I found the explanation! I know why Levy pins bad comments. That's because this is chess, and in chess getting pinned is not good at all. If you guys think getting pinned is a good thing, sorry my friends but this is CHESS

“If you can’t win this it’s time for checkers”
That fucking killed me
Imagine the record for the most-watched chess match ever was from people with less than 1.2k ELO.
Kudos for promoting Chess PogChamps!
as a much higher rated player I will say that it is more interesting to watch lower level games because they are easier to analyze and understand (you look for more basic tactics and big mistakes rather than deep positional lines) and you don't know what they will play while with a 2700 you can pretty much just expect the best move in many positions
@@Lawrence_Zhou I really like watching games of my elo because it is easier to see what kind of mistakes you need to avoid or how to see common tactics.
High elo GM games are also interesting, but their ideas are pretty more complicated and many players cannot really understand many moves. The best thing that you can learn from masters is how to win a position with small advantages.
How many watched this? The world Championship Carlsen Vs vishy was 800000 viewers Just in norway and I dont Even know how many watched it in India. Stil love pogchamps!
xqc always has 65k ppl watching him no matter what he's playing
80%+ of chess players are below 1200 (as Chess com stats show) so it makes sense they like watching their peers more than watching top-level games where most of the moves don't make any sense to them.

I really love the way Gotham, a 2200(ish) rated IM, speaks about the talent between two 1000 rated players. No sarcasm, no arrogance. You're a showman Mr Levy, and a gift to the world of chess. How many others at your level would be as humble as you I wonder.
2400 ish I think, I agree with the sentiment
I think actually e's smthn like 2700s? But yeah.
I have a similarly high rating and I was actually impressed. There were some terrible blunders, but their positional understanding definitely feels like 1600+.

Besides the popularity it brings, these streamers are so relatable in terms of their chess to most people. Watching GMs play is cool, but if you don't understand half of the strategy or tactics in these games, it's neither good entertainment nor very instructive (unless explained by Levy in recaps - then it's the best of both). Good times for chess!

I love watching 1100ish games, the drama, the suspense, the blunders, the relatability haha. Epic commentary to Levy, really adds to the whole experience.
It makes me physically uncomfortable to watch the blunders in these games, and it only makes me more annoyed at myself cause I make the same mistakes😂😂

The chess community has kind of a dark side. Most people are nice though
@@Tidalstream you can say that about any homogenous community and oh boy is chess a homogenous one
Yeah felt like a bit of an overreaction. I read the comments most are pretty benign. A lot of people don’t like Pokimane which is understandable, they can dislike and unsubscribe if they choose.
Gotham came off as a bit petty and seems like he’s falling into the trap of many creators by focusing on the 1% negative and ignoring the 99% positive

Really enjoying the content levy, only recently found your channel after recently getting into chess. I love your passion for the game and you make me excited to play and learn more. Much love!
"These guys make their own meta"
the chess renaissance that were in right now gets attributed to Queens Gambit, but it really was the already vibrant internet chess community that took the momentum from that show and did something with it, such a cool positive thing to come out of this year
absolutely true. gotham & hikaru are fucking legends
Queens Gambit is terrible too, online chess making it accessible is definitely the bigger factor. If it was just the tv show I don't think anything would change.
And the most interesting thing is the involvment of all the nation's and languages like USA Canada India Russian all the European countries... South American countries...
The main thing is chess is the global sport and every culture either plays chess or it's variants like go shogi
Edit not variant rather all cultures have a strategic war game that dates 2000+ years old...

Levy: "You should be able to win 4 vs 1 Pawn Endgame. If you can't, then it's time for checkers."
Me who stalemated with 4 vs 1 Pawn Endgame: guess it's time for checkers
It was 150k on the main channel. However... there were 100k viewers at least on both xQc's and Rubius' channel. OVER 300K ON POGCHAMPS. SO PROUD OF CHESS.
i think many people had multi streams though. Hard to say how many unique viewers, but still a lot regardless.
Imagine thinking chess is an exclusive club. Gatekeeping will never make chess better. Keep up the positivity and I appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos, Levy.
at this point many of the gatekeepers just specifically target tiktokers and large female creators and they try to gatekeep them from literally everything because apparently "Tiktokers only do it for clout so they devalue the game" as if using tiktok means you deserve to have to live a miserable life in poverty and can't do anything else you enjoy. Shame on them and then they call everyone who is against their views simps. also btw there is nothing wrong with tiktokers themselves they are defined by much more than a cringey dance challenge where you go naked while a random vulgar rap song plays in the back
also I know there are more gatekeepers out there and they try to hate on anyone who isn't titled but the tiktokers suffer the worst and then the comment levy was referring to was on a video about poki and Anna's video with neeko
This GothamChess person looks like that Levy Rozman person

These videos are helping me improve my chess more than other videos because I'm just a 900 rated player and play more or less like this only so carry on the good work levy...enjoying these recap videos!!
These games are honestly more exciting than some of the world championship games
Nahhhhhh... but this is stupid fun though. Its like McDonald's or pop music
There is technically more action in NASCAR than F1 even though in NASCAR everyone is just turning left around an oval. I'd say Pogchamps has the same entertainment value as watching NASCAR.
@@charlesmartiniii1405 pop music is a great way to describe it. Enjoyable for a little bit, but it will get old so fast.
Excitement is just like beauty... It's in the eye of beholder... Like no IM / GM care for quality of chess in such events and are really happy to see their profession being appreciated. (Yes there are some old nonce who want it to be a stoopid guardian of chess from normally people)
Whereas us amateurs and fans love to see the competition and the chess.

Lost 1-2 minutes because of the annoying notifications and still managed to play good moves under time pressure. Props to xQc. xqcL
Find yourself a woman who loves you as much as Levy loves chess
He actually says he lost interest in the game, hence why he has no motivation to study and become GM
@ Y M well, but he can love the game without ambitions like becoming a GM or learning more about the game..

I think this is great. Keep doing the pogchamps recaps, very very fun to watch. I love the seriousness with which you treat these games and how you give them the proper analysis that they arguably deserve. Impressive to see streamers like sQc finding moves like Rd8, and as a roughly Northernlion level player (so slightly stronger than most in this event) it's super impressive to see these people regularly finding moves that I probably wouldn't
Thanks for the amazing content levi these recaps are very helpful and fun ❤️
that "go. we wont miss you." was bone chilling
I love watching new people play chess, it got me back into it after not playing for awhile. Sometimes it’s hard to watch them blunder, but it also helps me spot where they could have gone instead.

Really enjoying all your content. Very instructive for beginner and helping keep me sane during Phd write up and lockdown. Thank you :)
Absolutely savage outro, loved every second of it. And also, I loved every second of this video and the one before it. I've been getting back into chess recently (as many of us have), and I can't seem to break 1300. But gosh, it's so empowering to watch these people play -- there's moments of brilliance, there's blunders, and the whole tournament sounds like tremendous fun. Thanks for these videos :)
GOOD FOR YOU, that ending was gold. It takes a lot for a creator like yourself to wiling tell people to leave who are part of a crowd that you don't want being in your community. There are so many reasons why I come here for your chess content and acts like this remind me I am in the right place. A tip of the hat to you good sir and thank you for being awesome
