This Made Me Fall in Love with Rome Total War Again in 2024

- Rome Total War is the game that never gets old, but it CAN get too familiar. If you've been playing more recent Total War games or grand mods, you might start to feel like the original Rome Total War campaign is a bit too small, and a bit too easy. But if you also feel like a mod like RIS Imperium Surrectum can get way too big, then I've got the perfect mod compilation for you!
In this video, I'm showing you some of the best vanilla-enhancer mod for Rome Remastered, intended to give you a Total War experience that feels like the good old thing, but slightly altered to give you more immersion, slightly more depth, and just more game to love. All of these mods can be found on Steam, so make sure you check them out!
Have you tried any of these mods, or are you going to for that vanilla enhancement feeling? Let me know in the comments, and please remember to leave a like, a comment, and subscribe to the channel! :)

Thanks Andy! When I released the Map it really was just for a modding resource, and a pre-cursor to the port of ahowl11s Vanilla Enhancement Mod. I didn't know it would end up being so much fun in it's own right! Glad you are enjoying it and thanks for the video! Leading RIS (with the awesome members of the team) and trailblazing to basically push RR to its limits is fun, but I too will never lose my interest for the smaller and simpler scale of what RR is and what can be done to spice it up without ruining the original feel.
Also, I just wanna make a shout out to the Roma Surrectum 2 team who made the base map that I used. All I did was overhaul the regions to my liking based on my own research and desire to enhance each vanilla faction :)
Thank you for the great mods, you and others have brought immeasurable amounts of joy to Total War players!
Literally the only thing it's missing is mercenaries, there are no mercenary pools in any of the regions 🤭
Rome is absolutely perfect, IMAGINE the Remastered includes a 3 men Multiplayer campaign and everyone is playing a Roman faction and then civil war...... still dreaming about it
How did u know my dream?? 😢
@@leopad1312 i guess we arent the only 2 😌
That was my biggest hope with the Remaster, even if it was just 2 player multiplayer campaign i would have been elated
I POOO 💩
My friends would have to be cool enough to understand Roman history for that to even happen lol. But that would be sick
Rome remastered is all the total war I need nowadays. That is until Dawnless Days releases or Med 1212AD gets a big update
You don’t know how much I want a Medieval total war 2 remastered with this type of mod 😢
Me too... it would literally be IT
@@AndysTake I don't know why they didn't make Rome remastered using the M2TW engine. That way they could have remastered two titles while fixing a lot more issues.
If only they made a multiplayer campaign for this...
Eeyyy, thank you for the mention of my mod :)
My pleasure, thank you for making it! :D
Wait. Danymok’s mod is compatible with ahowl’s map? Because it’s the only reason I don’t play the map; using Danymok’s units is a necessity for me these days! I wonder, does this mean the Barbarian Engineering mod is compatible too, because that’s built off Danymok’s mod. Now I really want to load up a game and see how they work!
Sadly, Barbarian Engineering does not work with Ahowl’s map. Danymok’s really does though.
@@stevencass8849 Danymok's mod doesn't work with Ahowl's map for me. It says in the launcher there's a conflict with the two, and I can't start any campaigns as a result.
If only we could get this map for Rome 2
Looks pretty epic! Thanks for posting.
my pleasure :)
RTR RIS
SUCH a good Mod
Do any of these mods put the General in the middle of the formation? Got spoiled to that in newer Total Wars. Great video I'll have to check these out they look like a good way to spice up the game.
I love Rome total war but oh God I hate the Remastered UI, something about it just feels wrong. Great video tho.
i think I just found my next set up for a playthrough on this. Been looking for the right mods to play Rome remastered with...and have not REALLY played the game yet (as I am playing a million other games plus the great and terrible game of adulting....) but this video just sealed the deal for me.
It's great stuff. I tried a Roman campaign though and just going to have to wait until they get to that part of the map. Only rebels there. And, like, they wouldn't even attack me by leaving their settlement. So every battle was just a siege battle. It's fun if you play in Greece though. Or Anatolia.
Thanks for the recommendation! Link is missing though.
how do you get the map enhancement to work with the extended units
My first play through on this was beyond epic. It took awhile to beat down the Carthaginians. But when I did, it felt amazing.
Until I turned my attention to Gaul. Mother of God!! What a scare. I had no idea. They were fear inducing. They were like a green carpet across Europe. I even tried taking a sea route around them to work them from both sides. Nope. There too. What a campaign.
Interesting mod... Wonder if it would be the mod to use for a base game achievement run?!? Thoughts
Now we just need this map in Rome 2 or Attila.🤤🤤🤤
so its our remastered RTW 1 ? Wow!
