    The Alfa mechanic showed me you only need to take out the back half of the cover and let it drop to reach the filter and drain plug. It works flawlessly and changed mine twice that way. Only took out about 6 bolts. Peace!

    pro tip for keeping track of screws is to use a piece of cardboard , label back front left right and then puncture the screws into the cardboard so you know EXACTLY where they came from. great video thanks for posting.

    Nice video.. We have a 2018 Stelvio so I'm going to follow your instructions and give it a try. Will let you know how it goes. Thank you for posting this video. Looks fairly easy to do besides having to remove all those under panel screws off but once they're removed, it looks a straight forward task. This is very helpful to me since the dealer charged us almost $300 for an oil change last time we brought it in. Thanks again!

      Repairs at dealership yes costly repairs from mechanics like myself who are truthful and know that theirs only a few of us good individuals left that aren’t going to lie and get over on people just because we can is the tricky part … I’ve been building engines for years my father and grandfather were both jacks of all trades just like myself so it’s in my blood …. Both my dad and grandpa taught me about having integrity what’s wrong is wrong and what’s right is right doesn’t matter how the person feels the truth is the truth lmao .. so I say that to say this I’ve had mechanics who I have taken my customer cars to the shop and I’ve done work to the vehicle before I would bring the car into the shop or dealership to be looked at and they would tell me oh the brakes would need to be replaced when they had 50% life left lol or that the transmission fluid would need to be flushed or that the tires needed to be rotated when every 7k miles … I would just watch and then in the end I would say I am mechanic myself and disown these people and ofc they would tell me I had to leave so I did but at least I got proof of these dealerships and service centers getting over on people … one of my customers went in to have the oil changed they told him he needed to have windshield wipers replaced , set of new tires which had about 40 % thread left and ofc with new tires they included an alignment check and tune … it’s a dirty game in the field but hey it’s kill or be killed unfortunately… find someone who’s loyal and trustworthy.. find someone who has a good customer portfolio and go from their don’t go to dealerships to have your car serviced… everyone can get a jack and jack stands and do the work themselves but if you don’t again find someone who’s a 5 star mechanic like myself .

    So I'm starting to think the issue people had with the oil level is they most likely didn't warm the car up before taking final readings. If they added more oil before it really warmed up that could be the cause of the over filling. Thanks for the content!

  • @rickj6048
    @rickj6048 Před 4 lety

    It's good that you mention not to over tighten the oil drain plug. My Mercedes V6 has a small green paint dot match mark from the factory. A friend told me it's there so the dealer can tell if the oil has been changed if you go in for warranty work. Don't know if that is true, but I ease up on tightening the drain plug if I get past there. Factory spec is 22 ft/lbs. You probably saved $100 to DIY.

    I have a 2012 giulietta in the UK with a 1.4 multiair turbo producing 170 bhp. I use 5w 40 full synthetic oil called Quantum Platinum, that I get from a VW dealer, the oil matches the exact spec and its cheap £18 for 5 litres, which is about 12 dollars. The oil must be good if they are using it on state of the art VWs. At this price I always change my oil and filter every 6 months which is 3,000 miles not the recommended 18,000.

    Those Jack stands are a real good idea. I can't tell you how many times I watched traditional ones fail or begin to slip. I use ramps but the execution is never easy with them.
    You can see where they make the filter and oil drain plug somewhat accessible if you were in a shop. Though I don't like the idea of removing that damned thing anymore. That vs 300 bucks is a smart move.
    (Vs My Mercury Grand Marquis. The worst thing is the filter placement being close to the radiator frame and being unable to do anything useful!)

    I'm assuming the large round piece of plastic is the air filter. Not the wisest design as you have the highest chance of the engine sucking water if you run through a puddle. I realise it's got the belly pan but it simply increases the risk. I'm certain they've run tests. Anyway cool tutorial:)

      if you find a good independent shop they should be able to reset it.

    • @quaarjet
      @quaarjet Před 4 lety +2

      @@autofanaticcars Negative, an independent shop will most likely not be able to do this unless they have a MOPAR WiTECh II tool, a tech net subscription, and being a Alfa Romeo Franchise. Starting the 2018 MY, FCA has begun to install a SGW (software gateway) that in order to communicate to the car and change car settings (including the oil minder), the scan tool needs to have an encryption key from FCA's servers. Independent shops typically don't have the capital to invest in these kinds of specialty tools unless it pays off for them. Also to buy parts you can't just go to your local dodge dealer and order Alfa parts, again they have to have purchased the franchise to get the privilege to sell them. Screwed up isn't it?

    Great video, hopefully you could do the reset portion and service intervals, did some research it’s not that cost-effective DUY to do it. You need the proper software, And two adapter cables if you use Multiecuscan software .A Wi-Fi ELM327 OBD link Interface, and Alpha Romero‘s built after February 2017 have a security module block ( SGW ) only the dealers can get into, you could buy a bypass. But the software can be purchased at an Apple app for $50 plus only license for one year. In short if you’re paying under $150 at a dealer for an oil change ,you’re better off

    Only thing I would add. Don't put the belly pan back on until you refill the oil, just in case you overfill it and have to drain any extra.

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  Před rokem +1

      it happened once these cars without a dipstick are a total PITA to get the fill lever correct because I do not trust the sensor or dash display. I usually fill with 5 quarts, drive for a day and check and it seems for every new oil change the Stelvio will take an honest 6 quarts of oil to get the dash reading correctly.

    I just changed the oil on my recently acquired Stelvio, and after adding 5 quarts of oil, I ran for a bit on level ground and of course have to use the stupid dash level indicator. After adding another .5 quart as the stated capacity is 5.5 quarts the level still reads slightly below maximum capacity. Does anyone know if this is normal? I do not 100% trust the electronics and do not want to overfill.

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  Před 2 lety

      yeah the electronic leveling sucks in these cars. Just did my QV and it has a dipstick and its full to the top but the dash shows 3/4 that is why so many 2.0 engine blow up i bet because most owners are not aware of the oil burning etc

    • @cmlf1
      @cmlf1 Před 2 lety

      @@autofanaticcars wouldn’t be surprised. I hate the lack of dipstick on any vehicle. I know where the level is indicated with the claimed capacity of 5.5 so will keep an eye on it. The dealer performed an oil service when we picked the car up and the level indicator was not as high as it is now, leading me to believe the put 5 quarts I and that’s it. As long as it’s between the marks they are fine with it but I like my fluids topped up.

      of course you can. You can make a oil change (it changes about 50-70% of the oil) or you flush the transmission (100% oil change). Its a ZF transmission, there are videos on youtube where you can see how they do it, at least in german. Doing it by yourself is not easy and flushing is only possible in a workshop who has the hardware needed for a flush but you only have to do it about every 112k miles (180k km). The filter will be changed with the transmissioncover together because its integrated in it. But i dont know how well this process is known outside of germany or europe.
