Hey. Love the review. I just wanted to say that as a totally blind person, this toothbrush is absolutely phenomenal
Because everything is controlled with audible beeps.
You can feel the pressure sensor, it beeps when it's charging, and activating features is all done by beeps and tones.
    Really good for me
The brush head reminder apparently beeps too.
Best toothbrush I've ever used! Thanks for considering us!

Bought three of these as Christmas gifts for our family. Two failed with less than a year of use - exactly the same failure mode. As an engineer, I think there is a fundamental design problem - the old design (screw-on heads) provided complete mechanical isolation between the vibrating brush and the handle, while in new design, the head slips onto a shaft protruding from the end of handle, and the lateral brushing motion creates a lateral vibration that is transferred into the handle and its internal components. In the old design, cumulative mechanical stress was contained within the brush head which was expendable and therefore discarded regularly. But in the new design, that stress accumulates on components within the handle. Both of the failures we experienced seem to me to be a consequence of that repetitive mechanical vibration.

Any of the Philips Sonicare brush heads will technically fit and work with the Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 (the e-series head being the exception).
However, if you want to make use of the brush head replacement reminder and the mode pairing features, you need to use brush heads that have the RFID chip built into them, that make them BrushSync compatible.

If I had to pick between the Oral-B iO Series 5 and 6, then the iO6 would be my choice.
They clean comparably to the Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100.
There are differences such as brush head size and how certain features are implemented. For example, the Sonicare will tell you if brushing too hard, but it won't tell you if you are brushing with the correct pressure like the iO Series handles.
There is no Bluetooth connectivity and real-time tracking on this model either.

      - Put the handle on the plugged-in charger.
      - Press and hold the power on/off button while the handle remains on the charger.
      - Keep the power on/off button pressed until you hear a series of three short beeps (after 6-7 seconds).
      - Release the power on/off button.
      - Triple tone of low-med-high means the pressure sensor feature has been activated. The brush head replacement light and battery light will also blink green 3 times in unison to confirm activation.
      - Triple tone of high-med-low means the pressure sensor feature has been deactivated. The brush head replacement light and battery light will also blink amber 3 times in unison to confirm deactivation.
      - If you continue holding the power on/off button after the three short beeps, the activate/deactivate sequence repeats.