That's my favorite for vanila
Can you please add mod list that you mention in your video. Thank you.
Can you add all the mods in your description :) Some of them seem to conflict...can't use 150 units + Standalone graphics mod together...
Does the 150 units + Vanilla Enhancement map work? Doesn't for me.
Just tested it out and Danymok's Extended Unit Roster is in conflict with the Vanilla Enhancement map and won't start a campaign as a result.
I somehow can't get over the new UI
Look at how those phalanx pikemen are attacking at 0:14 - that animation looks straight out of Rome 1, but the models and textures are all from Rome 2 - can anyone explain this pls? :)
the fantastic work of the RIS: Imperium Surrectum modders :)
@@AndysTake Aww cheers Andy! :))
Some textures are but most of it is homemade by the modders of RIS.
Dude there's a map mod for Shogun 2 with Europe, Middle East, North Africa and India, but in the 6 months since its release, nobody seems to have made a Rome or Medieval or Napoleon mod. What's happening?
i hope someone makes a mod that makes the ui looks like in rome 1
Wait wait what was this mod again?
Unpopular opinion, more provinces doesnt make it better
Yes even with my bronze age mod which has like 900 Provinces so far, that in no way makes in a good mod, if anything I should persevere to make it a good mod despite the provincial hurdle.
It does, when the problem ypu are trying to solve is "the map is too small".
I'm not saying that the rest of the mod isn't incredibly important for the enjoyment of the mod, but the increased map ABSOLUTELY makes the game better all by itself.
In OG rome any experienced player can conquer the whole map in a few hours. You barely have time to get really into it before its over.
So having a map where defeating Carthage or conquering Greece or Gaul are, by themselves, longer campaigns than taking the whole map in vanilla is absolutely an improvement.
Question in the Round:
Whats the big differences, why people prefer total war remastered over rome 2 nowadays ?
Conquer the world..
Does this work for Barbarian Invasion too?
Negative
I gotcha. Thanks!@@BestICanDoIs20
I loved, and hated this game because no matter how I tried to calm dissent my cities would always revolt at the worst possible times forcing me to divert troops away from battles, and thereby losing progress made as the enemy would suddenly appear with massive armies pulled from thin air I imagine. Gaul two cities left, then suddenly twenty armies are at my doorstep.. how? Even with scouts watching the borders, massive armies suddenly emerge from out of nowhere.. I think I managed to win win once, and conquered the Senate.
bro mentioned Vanilla Enhancement before Barbarian Empires cuz he hates the music so much 😭
Lmaaaaooooo
@@AndysTake I guess your the same guy who is the only downvote on my bronze age mod 😭
Hopefully not XD
@@rxbitvzzinbvztin8730 lol I’d never downvote a mod just because it didn’t cater specifically to my tastes no, it’s not me
I would pay moders to make a multiplayer campaign :/
again that music .... omg :(
does anyone else experience crashes frequently?
4tpy?
So how is TW rome remastered? Worth the 30 USD? Seems steep for such an old game.
Look up Roma Imperium Surrectum mod for Rome remastered. Like that? Buy it and install the mod.
Does it still have squalor deathspirals? Always makes me quit rome 1
That was fixed with a cap from the start by the Remaster.
@@rorschach1985ify sounds good, never played the remaster but thought about it
@@pyroparagon8945 It improves on things like AI and pathfinding but the best thing is the modding support and removal of limits. Just note since a lot of people complain about that the UI may be worse and might turn you off while I think there are some pros and cons but the overall package makes it worth it in the end.
Bro please make video on mod in rome 1 Mobile
Unfortunately, I don’t think you can mod Rome 1 mobile. I’d love to be be proven wrong; I use mods for Civ VI on my iPad, but I haven’t found anything that says you can use mods on TW on mobile.
Id like to love ROme again but its just objectively worse in every way compared to Medieval 2. If you much prefer the rome setting, thats fine, but in any other metric, its just worse and so much less complex. Especially if we compare it to stainless steel
Can you explain further to someone who loves modding RTW and lost interest in M2TW altogether? I’d like to know what I can do to make it more tempting to play
@@ahowl1136 i just use stainless steel mod. It keeps the identity the same but just improves it on all fronts
@@Felix-tp8chi have heard that its heavy and has a ton of bugs though. Have these been fixed or something? When I mean heavy, I mean like way different than vanilla M2TW
Does anyone else find Rome Remastered with tihs mod especially is that the animations are really clunky? like the fights and battles look really shit. Is that just me?
The only problem is no mercenaries
