Seascape Painting with Acrylic Paints

- Today we are painting a seascape at sunset, with acrylic paints. I don't use acrylics very often but but thought it would make a nice change to try them again.
Acrylics dry darker than when you apply them (not lighter as I wrote in my video!).
I used to paint with acrylic paints when I painted murals on walls (not graffiti!) - especially exterior murals as acrylic paint is very durable.
I have a very limited amount of colours left and the palette for this painting consisted of: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue and Lamp Black.
I mixed water with the paint to begin and then switched to a Matte Medium which I use like a glaze medium which thins the paint.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Like the video? Why not buy me a coffee?

You have a great technique, no doubt developed over time. I prefer your work direct from the subject, painted or drawn on site. Super work, landscape artist of the year for me.
Thank you so much 😀
I appreciate your kind comments and support
Dear lord, that's phenomenal. Probably my favorite one so far.
Thank you for this one and lots of love from Poland, Andrew!
Thank you so much ☺️

Nice one Andrew - thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it
It's magical the way the painting emerges - I also loved those studies on the wall to your right.
Thank you very much Frankie
I learn a lot watching your technique. Great stuff Andrew!

Thanks so much Johnny
Fun to watch, can see you know your sea, recognize the light from my own coast, only it would have been sunrize here😂
Thanks Susana. 😃
love it.
Thank you Tony
Thank you for this acrylic demo. Do you think it would be similar if you painted this same image in oils? I use both, acrylics and oils; the first easier when traveling. Loli 🙂
You’re welcome. I think the end result would be fairly similar although maybe more texture with oils
Andrew, how do you keep your acrylics drying out on your palette? Always love your videos. Thank you.🙏⚘️
Thank you so much Reese. I’m afraid I let them dry on the palette. It makes me paint faster 😃
You can buy ‘stay wet’ palettes or use cling film over the top 👍🏻
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt thank you 😊
I thought acrylics dry darker than when applied….?
You are correct Roger. I made a mistake in my editing 😮
@@AndrewBarrowmanArtsorry…don"t like to be correcting you..but that’s what I thought you’d done..
