He Stole Food From My Garden!

- Food is being stolen from our garden. I'm going to build an invisible hoop house for our raised garden bed to stop the culprit. Head to getsunday.com/haxman to check out Sunday and get 20% off Smart Lawn Plans! #sundayparter #sunday #lawncare I thought this might not work out but in the end, I'm happy with how this hoop house blends in. Hopefully, the birds will stop eating our strawberries now. It should stop deer as well but so far our motion sprinklers have kept them away. I'm using Sunday to help make my lawn greener and lusher. I've never been able to make it look as healthy as I want so I'm looking forward to Sunday fixing that. Thanks for watching #haxmaniacs!

I donât care if I ever learn anything with these videos (which I usually do.) I immediately jump to Adamâs videos because the sheer entertainment value is priceless! Rock on, brother!
Who's Adam? Don't you mean He Who Shall Not Not Be Haxman?
I've heard you can find some rocks that are similar in shape and paint them to look like strawberries to deter birds. I guess it attracts them, they realize it's hard, then they think every strawberry is rock hard., and eventually they'll stop.
I heard the same about tomatoes. A lady put red ornaments on her tomato plants before any tomatoes were ripe and the birds are trained that the tomatoes are unbeatable.
@@jamesoliver5058 both great suggestions! is there an equivalent method for keeping deer away from peppers, cucumbers, peas, etc ?....every year they decimate my plants by devouring all the blossoms and stripping my plants bare.
@@mrs_frank feed them corn on the other side of your property
@@thomastonnessen8056 corn is potentially deadly to deer.
I was going to make the same suggestions.
Dollar store hula hoops, shiny cover removed to expose the join. Pull that apart, trash the little rattling beads, jab those open tubes onto stakes or rebar. Instant support for bird or bug nets. Zip ties or any wire will hold it on.
My dad was the family âOver-Engineering-Specialistâ. I miss him and his contraptions. Once I told him I needed a portable rolling garment rack to display some of my clothing designs. He welded me up a 150 pound rack with all-terrain wheels. đČ Could have taken that thing off-roading, just needed a seat and a motor.
đ
LOL! Thatâs awesome!
You probably already know this but, they are probably just going at the strawberry's for there water. Not sure if that is true but also as you most likely already know, You could add a bird bath for them to drink.
Haxsters should be those who actually try or do the projects and Hax Maniacs should be those who are fans but don't actually do projects but just love the channel!
"No matter how much I clean up, three days later it looks the same." Sounds like house cleaning. LOL.
The easiest hoops we've used so far are 4' rebar every few feet with 10' PVC. I'm not a mathematician đ€Ș can't remember the size rebar or pvc... we use plastic in the winter and you can use netting for the birds. Love watching and laughing with Kim!
Thank you đ
I was honestly expecting this to be a thief of the human variety. I guess garden security has been on my mind with the impending food shortages coming down the line.
No. you just wanted a new tool. Might not need it for 20 years but when that day comes all will look on you with awe as you solve the problem with the tool you had the foresight to buy just for this day, 20 years ago. Blessed be the Tool
đ„ I was going to say something about painting rocks red. Looks like itâs well covered in the comments. My uncle did that, it worked great. However itâs more fun to buy new tools than paint. đ
*Keep on tractoring!*
đ
We had deer, rabbits and many other animals eating our veggies and what helped was a urine fence. Sounds ridiculous but if you pee around it or use a bottle and it keeps all critters out.
I've heard that works. I might do a video showing that. On second thought maybe no video. đ
@@HAXMAN LoL!

