"Vorse Raider" is another example of how the GBA games warped my perception of what cards were available in the TCG back in the day. Along side "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" and "Meteor Black Dragon".
Don’t forget Blast Sphere and Ring (or Bell) of Destruction
blue eyes ultimate can be good with waking the dragon or cyber stien lol
@@JakeLT64 yeah but Ring didn't took that long to come to the TCG, it came in 2003's Pharaonic Guardian, the very last set with Magic Cards before it changed to Spell Cards in Magician's Force.

I think what's even crazier than Vorse Raider being relevant is the Fire Formations 100 atk boost being relevant.
I was really angry how long it too Konami to welcome Vorse Raider into the TCG. Heck, we were abusing Gemini Elf, 7 colored Fish, Kycoo the ghost destroyer and Injection Fairey Lily more! By the time of GX, Gene Warped Werewolf was the newer abuser
Man Gemini Elf back in 2003 from Labyrinth of Nightmare was a GAME CHANGER. Y’all had to be there for it. One copy easily ran you $40-$50 dollars back in the day and you NEEDED 3. This is before Vorse Raider. Ahh man I miss the Vanilla cards in the main deck back in the days for the beat down method. Good times.
I dunno man. I'd say Saggi the Dark Clown is Seto Kaiba's other iconic normal monster.
This reminds me a lot of how Kwagar Hercules and Kaminari Attack, two normal fusion monsters with no particularly good stats, turned from pack filler into highly wanted cards thanks to their specific type and level being the perfect target for being cheated out of the Extra Deck, in Thunder Dragon and Beetrooper decks respectively.
Karbonala warrior and Cherubin Knight also saw play with instant fusion, gotta love "eternal formats" for these things

I love when a random old card just happens to be exactly what a certain deck needs. I think my favorite that I can recall is 1800 five star vanilla Dark Witch being meta for a certain deck
It was for brilliant fusion Monarchs when their structure dropped, had great synergy with the deck
Genius Seed Lochi is a vanilla plant level 1 monster with 0/0 stats but yet starts a whole U-Link combo in Rikka Sunavalon plant decks.
I honestly never knew that Vorse Raider was ever in the competitive scene. Although, after seeing all the synergy, it makes a lot of sense. That is what I love about this game. Random old cards will suddenly be viable and no one will see it coming.
The case for mushroom man# 2 with Kashtria match up unironically found a 20 year old card to made meta relevant that was horrible lol.
Vorse was with gemini elf & mechanicalchaser but only kaibas structure & the gba game had it & the structure was hella expensive even now & chaser was around 150-200$+. lol
Kaiba's signature LV4 Monster, love the card personally.
Vorse raider, Gemini elf, Slate warrior, Sabersaurus, Goblin attack force, probably some of the best level 4 cards
Vorse Raider was one of my favorite cards back in the day. I immediately added 3 into my deck when it came out in the TCG. I ran a beatdown deck with multiple level 4 1900 ATK monsters in 2005-2006. Today I'm running something a lot better; anti-meta beatdown with 3 Inspector Boarder and 3 Thunder King Rai-Oh. My deck evolved like fine wine but I freaking miss Vorse Raider in my deck. I even thought about running 3 Vorse Raider in my Goat Format deck.
The period a normal lv 4 with 1900 atk monster was considered strong

Red-Eyes Dark Magician would be a sick card concept.
I find it funny how a Normal monster like Blue-Eyes Red-Eyes and Dark Magician on the field because of having no effect at all make opponent handtraps and other card effects that taget effect monsters dead cards in their hand (effect veiler) or on the field (Skill Drain) if you just need to chip away some LP and got them protected (TrueLight Eternal Soul).
I remember how years ago on DevPro or some simulator like that I was playing my BEWD deck against Harpie. I had BEWD on the field and he had a set Fiendish Chain and no other disruption. I won with that BEWD alone because he couldn't do anything about it. :D

Vorse Raider my favorite normal monster in the game love it was meta for the deck devastation virus combo shows how any card can be good if paired correctly with the right Deck

Is 2000 the cap for normal 4 star monsters or has that been surpassed too? 15 years ago when I was playing gemeni elf was the shit at 1900.
I actually run three in my Edison vanilla beat deck. He’s 1900, and he plays well with Allure of Darkness, Common Charity, and RFTDD
I used Vorse Raider in my original Fire Fist deck when that archetype was released.
I would summon them with Rescue Rabbit, because they are beast warriors they could xyz into Tiger King.
I didn't have Gene Wared so that had to do for me.
Another great vid Cap!! The FF Rabbit deck was my first Top 8 and I mained the Vorse Raider/DDV package. It was crazy strong. I enjoyed that format so much, I built FF, Mermail, and Wind-Up decks from the era to play for fun now. Can’t wait to see what card you talk about next 👍🏼

