  • The deer population is out of control. We're installing black welded wire deer fencing to save the garden. I wanted to build a wood and cattle panel fence but wood is so expensive we went with welded wire and t posts instead. The sand gnats almost ate us alive.

I love that your whole family is out there helping you out. It's nice to see that. Kids, being kids and a couple helping each other.

Indeed. We started without hearing protection and then put them on. My ears were hurting already after about a third of the posts were in. Luckily we had protection for everyone. Thanks!

Raw chicken (and other bird) bones are fine, also if you pressure cook them, the bones just crumble and would be ok to feed dogs, too. It the regular cooked (baked, boiled, fried, etc) bones that will splinter and cause problems. Looks like you feed yours raw, which is awesome!

My wife used to pressure cook the chicken bones. I'm lazy, they get it raw.

When trying to leverage a piece of wood with the fence post, pound the post into the ground @45 Degree angle so the end goes in just past the point you want it to end up at (ie Vertical with wood in proper place.) Once you have it driven in at this angle at about 3", (depth depend on soil, wood size, etc.) you can push the wood board into place and the fence post should be nearly vertical at this point. If you are not a on the spot, you can at least pound the leverage post into place, regardless of the angle, to hold the wood board in place while you place a second post near the first.
TIP: if you can do so safely, keep the post pounder on the post from the time you set it at a 45 degree angle, until you pound it in vertical/near vertical; do not remove the post pounder while leveraging the wood board into place as it is difficult to hold the leverage post in place while lifting a post pounder onto the post.
    God bless.

Why are you cutting the height of the fence down? Some deer can jump 6 feet, 5 is easy. the fact that there is no support up top doesn't matter. They see the height. I could be wrong. I don't know what you're planning next. You have a wonderful family. It's great to see you all working together.

Just a quick suggestion for future projects in case you haven’t heard of these. We went with something called cow panels. Not as tall but I’m hoping the deer won’t figure that out :-) We got them at Tractor Supply.

Seeing the end of the video. If deer are still jumping it, bend the top of the fence above the posts out at a 45 degree angle and they will likely stop jumping it. Messes with their little deer brains.

They should consider some kind of population control for the deer ... for obvious reasons ... health being the major one.

We feed our dogs raw chicken. They can eat raw bones. They can’t eat cooked bones. Cooked bones splinter and can kill them. I’m not sure about pressure cooked.
