And wanted to reboot to use local admin, rather than simply use a runas /user:...
There was an uber god mode before Vista, System. You'd psexec /s software, which then runs as system, having even more privileges than local or domain admin on that machine. That's largely limited now by UAC - sort of, but can still have its occasional uses more easily accessed via powershell.

Delayed startup is quite useful for a lot of services. Keep the ones that you know you want to start immediately on automatic and change the others to delay them which basically throttles them for a minute or two then starts them up automatically. It just smooths over the startup process a slight bit, but is worth doing on a weaker system.

It makes Windows show the time down to the second in the systray. Not sure why this isn't selectable for normal users without regedit. I mean, I use this on LITERALLY EVERY Windows machine I use. I even used it on the PCs I was issued at the last 2 companies I worked for.

About Group Policy editor: there was no rule restricting access to it a few years ago, so at my school my friends and I were able to open GPedit and remove all restrictions on each computer we used. That was great
Edit: A few months later we got suspensions for some of our computer exploits, and after that year the school upgraded all the computer security and I was never able to do such things again although I didn’t try very hard. We did do some similar things and got more suspensions but that was also for making a website mocking the school and a 24 hour CZcams livestream… a story for another time.

The main difference between a background process and a service is that the service runs in its own session, which in practice means it keeps running when you log out and starts before you have logged in. Usually they run under a system account which has full access to all files also but it can be configured. A background process on the other hand starts like your normal program and your normal user and quits when you log out. I know this because I've worked for a software company and we had to package parts of our suite as service for some of our customers for this exact reason.

You pointed out how the Disk Management tool can be dangerous, but what's more dangerous is DiskPart because if you issue a clean command within DiskPart, it blows away all the partitions on the selected disk with absolutely no warning. But, you can recover your partitions with your favorite partition recovery software, as long as you haven't written anything to the disk after your "accident". It takes many, many hours, depending on the size of the disk.

True, composite devices are often just devices made of several devices that work independently (like webcams with integrated microphones). I guess a drive can pop up as such a device in certain cases, but even composite devices pop up as the individual subdevices in addition to being summed up as composite (settings of the composite device gives a good list usually)

They should be listed under "Disk drives". Be prepared for strange names though, not necessarily matching the brand. More interesting is "View", "Devices by connection" which lets you see the internal organisation of the PC.

I accidentally joined a domain with Windows 10 pro and couldn't leave it since all of my accounts lost admin access. I used something called "mini Windows 10" to gain admin access and I was able to leave

My work has made me appreciate Windows 10 more and more. Because I work as a QA tester, and sometimes if a few of my company's customers use older systems we have to test our apps for proper legacy support. Sometimes going as far back as Windows 2000, and that sure ain't fun to use nowadays.

In some of the later versions of windows, getting to computer management, device manager, disk manager, and many other features can be accessed through the start menu context menu by right clicking on the start menu. Give it a try and impress your friends.

8:41, you can use task scheduler to run things on start up and logon, even with a delayed task, to give more granular control over stuff, i have also had problems with programs just making themselves a trigger on logon which wasnt shown by task manager, the start up folder or anywhere in the program its self

  • @adamb89
    @adamb89 Před 4 lety +2

My go-to method for opening the startup folder is to simply type "startup" in the address bar of the file explorer and hit enter. You jump right there. Another good tip is the net1 command. It functions identically to net, but was created as a failsafe back during the Y2K scare, and was just never removed from any subsequent version of Windows. In an office environment the administrator might disable the net command for standard users, but they usually forget about net1 so you can use that as a workaround.
Lastly, I would suggest that everyone know how to map network folders to a drive letter. This is particularly handy if you maintain a SharePoint site collection or something like that, you can map that server URL to a drive letter and interact with the file system directly.

One thing that's helped me a number of times ... Command prompt in admin mode, type "sfc /scannow" without quotes. This scans your PC and checks that windows system files are correct and fixes ones that aren't. Don't forget the space after sfc.

Another way to activate super Admin without cmd is to type “mmc” in the run box wich opens my management console. And from there navigate to local users and activate the admin from Windows. Note that you can save all the config changes to a folder so you don’t have to go and change all the settings again after rebooting.

@4:46 ,I messed up big time once with that menu. I changed it to diagonistic startup tui check, coz I thought something made my PC startup slower. But ..but .. little did knew, on lockscreen it was asking for only the password which I forgot .. since I was not using it for ages, I was using PIN .. forgot password wasn't working either lan&wifi drivers were down. It was hell of a task to come out of it and there are little to no resources available on the internet about that.
