Dennys in the US has a phenomenon I call the “good dennys, bad dennys” theory. Every US community has a dennys that is clean and the food tastes good, and one with stained carpets that smells like Pee and the food is godawful. And only the people that live there know which is which. If you’re traveling it’s kind of a roll of the dice.

      @OllamhDrab Před rokem +1

Yeah, it's true, ...the nearest one to where I lived for a number of years was truly frightening, but there was a far more excellent truck stop place even closer, so we would always just go there for our after-hours fooding. :) (If travelling to the US, oftentimes a non-chain place will prove to be a real treasure. Sadly, we lost a lot of great places to the chains being everywhere. When I was in Texas, though, most of the Dennys were pleasant enough, though for some baffling reason they didn't have real cream for coffee. I've heard the prices have become pretty ridiculous, though.

Dennys is probably my favorite FAMI-RESU in Japan. Yes, their desserts are a highlight. The major weak point, in my opinion, was their coffee. BUT they have recently started serving 7-11 coffee, which is actually great in Japan.

7-11 coffee is quite good in the US and not expensive. Starbucks gets Vietnamese coffee, which is the worst, actually the cheapest and worst on earth. In LA, we have Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, which isn't so large as Starbucks, but has higher-grade coffee.

As US teens in the 80s my friends and I lived in denny's from 8pm till 3-5am smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and when you were hungry a grand slam was only $1.99- 2 eggs 2 pancakes 2 sausage or bacon.
I'd never call their food nice or give it a 10/10 more like rations for the night.
US popeyes is my happy place!
I'm constantly surprised at how the presentation of food is ignored here often or that the person/kid making it thinks a half cup of mayo/mustard/oil dripping on to your lap out the back of your sammich is fine.

When I went to visit my future wife for the first time in Osaka, she took me to a Denny’s near where I was staying at Sakaihigashi station. As we were walking there, I was thinking that Denny’s was like home, and I was looking forward to it. When I saw their menu, however, it was completely different than the one I’m used to back home. It was actually a great experience, and since 2013, I now know that the Denny’s is much different, and even better in my opinion, than the one here at home. She misses the Japanese Denny’s.

Maybe I should go back to Denny's for lunch or dinner tonight because it's been more than 6 years since I've been in our local Denny's here in America. But someday I definitely want to try Japanese Denny's because they definitely focus on the presentation of the dish which I really appreciate. Because nothing is more disappointing than ordering something when it looks so perfect in the picture but the end result looks different and not as perfect.

The Japanese take their Western chain fast food-especially McDonald’s and KFC-so seriously that even before watching the video, I’m going to go with “Yes”. US Denny’s is not well respected, tends to be the punchline of “bad food” jokes, and most of its influence is due to it being everywhere at most highway shopping areas, and being open at all hours for travelers who need breakfast at strange hours, like truck drivers or drunks.

The first time we ate at Denny's in Japan was because it was early in the morning (early by Japan standards, before 8AM) and they were about the only place open. Most places in Japan only serve bread/rolls and coffee for breakfast. Now, we look for Denny's whenever we want a more Americanized (eggs and meat) breakfast. I love that you can get rice and miso soup with your breakfast!

On the one hand, that natto looks like something that will haunt my dreams. On the other, I quite like spicy chorizo burritos for breakfast. The kind that feels like a heart attack waiting to happen, and you may not enjoy that very much. Our differences make us better. As a side note, they SAY the chorizo (Mexican) is made out of pork, and it probably is, but you can't ever really be sure. I love taco wagons, and the first rule of eating at a taco wagon is to never question the ingredients origins.

I still miss tht grand slam deal I wish they had it here in Osaka. When I visited a mainland Denny's I was joansing for a Loco Moco but they didn't have it so I had to order everything separately. The egg and hamburger patty was easy but the rice was substituted with hash browns. The brown gravy had to be substituted with country white gravy. But the worst part was that they don't have fruit punch.

One difference I’ve noticed between Japan and America is that, for picture menus, Japanese try to make what is served to the customer look as close to the picture as possible, whereas American dishes are usually not going to look nearly as nice as the photos.

    Japanese Denny's has Japanese food.
American Denny's has American food. (mainly breakfast food)
I wish Japanese Denny's had more American food because the Japanese food doesn't stand out in Japan but an American breakfast definitely does.
It's the main reason I go out of my way to go to international breakfast restaurants in Japan.

The rule is you can have a little soy on sushi to bring out the taste but if the piece has something on it don't do anything as its seasoned already. The actual rule is just have a little soy but don't drown the piece of sushi as the soy will destroy the taste. If a sauce or seasoning is already on the piece do not put soy on there as its been seasoned already and you enjoy it as is. I got told off before for drowning sushi so i do a little dip to get a bit of salt on there.
