People have underestimated how important a player like Henderson is to Trent. Henderson allowed Trent to run up the pitch without having to constantly attack and trying to defend at the same time. Hendo used to cover those gaps something Elliott isn’t the best at. When he's in a normal position to defend he does ok but the problem is that he's often so far up the field trying to play overlaps with Salah that when the ball gets turned over he's 10-20 yards ahead of the ball and there's a massive hole where he should be. Even if he's got the pace, the stamina and the desire to get back he's still chasing the play and in a position of disadvantage. I don't know whether the solution is to move him up to a midfield position and replace him with a more defensive right back or play 5 at the back with 3 centrebacks to provide cover while allowing him and Robbo to rampage forward.

This season it's been way more harder for Trent. RCM where Elliot plays (Has been playing brilliant btw) doesn't help cover him enough not that its Elliot's fault. For example when Gini was in the team his role alongside Fabinho was to plug any holes left by either Trent or Robbo whilst also being box to box CM. Athletically its extremely hard for Elliot to do that job as he's not that sort of midfielder and when this season when Henderson has played there as his usual role he's not been his best. Will be intriguing to see how Klopp tackles this as he didn't get his two first choice midfield signings in summer (Touchmeni & Bellingham) Which means he already had an understanding that he need to refresh this area of the pitch. At the moment when we turn over possession (And then end up conceding a sloppy goal in previous seasons we wouldn't) It's almost always due to holes in the midfield.

Yes, we weren't that pressing monsters but we did enough to create doubts in the mind of ajax players & it was clear they felt uncomfortable. It was not easy, ajax counter attacked by playing deep & as predicted they scored from the left where trent is defending. It was lack of awareness from trent again but overall I thought he was ok. Jota for me led the gegen pressing from the front. By seeing his assist to salah, even Nunez assisted only for diaz to miss the shot. So I'll take this win against an unbeaten, in form Ajax any day.

he’s not even a defender except in the way they lineup at kick off. positions in football are fluid nowadays, his ability on the ball is too good to be restricted to a purely defensive role. also for those saying he should play in midfield, he basically already does, he takes up positions in midfield zones where he can utilise his best asset: crosses from the half space.
what they could probably do is re arrange the team in a way that means he has one of the three midfielders sitting in the space that he’s vacated but that could also ruin the attacking dynamic as well.

Although trent does occupy midfield spaces he only does it higher up the pitch where he is facing goal and can then put in a delicious cross but I dont think he should play there permanently as he doesn't track back and I don't think he has the technical ability to play out of pressure. Any top club that wants their fullbacks to prioritise defending when they're set up to dominate games has THEIR priorities wrong. He's been one of the best RB's in the world in one of the best teams in the world and won everything, breaking records and winning individual awards along the way. He's making some mistakes right now that are being compounded by the lack of cover from midfield and a lack of confidence around the team but we don't play him at right back for his defensive stability and never will, we play him there because he's one of the best creators in Europe. His role might need a bit of adjustment because he doesn't need to be popping up in the CF position and I think putting on extra bulk is affecting his mobility but it's genuinely fascinating to see how people want him to swerve doing the things he's done that make him amazing, and have won us everything, to become a bog standard 1960s fullback. Ignorance at its absolute best. The comparisons with Dele Alli the other day were a disgrace too, virtually no similarity there apart from a hairstyle and skin colour, Trent is still performing superbly in certain areas of the game, he's played some superb passes, set up some great chances and goals and scored a couple of great goals himself, plus he actually makes a ton of interceptions despite his reputation as a poor defender, including last night, and lives a grounded life away from football, he's absolutely nothing like Dele Alli who was playing like he'd won a competition to play, was contributing nothing and genuinely looked like he'd given up, while Trent does a load of stuff with independent companies and trainers to improve parts of his game. He's having a spell like he has every few months or so where idiots try to lecture the most creative RB in the world how he needs to play like a Roy Hodgson fullback, it's just tiresome at this point.

If Liverpool had a quality RB and could move TAA into the midfield you’d notice a huge difference in their results. I think Trent would get the plaudits he deserves too, he’s too good of a footballer to play as a RB

When facing his own goal he is blind to his left shoulder, and time and time again players escape down his left side and force The CDs out of position, and with a one man overlap ,bang ball is in the net.

Trent is good for the information of back 3

He should just be a wide midfielder in a 4-4-2 with Diaz on the other side as an inverted

Same with Maguire thinking when he scored that goal the pressure was off, but his defending got worse which is his only job actually