Robertson was a Canadian inventor. The #2 square head was invented in 1906. It was being introduced to America, just as WW2 broke out and all the companies stayed with star drivers to keep production from being delayed after switching all their screws.
Even without a magnetic screw driver, you can tilt the screw facing completely down, and it will still stayed attached to the driver.
In Canada, this is the only screw type head sold, we do however still require all head type screw drivers, so much of our stuff is imported using star head.
You're literally the Bobby Duke of gardening and DIY, and I'm so here for that
i'm gonna share this wonderful idea with my husband. just FYI, armadillos have been known to carry leprosy.
Here is a tip for putting in lag eyelets. Grab a socket wrench with a deep socket. Stick the handle in the eyelet and hold the socket. Spin like the crank on a trailer jack. Really easy, really fast.
Love your laid back building style. Free handing that router was Jedi Master. Thanks for posting.
đ Thank you
Just a suggestion, if you order Deer No No, it will keep the deer away from your property. Excellent , all natural deer repellent. Great stuff
My wife and I are officially Haxsters! Love you guys!
Starting @10:10 was a really good prank. I've heard and read that plants thrive to certain music, however, that scream.......I mean singing was genuinely pure and there's no way to help myself but LMAO, and she may have just killed everything within a 10 foot radius. LoL!
Love the planter box by the way. You're givin me ideas... And I love ideas... But for me they take some time to manifest... đ
The motion sprinklers are awesome! I set one up at my buddies house facing his door so when he came out to get his paper it got him. I did it on a Friday night knowing he didn't have to work so I'm not a total A. He did keep it and has been using it for 2 years to save his garden.
I use my cut hair and sprinkle it around. It's been working great
đ€Ł Thatâs awesome
Yes my daughter just moved . and has a big fenced in yard turned garden . in ground but needs boxes found some ideas . sending ideas to her . for boxes fencing to protect. And raise off the ground. She lives in South Dakota. đđđ
The strawberries are safe! The Robertson Drive - a legendary Canadian invention and also a personal GP favorite - hands down. My vote Hax - Haxsters ( less syllables....:)). Have a great weekend.
No doubt lots of good things come out of Canada. đ Thanks Gord!

Just fun to watch! This channel is always a joy!! đ„°â€ïžđ always recommend! 11/10. Please give me a strawberry!
As a Canadian, hearing you say the Robertson is the best fills me with pride XD
I've found that Canadians are immensely proud of the Robertson drive. đ I get a boost in Canadian subs every time I mention it. đ
This man loves any excuse to use his tools!!â€ïž
A long thin piece of lath could be placed over the netting and brad nailed on. I think that would work. Staples wouldâve worked too. I think this turned out great and should keep the pesky little food robbers out.
The video is great, everything in it.. But the armadillo made it the best! So awesome to see it so close to you, first time I've seen a "private" video show one also, so awesome! â€
Dude! Your Awesome!! Greetings from North Central GA. You need to have a TV Prog "Tool Time with HaxMan and his Maniacs". Your an inspiration to many that have little know-how but live at the Home Depot tool dept....
I like how you mention just the parts of what to worry about and not a bunch of wild conspiracy theories and you're very entertaining and know what you're talking about. Great job!
If you want an awesome shop you should look at what Aspiring Craftsman is doing with his shop. I would love to see a collaboration between you two. You both have very inventive minds.
Bet those birds will be cussing you out now! đđ
Thanks. Iâll check it out.
@10:15 OMG that was golden!!! you are so mean hahaha. I got one of those also on a tripod to keep squirrels, racoons, rats, possums, rabbits, birds from eating my vegetables (like a zoo at my place)
đ Yeah. They work great.
I don't know if you knew this, but you can just throw that netting one top of the strawberries. It doesn't need a frame for birds. Final product looks good though =]
Totally agree with you on the Robertson square drive screws/bts
The swamp video showed TRUE ACTING SKILL. Great family involvement with the right attitude toward life-get r done! Love you all and thank you very much to all of you.!! Informative and entertaining. More power to ya!
Thank you so much!
I use galvanized conduit and composite deck boards for my raised beds. The wood stuff only lasts a few years. I have about 12 years on all my raised beds and they look the same as when i first put them in.
Iâve seen other videos in the past where gardeners paint rocks of similar shapes and sizes red and put them in the strawberry garden. The birds peck them and leave and donât come back. đ€·đ»ââïžđ€·đ»ââïž
Hi. I'm really glad you made it trough the whole episode, with that big ol boo --boo
Dramic. Lol great video.thanks
I've never seen someone so excited to get a splinter đđ
I loved what you came up with to protect the berries. Awsome.
As a first time watcher đ of your DIY videos; your very good at what your doing, a total natural. Thank you & your family for making this available. Your daughter is learning so much from you! Your funny too. So glad your not uptight & so serious cause that would be too painful to watch. đđđ
I love armadillos. They're very cool animals. They're blind in the daytime. If you touch their back they will grunt and nudge your hand with their back. Supposedly they carry leprosy, but the chance of getting it is very low. Also, fun fact. In the U.S. leprosy is curable.
đđ love watching next video maybe how to organize your work space âŁâŁ
Keep commenting and help this fella keep making videos.. I do rather enjoy them all..
hahahahaha Godfather...absolutely brilliant! Thank you!