Konami seriously needs to significantly buff the stats of normal monsters in comparison to effect monsters of similar levels
That arguably would help, but I'm not sure how impactful it would be in a game as dominated by effect monsters as Yugioh tends to be. The way I see it, what normal monsters need most is good support, as they are more often played these days for having particular synergies with certain cards than anything else, as has been the trend for a long time now. As you mentioned about giving them better stats, while this arguably would be impactful in some circumstance, it should be mentioned that because other cards have just as good of statlines but with actual effects, those monster tend to be preferred because normal monsters just don't offer anything on their own by comparison, which is why decks that play them have historically most often used them because of what you could do with them by combining them with other cards. The statline thing also holds true for other non effect monsters as well, as you typically had a better extra deck card to go into for the same materials needed because of the difference having an effect makes, hence why I believe that needing better support is the main problem that keeps them largely out of the metagame as a whole
That's why we have fusion deployment and the black stone of legend for red-eyes round dragon lol
I remember that 1850 atk was insanely sought after just because it had 1850 and I believe this was before 1900s existed. I don’t exactly remember the timeline but I remember I just ran a typical exodia mag/trap deck before many things were banned during that time lol

Vorse Raider and Gemni Elf were the best 1900 monsters back in the day when Yugioh first came,when the power creep was not as bad as it is now if you play competitive yugioh nowadays.
When the powercreep was not as bad? Oh my gosh, the game was SO powercreep heavy even back then, that every single month, whenever a new booster came out, a new monster became the meta. 1600ATK, 1800ATK, 1850ATK (only available from Tournament Booster Set for a while!) then 1900ATK, after then 1800ATK monsters with effects, then 1900ATK monster with effects (Breaker), then monsters you could SPECIAL summon with high attack (especially Cyber Dragon). Yu-Gi-Oh! was ALWAYS famous of its powercreep and unbalanced design. The main issue today is that aside from powercreep, we also have featurecreep and complexity increased, and due to it we reach new levels where new cards are breaking the fundamentals of how the game is meant to be played (Ishizu Tearlaments).
@@Gwinnmusic true what you said,the best way to compare yugioh is to the subject of math,at the beginning easy, addition,subtraction,multiplication,division but the moment you add letters with word problems,algebra and beyond is fucken hard and complex as hell. Power creep always has been there not as bad compared to now dude.
@@Gwinnmusic YGO Powercreep is more acceptable if they can keep the speed in at least 4-5 turns game. But when the game becomes 3 turns or less, it feels more like luck-based game, where you must draw your right handtrap or die in the next turn.

Vorse Raider is one my favorite designs on a monster, i even when i do roleplay duels with my Friends and no matter how much support Kaiba gets i always play the og Vorse raider

And then Konami retrained it into a tribute monster. WHY (Update. I mean to compare to another Beast Warrior Kaiba used. Battle Ox. Its retrain Enraged Battle Ox is still Level 4 with the same stats but it gained the ability to inflict piercing damage)

The best set of rules for normal monsters i saw in another yugioh formats is in Trinity
In Trinity, you can only summon thrice per turn, but summoning normal monsters doesn't count as 1 of the three summons you have in a turn. Because of this rule, normal monsters can become a tool to spam the board and i think it's really cool to summon a lot of normal monsters on your field and destroy your opponent with them (magnet warriors are quite strong for exemple)

All four-sta or lower normals were meta if they had beatstick attack. That did not change until mid-late zexal.

Red-Eyes has not had anywhere near enough support than the DM and BE and it's always different and sub-par stuff. RE still needs a lot of support.

Summon 1800-1900 maybe even 2300 Goblin attack force, throw whatever axe of despairs mage powers or united we stands pulled on er.
Set cylinder, mirror force, or OG ring of destruction.
So bad, even then compared to mad scientist, cyber stein, yada etc.
but the schoolyard was not ready, especially when they JUST learned they can’t summon their 8 star without 2 sacrifices

