GH5s video, and when you said that 4K in good light would not be as sharp as the GH5, that was all I needed to hear - my GH5 is best for what I do - great review! I tried the a7R II briefly compared to the GH4, and hated the soft LCD (I shoot with a loupe on the LCD and 100% manual focus), and sold it. I’ve been using the GH5 for a year and have been thinking about renting the a7R III - and I was really happy to hear your positive comments on the new LCD, but after watching this video I wonder if the a7S III might be a better option. I’m shooting wildlife video and stills, 99% in really good light. I use Nikon lenses so AF is completely unimportant. Based on what you think the a7S III might offer, could you offer any thoughts on the S III vs. the R III for the way I use it? 4K 60fps is really important to me. Thanks very much!

    I had assumed all the LCD screens on the ILCE cameras had been white magic ones and that's what is implemented when hitting the sunny mode. it just turns on the white pixels to help viewing outdoors. i thought the a9 not dimming in 4k was due to it's larger more cooled body and the faster processing from the integrated RAM. happy to be proven wrong.

    Max, an honest Question. Do you think it's actually an advanced breakthrough product? The sensor is the same, same body type, the only Thing new is a One stop increase in the dynamic range which would hardly be noticed by people, no increase in Mega Pixels, almost same video capabilities. All they did was add a few more shots per seconds and a few minor adjustments which would be expected in this time frame.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  Před 6 lety +3

      This is basically an evolution of the a7R2 which so many photographers love. They took the best parts (really detailed sensor with fantastic dynamic range) and imrpoved that, but also updated or replaced the parts that most a7r2 photographers complained about. Bad battery life, single card slot, joystick, buffer capacity and clearing speed. A huge complaint was once you take a few shots you couldn't go into the settings to change anything nor look at your photos until they all saved. This is fixed now and thats a big deal if you need to shoot fast and check focus. Ontop of that the LCD is more detailed and should be brighter, EVF has a huge improvement in every way, and no viewfinder blackout when continously shooting. The autofocus was good enough but did struggle with speed and accuracy in lowlight conditions as well as only decent performance with contious tracking (a6300 was superior). Its now using the same system as the a9 which is phenominal, even beating the previous champ the Nikon D5. Photo and Video autofocus will be at the top or even the best in the endustry if it matches the a9. With all this said, if somone is a working pro and their main camera is the a7r3 it would shocking if they don't think its work paying an extra $800-$1200 to upgrade to the R3 model.

    Max I don't get it. The a7R mk.III is a good camera with good video capabilities but when the a7s mk.III will come out will that not make the a7r mk. III look less apealing. I have a a6500 and maybe I will buy a7R mkIII in a year or maybe two years because I like photography But I also like videography. I cant seem to hear a good specific reason except that a few cinematographers like the a7rII more thatn a7sII.Could you explain me

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  Před 6 lety

      I'm getting it because I don't want to wait for the a7r3 and the resale value is so good that even if I swap to an S3 later it should only cost me $200-$300 for "renting it" for at least 3 months, but possibly 6-9 months. I also don't know if the s3 will have a 24MP sensor. The benefit of the R3 is you can shoot great 4k in full frame and then go into the crop if you want to use cheaper aps-c lenses (which I have a ton of, including Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 F1.8 lenses) or use Full frame and get more reach. I love my a6300/a6500 but I want to get shallower dept of field when shooting full body or when using wide lenses which is difficult to do with an APS-C sensor.

    • @TheInfinite66
      @TheInfinite66 Před 6 lety

      Wow thatnk you. So I could still use my lensen for my a6500 on crop mode on a7rIII i'm already sold. I like it that it's 42 mp the a7sIII is a bit too low for my liking anyway so if the a7sIII is below 24 I'll definitely go with the a7RIII for video as well. Internal 4k with 42mp is sick!!!!!
      Thank you so much Max :)

    One thing I've learned not to do is buy a Sony camera early based on specs. There are camera companies that make sure that when they introduce a new feature, it works reliably and the way that people want to use it. Then there are companies that love to show off something amazing and knida hide the fact that it isn't practical for real world use.

    There are several killers for me. No 10 bit, no 60fps in 4k and the price... $4400 + for the body and kit lens. Going to be the GH5 for me then. I will just have to use manual focus for the video.

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  Před 6 lety +7

      I've had the GH5 since launch and I rarely shoot 10bit or 4K 60. Do I want the option? Yes, and I'll likely pick up an a7s3 when the comes out. We need 3-4 cameras for wedding films so having an a7R3, a7S3, and a6500 (or a7000 if that launches) will be a sweet set.