Hey Haxman, darn it, I only took a couple of strawberries and had to wade through your swamp back there to get them. Now your gonna complain? Geesh man....LOL love your post and so much wish I knew you in RL. You rock dude!!
I don't think this deer netting will stop you then.
I had a hoop cover with 1/4" holes on my strawberrie raised bed last year. At first I had a mole in my raised bed, then I figured out I had a chipmunk in the raised bed. He would take a small bite out of a strawberrie. To test it. If it wasn't ripe he would try another one. He ruined just about all of my strawberries. I was going to remove all of the dirt and plants to Install hardware cloth but ended up having my left knee replaced. So I guess will see what happens this season.
I HATE those little buggers! We have them, too, and Iâve always said the least they can do is finish the berry- we canât eat it after that! I had one really big, choice one a few years ago, kept watching it, waiting for the day itâd be perfectly ripe. Went out that morning, (it was beautiful!) and went to pinch it off the stem, and the whole backside of it was gone! I could have cried!đđĄ

Because I am allergic, I have a bed of strawberries that are just for the birds and insects, and I let them go wild all over yard. Your bed is so tidy and clean!
Awesome idea. I think itâs perfect. I love that you had your daughter help out.
I love watching my garden grow a little each day, that is my favorite part of gardening.Thank you for sharing your garden now I can watch your garden grow too.!Your garden is so lovely! I love it so much I started filming garden videos too. I am in my 3rd year of gardening and still have so much to learn. I hope we can learn more from each other!
I don't know if anybody has said this yet, cause I didn't read all the comments but you should try and get rid of the armadillos! They are carriers of leprosy not always but sometimes and with kids around why take the risk.
Thatâs a good idea đ
WoW! Sleek and modern with low visibility, Nice row cover!. Poor birdies! Ha!
I LOVE Harbor Freight. My husband thinks I am crazy because I spend so much time there..
Just found your channel, and I'm definitely a Hackster already! Great channel sir!
Thank you for presenting your diverse ideas to the audience.đ Just to suggest for the door, what good would it do if you put a holder base.
Nice neat solution.
Good idea to keep the height as you never know what you'll be growing next..

