  • MakerWorld is a new 3D model repository from Bambu Lab, but it's not just a file sharing site. With MakerWorld, you can browse for models and send them directly to your 3D printer, right from your phone, no slicing required!
In this video I discuss the impacts of MakerWorld on the 3D printing industry and give a demonstration of how it works.

iirc the creality cloud thing also supports direct send to printer.
I do sort of like the idea of pay per print, as that might get places like GW to start allowing more people to print stuff for WH4K, but I doubt they would do that.

While one click printing might be very fun for kids just printing fun little things, any other maker trying to get into 3d printing is much better off learning how to slice (and create) his own models imo.

You will definitely need to learn eventually but this makes it accessible to get started and for some people, this will be enough. Even for experienced users there is benefit to not having to slice yourself if further refinement is not necessary. For example, in the case of this silly little llama. I don’t care to slice it myself if someone has done it for me with reasonable settings. In other cases, I would definitely prefer to slice myself, but that’s mainly applicable for models I have designed myself.

I am printing for years now. Why should I not use such a service with pre sliced prints?
The presets and the integrated LiDAR on my X1C makes it pretty easy to print anything first try without fiddling with the settings or dialing in a new filament.

this makerworld is absurdally mess for me at this moment. Same files on 3-4 sites, but here have 90 same profiles ( made by random guys [or bots] on random settings)... Only wasting time now. Need to be under moderation - you can send profile only with print picture or something.

Interesting. I haven't played with it much since I first looked at it. That definitely sounds like it could be an issue.

I’m not familiar with that one. Does it allow you to print models directly without slicing?

As someone from a third world country, convert 3D Printing into spotify will just present 3D printing as something that only "fresas" (rich people) only can do....
But as someone who is also a teacher on a third world country, i can do things like give full 100 to the person that can hack a bambu lab, ghost printing party
