Hi, my plant is very large, I let it almost dry out then I put it in the bath tub and give it a shower washing all the leaves and then let it drain, and it thrives and gives 2-3 new leaves, it is an amazing plant. Thank you.

Beautiful to see this plant in its young stage. My imperial red of six years had to be cut up to propagate because the plant was so massive and grew out of its humongous terracotta pot. A few propagations were successful, so starting all over again. How I miss 😢 this plant.

Loved your video! Very helpful and to the point. A few months back I rescued my Philodendron Imperial Red form the trash and slowly trying to bring it back to life. Now it is giving me a new leaf every month and slowly getting that red colour back :) The problem is that when I rescued it, it lost all of the older leaves at the bottom, so now the stem is very long and without any leaves. What do you recommend me to do? Should I cut it and put it in water to see if it grows some roots? I do not want to risk killing it :(
Thank you! Unfortunately it will be difficult to encourage new leaf growth on the stem. I would recommend propagating the bare stem into individual nodes and growing them out. You can also try Keke paste however it will encourage a whole new stem to grow as opposed to just leaves

Thank you! I am sad to hear about you imperial green :(. I am sure that you are already doing this, but I would go back to basics on this one. Make sure that it is getting really good light, regularly provide it with plant food and only water when most of the soil is dry. I would also inspect the roots to see if there is any root rot and treat appropriately. It is a good idea to give the plant a hydrogen peroxide soil drech. This will provide oxygen to the roots and promote growth. Once that is done, you can sit back and let the plant recover over the coming spring and summer months.
Now you made me go and purchase another plant! Then I had to get an Imperial Green so the Red would have a sibling to grow up with. Geeez! Seriously thank you for the good direct information. Question, you said lemon water.... what ratio do you use when making that? And is there a specific benefit to using lemon? Thanks again. Take care!
Haha! Money well spent I say! There is no exact science to it. I typically use one lemon to one litre of water. The benefit of this is that is it natural and chemical free
You are very welcome! I would recommend 50% regular potting soil, 25% perlite and 25% bark. That will ensure excellent drainage. In terms of the lemon water, I would one lemon per gallon.
I got my plant yesterday from my grandpa since he has so many plants and flowers at the moment and was looking to get rid of some. I chose the Imperial Red one (didnt know the name at the time) because I just thought it was so pretty! Me and my aunt named her Lady and Lady currently sits by my window. I have a question about cleaning the leaves - do you just spray the leaves with lemon and water solution without wiping them down or do you wipe them down? If so, what should I use?
Yours is so so beautiful! Mine has had new leaves coming and they looked like yours, though once they were about to actually fully open they have just withered, despite the regular water schedule, light and humidity. Any tips on how to support the new growths?
Such a shame. I am sorry to hear that. I usually find that dropping leaves occurs from two major reasons, overwatering and bacterial infections. Ensure that the plant it's about 60% dry before watering it again (this usually take mine 2 weeks). To prevent bacterial infections, provide the plant with plenty of air circulation and ensure that water does not rest on the leaves

It sounds like your imperial red is doing great if it has loads of roots already. I wouldn't worry too much about the new leaf just yet. Mine has also been trying to push out some growth for a few months. They are slow growers and tend to do most of its growing in spring and summer

Hi there! Thanks for your comments. If your plant is getting lots of light and drys out quickly, I would water it every 1-1.5 weeks and water every other time during the spring and summer. If it is not getting much light, I would stick to once ever 2 weeks and fertilizes ever other watering as well. I hope that was helpful.
Hello there wonderful plant man, I have a question about the imperial red plant. There are little stem things sticking up around the plant that do not have a new leaf growing from them if I'm able to I will include a picture. I'm wondering if you know what those are or will it eventually turn into a leaf?
Hello there, it could be one of two things, Arial roots or leaf node. If they are roots that you could place the plant on a moss pole and allow it to root into it. This will make for a more resilient plant. It they are leaf nodes, leave them as they are. In most cases nothing will happen but if you every decide to propagate the plant, it will grow a new branch from there

I currently grow this one in LECA as it means I can water it less frequently. If you are not a fan of semi hydro, I would suggest I really chunky soil mix with lots of bark and perlite.

Hi there! It sounds like a bacterial infection. You should cut off the sections of the leaves that are infected. To avoid it further, ensure that your leaves are dry and that you have good air circulation. Bacterial infections can unfortunately spread from plant to plant so try to keep it from touching other plants until it has recovered.