    • @thegeneral123
      @thegeneral123 Před 6 lety +7

      I had to sell a lot of camera equipment so I am currently only running a Panasonic GX80 with an engineers hack to give me the Cinelike V and D profiles as well as to open up 30p in 4k. The 60fps I'd certainly use for shots where there is a lot of quick panning and for slowing down shots for effects. Generally though, I'd be running 10bit 24p/30p as my monitor is 4k, 10bit. There is of course a bonus that the GH5 body will be compatible with my lenses used on the GX80. A 25mm prime, the 12-32 kit lens and my 45-175 lens.
      I mostly shoot buildings, scenery and landscapes in video and photos so really the autofocus on the GH5 is probably not going to be much of a concern. I'm coping just fine with the GX80 by half pressing the shutter button to lock the focus and then shooting.
      It annoys me that the Canon cameras are hobbled in many regards technology wise on the mid range. I want full frame 4k 10 bit with 2 pixel autofocus but I don't want to pay 10 grand for that. Panasonic seems to be the only company that really "gets it". Just a shame their autofocus in video is a let down and they don't use a larger sensor option.

    I can see a huge advantage of the screen not dimming but I am not sure how optical quality would compare with the a6500 in the different video modes. As I understand it both would crop to an aspect ratio of 16:9 in 120p. Personally I chose the aps-c mode for video as it is both lighter, cheaper and more optimal for video (a6500 has downscaling from 6k). And I am still using the original a7r for stills. I was waiting to perhaps update it and though the a7r3 has a lot of increments - am still not sure how much the optical quality for video is better than a6500 - apart from the usual sensor size differences of properties.

      @RobCollins2015 Před 6 lety

      I went to Cameralabs to take a look at the footage because it hasnt been my experience with the A7r3. The first clip is with the 85GM (which does not have ois). This clip is jerky - ibis alone seems to want to 'freeze' each frame (good for stills) and then jumps to a new one. With the next clip the video is very smooth with the 24-105 which has ois it only uses 3 axis for ibis and I am getting the same very good results as long as I use an ois lens. Autofocus for video is also much improved over the A7r2.

    For being the no.1 sensor manufacturer in this game, I found it interesting that they've kept the sensor the same (though, not a new move by them). Otherwise... for the same launchprice as the previous iteration, you're getting quite the upgrades on there, trickled down from the A9. Now my wish would be for them to finally bring the A6x00-series up to snuff. Just give it a body makeover, make it more like a Samsung NX1, Fujifilm X-T2, Olympus E-M1 Mark II or Panasonic GH5. With all that good stuff you find on those last 2. Like a good sizeable grippy body, with proper room for heat dissipation, with a vari-angle touchscreen with full implementation and no screen dimming. Dual cardslots. Nice battery life. Bunch of buttons and dials and high level of customizing them. Audio interface including dedicated headphone port. And all that good stuff. Concerning recording performance... well-controlled rolling shutter, more pleasant color, 10-bit, Hybrid LOG Gamma, etc. And... they need to revive the APS-C compact lens line-up that has been kept dead for years and years now. Because what good is a crop sensor if regarded as a fullframe entry level for poor sobs that can't afford the A7 line-up quite yet.

      Now that's trolling. Not sure how my earlier comment was that. I did mention the A7RIII and features trickled down from the A9, where on a sensor pixel level nothing has changed, but a lot of ergonomics/usability has. So... if any of these people with Sony contacts, or Sony checking out comments can take a note... would be nice to see something actually APS-C with ergonomics/usability ups. Because I ain't buying one like it is... but the potential is there. There's nothing more I hate to see than wasted potential, so I speak up. If you're not onboard with it... hey, this is the comment section of a CZcams video... I'm okay with not being on the same page as everyone else. Have a gd one.

      Using a sensor like the A9 would have made it take a hit on its low light ability compared to the A7Rii. A9 is 24MP and only slightly better in low light than the A7Rii. People are going to try to shoot indoor sports with this camera at ISO 3200 and 6400. Low light quality is something that couldnt go backwards. High MP is wonderful when noise reducing and retaining quality. I prefer my 5DSR at ISO 6400 over my 1Dx mk2 bc of the detail that is retained at a 25% or 50% noise reduction and the ability to crop. This should be the same with the A7Riii over the A9.