Anyways not seen Bob Ross for a while...đ.
Good stuff đ
Iâve use half inch hardware cloth and had wonderful results
Cool idea, I like it. I've always had issues with Grackles attacking my tomatoes.
So i built something almost exactly like this 2 years ago. I found that after a while it became too heavy for me to lift over and over again by myself. I have back issues. So what i changed out after trying the wood first and then the pvc type. I ended up just using welding wire mesh spaced out with netting across top held down with simple bricks laid every few inches. And other way was pegged in either rebar or garden spike with hoses and over top went netting also held down with bricks spaced out. Easy to move a couple bricks reach in gor berries n go down line. No heavy lifting or letting in a bunch of bugs on one side as i work the other.
Some hula hoops and bird netting from the Dollar Tree would have worked just as well.
nice job adam keep those pesky critters out :)
when i use the splinter out i do it from the opposite side of where it went in it works pretty good
Nice job đ HaxMom and HaxDad!!!đđđđšđł
Thanks Mitch!
I love that cover!! Ingenious! Be careful with Armadillos, my folks had one get under their screened- in-porch. (foundation) But you know all this!
HAXNATION!, I'm all in. If you start serving Kool-Aid, that's gonna be an issue.
Awesome job. Just started growing veggies myself.
You got ticks get Ginny hens , they solve the tick problem and taste very good !
DEER: love the sprinkler idea. i guess mostly set it up at night? otherwise, how are you keeping from spraying yourselves as you go out to do stuff?
row cover cloth works too, provides a little shade, but keeps out bugs too.
Get your girls to paint little rocks shiny red then place them near and among your plants before the fruit comes .... birds will peck them and learn its not food...hence when fruit does ripen the birds will leave them alone!
My son and daughter in law had this problem. They hung CDs from string above and around the garden. No problems yet this year... I dont know how attractive some people would find them. But I thought they were kinda pretty twirling in the breeze.
hax.. the longer beard an hair is looking great... keep up the GREAT WORK.. really enjoy the channel...
one reason i like watching your videos often you make me feel so good about my own skills.

I usually chew on the splinter & sucking at the time, works better than trying to see it LOL
Great vid! Thank you sir!
I admire you for taking the time to make these video's. Very informative and helpful. I would like to add a suggestion to be helpful if you will. I have had similar problems with neighbors stealing my tomatoes, sweet corn and more from my garden so I installed a few motion sensors around the perimeter called "Driveway Alert" and they are relatively cheap. There are several brands out there but anything with a 4 star rating or above work fine. They have 2 settings, a warning beep that sounds like it is ready to sound an alarm off or the actual Siren mode which will set the thief off and running. Either setting of sound only lasts for about 20 seconds and I found it to be quite a deterrent for anyone trying to steal from me again. Yes, animals trigger it as well but my garden is not close to anyone's house and it only sounds for as I say 10 to 20 seconds which is enough to make them think that they better not stick around.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas. PS can always use more Maineac's. LOL
You call that a splinter? Sick Call Ranger!!!
Clever idea and nicely done. I would make some like that too if I had tools to make them with đ

i got the same problem....this is a good idea
Great idea!
I'd heard of one gardener who put out rocks, painted the right shade of red, and very close to the same size as the berries. They said that by putting out the rocks the birds got confused and gave up raiding the berries. I'd trust your hoop cover more, just be sure to use netting with large enough gaps to let the bees in to pollinate.
I've heard that too! Never tried it though.
I love your garage! Now I don't feel like such a slacker with my mess! It's good to know it's not just me. But, I'm still tripping over my mess. At least you have a path lol.

#2 Robertson. Woot woot us Canadians. Woot woot
Armadillos are basically blind. The way to trap them is just put a funnel of fence to the trap and they walk right in

I live in Tampa in the city which I absolutely do not want to continue living here however next spring I'll be moved to Alabama but that's another story. I grew tomatoes and they got up their big tomatoes and they got up high and they produced fruit and fruit was ready to be eating the next day I come out and squirrels those little blah blah blah I can't say it really don't they took a few bites and left them I was very upset so I built a squirrel proof cage and put all my tomato plants in
sliver looked like it was still in there.keep digen.
Hey love your videos, they are informative and funny. I wanted to know on your strawberries, which type of those that do not grow in a vine or spread like crazy? I grow some in the past and it took over the entire area. Just curious what type you are using. Thanks keep making great videos.
That armadillo must be related to the wild rabbits on our property theyâll come around to gardens and hop right over to us and wonât even spook. Our dog wonât chase them he prefers chasing the birds and squirrels.
I have a mule deer buck that leans on my fence to get to the strawberries đ, beat the birds be ready
How are you going to pick the strawberries without walking on them? Hopefullly these vines will get thicker and strawberries so plentiful you will leave some for the birds, they gotta eat too.
Robertson and Torx are my favorite. If you get yourself some good JIS screw drivers you won't have a problem with Phillips either.