Do you have a good potting mix recipe for this plant? I find that my 4inch imperial plants soil is very compacted and the roots are coming out from the top ? Instead of the drainage holes! I’m assuming it needs a repotting ?
Hi there, I would agree with you. I would suggest getting this plant in a really well driaing soil. Something like a third soil, bark and perlite. I have actually transitioned mine into LECA and it is loving life. It has produced 4 leaves in rapid succession. As always, the soil you choose depends on your environment and how much time you have. LECA means that I can forget about it for a few weeks. I hope this helps.
Hello! I just came across your page! Awesome video. I just purchased this plant off an Etsy site about two months ago. It has been doing well since repotting, however I notice now that two of its much smaller leaves are brown at the tips. 😣 I water it once a month. Do I just cut these leaves away, and how far down? Hi There, Thanks for getting in touch. What is the humidity level like? Also, watering once a month sounds a little low to me. This of course all depend on your conditions, but I tend to water mine at least twice a month

@@ericaw.5104 In that case I should say, welcome to the plant community 😊. I would recommend a humidity meter. You can pick one up relatively cheaply online. In terms of the leaves, you can trim away the brown tips and leave the healthy parts. It will help the plant to photosynthesize. I would only remove a leaf if the damage is more than 50%.
Hello there, it's could be sun burnt if they leaf is showing other signs of burning. It may also be a fungal infection which is common with these plants. This can be easily treated with antifungal sprays
I am having issue with after watering the leaves turning yellow on the edges. What am I doing wrong? I only watered couple times? I have schedule set on my app. I also reported it
The good news is that it doesn't sound like it has been overwatered. This plant can be prone to fungal infections. I would suggest trying to spray it with some antifungal prays

@@luisabyr3333 heyy! Net pots would be perfect but I tend to use regular nursery pots as they are more readily available. I sometime cut slits alongside the nursery pots for extra air flow In terms of setting it up, you would add about a third of the substrate into the pot, followed my the plant and then top up with more substrate. You can then place the pot into a reservoir

Good choice, the imperial red is an amazing plant. The lemon solution is a good choice. I tend to wipe it down with a microfibre cloth only

You are right. They are indeed aerial roots. Mine have some but the then to be very short and most are dried up

The top part of a large leaf on my has gone limp. What is the cause and how can fix it.
It could be due to root rot or colder weather. I would check the roots in the first instance

Hi There, Thanks for getting in touch. What is the humidity level like? Also, watering once a month sounds a little low to me. This of course all depend on your conditions, but I tend to water mine at least twice a month
@@RootsReady ~ I'm honestly just starting in my plant journey so all of the "humidity level" talk is new to me! I think its ok. 🤷🏾♀️ Its starting to get cool here in my area. I do plan to incorporate a humidifier in my plant room soon and increase the watering if you think this will help. Should I still cut back the leaves that have turned? Thank you!
@@ericaw.5104 In that case I should say, welcome to the plant community 😊. I would recommend a humidity meter. You can pick one up relatively cheaply online. In terms of the leaves, you can trim away the brown tips and leave the healthy parts. It will help the plant to photosynthesize. I would only remove a leaf if the damage is more than 50%.
Good Morning. I saw some red spots on my philodendron red diamond leaves. Could it be from too much sun.
Hello there, it's could be sun burnt if they leaf is showing other signs of burning. It may also be a fungal infection which is common with these plants. This can be easily treated with antifungal sprays

@@louisabyr6826 I use Provanto from Amazon. You can tell if it is fungal if it spreads across the leaf or from leaf to leaf
Mine has leaves just breaking off and I can’t figure out why…
It sounds like it could be down to overwatering or lack of light. Have you checked the soil?

The good news is that it doesn't sound like it has been overwatered. This plant can be prone to fungal infections. I would suggest trying to spray it with some antifungal prays

@@angelayarmakovich6098 you would have to spray the leaves. Any antifungal plant spray would work. I use provanto. You can also use a diluted hydrogen peroxide and water solution

@@luisabyr3333 No worries at all. I am happy to help. I am a big fan of leca and Pon. Believe it or not, I moved this plant to Leca a few months ago and it has continued to grow well. I have released a few videos talking about moving plants into passive hydro systems. You can check them out on my channel.

@@luisabyr3333 heyy! Net pots would be perfect but I tend to use regular nursery pots as they are more readily available. I sometime cut slits alongside the nursery pots for extra air flow
In terms of setting it up, you would add about a third of the substrate into the pot, followed my the plant and then top up with more substrate. You can then place the pot into a reservoir
