    Out of all the boats I have seen, this boat fit me like a glove for my wife and I. Just perfect for me. Arm rest on the operating sets with controllers and coffee cup holder. What a boat! I love this thing. I love to fish and this boat could be made custom for fishing. I will remember this one.

    This is revolutionary for sure concerning boats. I mean electric propulsion.
    It needed to enter also in the world of navigation this concept, isn.t that so ??!?!
    Just imagine a lot of lithium batteries on the botton of the boat, keeping stability & boat ferm on position, but not only ... think at the range in silent mode and a lot of other advantages i guess.
    It is a beautiful dream for future. As other subscriber said, i will keep eyes on Hardy from now on.
    Nice tour as always Nick. Thanks for sharing ... To the next one. Keep it up my friend !
    RESPECT !!

    Hardy hit the nail on the head with this when it first came out, the only thing that put me off was the twin engine configuration. This deserves to be a popular set up. Well done to Cockwells, they have come a long way.

      I think it was Bering that hooks all of it to a gear box where the engines can be used to turn the electric motor that can act a a generator and removes the need for the separate generator and they put a battery bank in its place. I am still surprised that no one has used the roll-able solar panels as a roof owning to add extra power sure it will wear out in a few years but compared to the cost in gas it can save it will still be cheaper. Neat boat but man will I hate working on that generator.

Evening thunderstorms made for a racket. Worst was roosting gulls clanking around on the aluminum along with the scotch, bourbon, vodka fueled sight seeing marina putters at 3:00am. Sounds of engine Glug, glug, glug glug, drunk captain "yaaaaa - - Party --- yee haw ----, crunch, oh shit, fast glug, glug, glug glug, along with tap, scape, tap, scape, tap, scrape of the gulls overhead on the damn aluminum awning. David just did a video on the future of Yachts (For Sale), where he mentioned hybrids as well as fuel-cell yachts. It's so good to see this. I'm extremely intrigued by on-board solar- and wind-powered hydrogen generator plants for fuel-cell drives, and although I don't think we're quite ready for that yet, it's definitely the future of yachting. Thanks so much for this tour!

    • @mikedonovan9033
      @mikedonovan9033 Před 2 lety

      This is about as good as it gets. ~ 15nm range in batteries, if you pushed the pack size to the extreme you could probably get a 30nm bank in a boat.
      The limitation is the energy density. Diesel fuel has 20x as much energy per liter as the most advanced lithium ion battery packs, which adjusted for engine efficiency (Electric motors use that energy more efficiently than diesel engines) gives diesel fuel a 10x volumetric advantage over batteries, assuming you're using the best battery technology on the market, which you're not.
      And then, assuming you sacrificed the space required to carry those batteries, you have the problem of actually charging them. At 480v 100amp shore power, an energy delivery capacity which is certainly rare, if it exists at all, people more familiar with marinas would have to chime in, you're looking at a charge time of ~ 12 hours AT BEST to get 100 equivalent diesel liters of usable energy, which means it is going to take days to charge those battery packs in the absolute best of conditions.
      When considering solar panels, it's irrelevant. The amount of solar panels that could be reasonably fitted to a boat would produce so little power relative to the size of these battery banks it's not even worth considering, like filling a swimming pool with a squirt bottle.
      So yeah, outside of gimmicky applications or extremely specific circumstances like this boat (which still charges the batteries using diesel in the end, the electric motor is really just there for noise free crushing between docks, so there's no low emission advantage to this at all), electric boats don't exist. The battery technology to store the energy required to move them doesn't exist, and the electrical infrastructure to charge some theoretical batteries in a reasonable amount of time doesn't exist either.

    Nick dropped another one and my lunch became very tasty indeed! This is a great boat for what it's been built for and if I owned it, I'd use it exactly as intended, doing both coasts and inland waterways. Great find and great tour as always :-)

      I agree! I often watch an Aquaholic vid with morning coffee, or having a quick lunch. Don’t ask me why, but it works!

    I really like this, I've always been a fan of Harry's and this just cements my liking of them. Great your as always and I'd love to see a video of the 65.
