All beautifully Old School, and being a Lochin owner I do appreciate the seagoing characteristics of the semi displacement. Not sure 2 x 180 hp will get it much above 14 kts, so many were fitted with more power, say 2 x 300hp which would give I guess 22 kts flat out. Super value if it was on the market I expect. Good review by an expert who clearly knows his stuff.

Beautiful and dependable. I recently sold my Weymouth 32 after 11 years of total reliability with Perkins engines. Many single handed trips across the Channel and if you keep the speed down, very economical. A return Channel trip, Brighton to Fécamp and back for around £200 @ 8 knots. That was before the recent large fuel price increases. You can travel at 5 knots with comfort, 8 in choppy conditions, then if rough, push through with more speed.

Absolutely, once you appreciate not charging around at 25 knots it is just lovely to enjoy the passage. I guess that is one of the reasons they appeal to sailors coming over to motor boats. I find I simply adjust speed to suit the sea state in my semi displacement boat.

Simply being a V bottom or round bottom has nothing do with whether its a planing hull or not. There are full displacement V-bottoms in this world and fully planing round bottom hulls. Especially the latter. Good examples are Jersey sea skiffs which are moderate speed planing hulls, and many New England lobster boats. The Nelson Weymouth here is semi-planing not because its round bottom, but because of the fact that it narrows enough at the stern to perform as such. In fact the actual bottom at the stern is mostly flat to give as much planing efficiency as possible. I quite admire this boat's sound construction and good seaworthy hull with proper deep forefoot.

2x 185s. Hmm. Seems a bit underpowered to me.

Great boats but this one has only one forward facing seat below for the Helm. Apart from part of the starboard side ‘sofa’ aft. Co .Pilot or other passengers can only sit ‘sideways’ horrible in a beam sea and not that nice in any sea. Stupid layout , if you can’t ‘forward face’ it really spoils the journey

Thanks for the feedback Rich, its a fair point but I guess being an older boat the seating configuration could be changed being somewhat 'analogue'!. Still a heck of a boat!

@@themarinechannel agree totally chaps, likes your report/ assessment of the vessel by the way!
I have an Aquastar 38 at the moment as you know a very similar hull
It was very handy to have a ‘planing’ hulled vessel adjacent for you to explain the Darren e in the hull shape and characteristic’s
I’m obviously a fan of the semi displacement form
We use the Aquastar for pleasure and training in North Wales
      Good luck chaps!
      👍😁