Side note Links should’ve been made before Pendulum then Pendulums last.
1. Face down cards can’t be used as fusion material but can be used for tributes of a ritual or tribute summon or effect.
2. 1 Normal summon and 1 set or 2 sets (or 2 normal Summons)
(Either Or or 1 set, 1 normal summon, 1 tribute Summon)
3. You can normal summon in face-up defense position
4. Tokens can be used as xyz material
5. Increase the Extra and Side deck to 20
7. Link monsters can be used as synchro material but count as level 0 ofc
8. get rid of missing timing
9. Get rid of properly summoning
10. Ritual monsters that say “YOU CAN ritual summon this card” can also be Special or Normal summoned like regular monsters. Only Rituals that say “MUST BE” must be ritual summoned.
11. Unlimited normal summons of normal monsters and of any level 1-8
12. Links aren’t restricted to the EMZONES To be Summoned
13. Pendulum summoning from the face-up extra deck aren’t restricted to linked zones
14. Once per turn on either turn each player can activate 1 trap from their hand
15. when a monster attacks another monster that has higher DEF points it’s destroyed after damage calc.
16. Both players can use both the EMZones for any type of monsters.
17. any combination of cards with mutual links can be used to have control of a monster in both mid field Extra Monster Zones. Instead of just the U lock ( u-v-L locks don’t lock your opponent’s out of the extra deck tho)
18. Monsters in the Mid field Extra monster Zones can be used by either player for The summons of Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, XYZ, Link and tributes for tribute Summons. Now both players benefit and take a risk by using the Extra monsters zones
19. Monsters in the Pendulum Zones can be used by (the controller) for The summons of Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, XYZ, Link and tributes for tribute Summons
20. You can Fusion summon fusion monsters without poly by Summoning material on top/in the same zone as the other material.( for monster that requires 3 material the material must be on field or in hand just like how poly works.
( if you’ve play Dark Duel stories then you’d know how this works)
( its just a choice between letting this summoning mechanic be a fusion summon or not which ofc it should be counted as Fusion summon so then monsters gain their effects and if the material is sent to the gy or is stays stacked in the same zones.)
21. Bring back the Pendulum zones but you can only pendulum summon monsters equal to the # of zones in between where you placed your scales in the back row. So with how the board is set up now you can only pen summon 3 monsters. So if you want to summon 5 they’d need to bring back pendulum scale zones plus it’d be cool to set traps in your pendulum zones yk
22. Link monsters Arrow can be used to climb up or down the field creating EMZones on your opponent’s field or your own S/T zones
23. Both And/or Link arrows just let the link monster attack the zones it points to along with monsters in the same Column
24. Monster in the main monster zones can only attack the monsters in the same column as themselves and when the zone is empty you can attack directly.
25. Monsters In the Mid Field Extra Monster Zones have the chance to target any monsters in the main monster zones for attacks along with the other Mid Field Extra Monster Zone
26. While In the EMZ or main monster zones Pendulum monsters can attack S/T cards/ cards in the S/T zones in the same column as itself. (No damage is delt) Or pendulums can only attack an opponent’s Cards in the S/T zones while its been summon to the opponent’s field (in your control) bc the arrow a link monster points to an opponent’s main monsters zones
27. Pendulum monsters in the Pendulum zones can only attack monsters in the mid field Extra monster zones or Cards( monster, S/T) across from itself on the opponent’s field in the Pendulum Zones.
28. All monsters have battle protection from monsters with lower Levels/Ranks then themselves and also have Battle vulnerability with monsters that have a higher Level/ Rank then themselves. Meaning they are instantly destroyed after damage calc when battling a monster with a higher Level/ Rank

All monsters have battle protection and instant destruction upon attacks on monsters in this oder. Level 12 beats level 11 and below and Rank 1 beats level 12 and below ect ect ect
29. You can start duels with any number of Pendulum’s monsters face-up on top of the extra deck for you to Pend summon but they take up space in your extra Deck
31. Add a secondary Extra deck thats only for spells and traps thats 5-10-20 cards and you can once per turn set 1 trap or add it to your hand and 1 activation/set of a spell or add it to your hand
( only in the main phase of the turn players turn)
(Pendulum monsters can be place here to)
(You Activate any spell you choose from the speed spell deck or you set it depends on if you wanna extra zone to activate spells from or if you wanna make it more of a guess which card is my trap cards kinda deal)
31. Create a separate banlist for the speed spell deck
32. All together your once per turn resources become
1 set of a trap or add it to your hand
1 set of a spell or add it to your hand
1 normal summon
1 set of a monster
1 pendulum summon
1 activation of a trap from the hand

I loved vorse raider in "Stairway to the Destined Duel."
Call me a boomer, but I think the game never should have progressed past that point.

I miss old yu gi oh when you had 3 of vorse raiders, Gemini elves and luster dragons 4 star 1900 monsters who were a free summon and usually got over most 900-1800 monsters that didn't require tributes and could even be your boss with buff cards like axe of despair or unicorns horn black pendant etc and a bunch of traps to stun attscks or negate summons

This is one of the reasons why I think Rush Duels shouldn't had Normal Monsters.
At least Vrose Raider got a retrain, Kaiser Vorse Raider which is arguably worst than the vanilla one because of it's level 5 that makes unable to combo out with Tenki, otherwise it would had some competitive play.
